Does it matter who the Captain is?

The teamwork stat DOES make a difference. At the "change player" screen in formation settings, you can hit "Y" or triangle to show teamwork, and as you scroll through players, a number will pop up for each player on the field. The numbers tell you what teamwork stat the rest of the players will play to when the player highlighted is captain. The higher the teamwork of the player you choose to be captain, the higher the overall teamwork of the squad. Also, players of the same nationality as the captain receive an extra boost.

Now if it ain't great news! I thought it had something to do with teamwork as shown while changing players, but I just didn't quite believe it actually matters. Thanks for clearing that up!

Even if it does make a difference like u say, I can't see any. What does a greater teamwork stat from all the players actually give boost to?

Well, I played a few matches having the player with highest teamwork (this one checkable during substitutions) as the captain for my team (M'Bami) and all I have to say is I can see a great impact on the way my team is playing because of that. There are more accurate passes to feet, through balls don't end up 10 meters in front of the player, it is easier for AI controlled players to get to battle for an aerial ball, the defense is working together better... And all this just because of 10 more average teamwork on the substitutions screen...

PS. This M'Bami guy is such an invalueable asset to my team... I managed to catch him off-contract during the summer transfer window of the first season. His teamwork with my players varies from 75 to 80 (there are some exceptions on both sides though) plus he's deadly with free kicks, works great as a DMF and is a fine crosser. Wonderguy, the only backside is he's 26 during the first season - and it's not a real problem anyway.

Yep, passing, off-the-ball movement, and organization. Capping a player with teamwork in the high 80s to 90s can make an enormous difference.

If it does makes a difference, I've never noticed anything about that. Would be a cool touch though.

It would be cool if the Captain could had a clear influence on the team's playing style. Maybe if you have Riquelme has captain everyone revolves around him, making for a quick passing game.

Or if you have John Terry as captain your defensive players get more organized.

Maybe with Riquelme the team haves better "Team Work" -whereas- with John Terry the team would have better Defense.

Would be an interesting detail, actually makes sense if you think about it long enough.

As for the "Team Work" Stat.. it does makes a significant difference. But I think it's too elemental, it should be divided into many individual stats.

I definately notice a difference in my teams performance when I change my captain

Of course theres no hard proof of this, but I think its in there anyway

And eddy1892...very elegantly put!!

It kinda does make a difference. Try give it to someone one sided with a small teamwork rating and compare how when you give it to a player with Teamwork and Mentality. The latter a very underrated stat, it basically does what it says on the tin. Playing better when your team is losing. Some of the best keepers and defenders have this stat raised to the 90's.

I always appoint the captain to which player has the highest mentality+teamwork, and to whoever has been with the team for longest time. A mix of those (Real - Raúl, Liverpool - Gerrard, etc)

I like to choose my captain depending on a few factors.

-A new signing is never made captain for me. You gotta be known and loved within the club.
-Age doesn't really matter. I was actually made captain for Sampdoria on an older BAL save and that guy was 24 years old.
-I don't look at stats.
-Consistency is important though. I want my captain playing most games. Or more like, I want the person playing most or many games to be the captain. This is why Centre Backs usually get chosen.
-There's a pinch of personal like for the player in question. For instance, I really like Lassana Diarra and if I had him in a team, he could be the captain.

For the realism I also choose the one with the highest teamwork and mentality (perhaps condition) But if he's occasionnaly out (due to cards etc) sometimes i don't notice and some random substitute gets the armband, and it doesn't really affect the team. No notable difference in my opinion..
