Hello forumz, well the last time i played pro evo was back in 2005 and even then i never really got into it, ive been playing fifa 12 religiously for days now but thought i would buy pes to see what it has to offer, the main problem is im finding it very daunting and dont know where to start, i don't want to start my master league until ive got a grasp of the game but then again i don't want to play exhibition for practice as i would prefer watching paint dry. i keep finding myself starting a match on normal difficulty, score a couple of goals, then wonder what im supposed to be getting from it, professional difficulty is too big a leap for a noob but normal isnt that challenging, so im starting to think that the point of PES is too see who can score with the most swagger and style, thats not real football so i need to know where to begin, i also dont understand why the controls are so complex, in fifa 12 a 1-2 pass is (hold LB when making a pass) in PES its like learning a 16 button combo in tekken and i dont know why that is

well, tia

dude - keep searching the net - there is way too much to detail in a thread such as this.

Well done on making the transition fronm FIFA to PES, it's not the 'cool' thing to do! But believe me, PES12 is a beauty- She will blow your FIFA experiance out of the water once you beconme one with her!

go into training mode and try some different settings, pass assistance ect et used to the timing of one touch passes, the weight ect.

use the analogue sticks

http://www.pesgaming.com/showthread.php?t=88687 - understand this to shoot wonder shots!

its all a matter of time, practise ect.

Good luck - if any specific issuse are bothering you - feel free to PM me.

Mate "LB" is on xbox and is the shoulder button on the left side of the stick.
I play on ps3 and i hold L1 and press pass button and then the player runs in order to make a 1-2 pass, so that's really the same. However you can change the controls if you want, so don't really see the problem.

Play some cups/tournaments to get used to the game. Otherwise you can start on a certain difficulty in ML and change it after one season if it gets to easy.
Pes is always difficult to learn from players who switched from F**A, however the other way round seems insanely easy.

Hi mate. I played both Fifa and PES last year. At first, I found FIFA by far the superior game, but after a few months I really started to see what made PES so great. Though it is very difficult to tell you where to start and how this game is supposed to be played exactly, it is important you play it a lot. You will get frustrated for sure, most likely blaming the game, but you will find in PES you really make your own mistakes. (there are some stupid things that KONAMI should fix, but what game doesnt have some).

I guess it is important to play the game on a difficulty level where you lose more than you win, but where you dont get beaten 4-0 all the time. Also, go to Personal settings to link feints. I think this is a nice and underestimated feature of the game. 1-2's are quite easy imo. Just hold L1 when u pass, and the player who passed will run forward. Train shooting in practice mode. I found this the hardest to learn. At first, all shots from distance will go straight at the keeper. Just practice.

If you have more specific questions, I'll be glad to awnser them!

btw: online rocks. 2v2 might be fun to start with

-For shooting press the direction firmly AFTER you have powered up the shot, positioning is everything as is distance from the ball.

-Time standing tackles by positioning your defender with the analog, move your player towards the ball with the analog when timed correctly he should attempt a standing tackle or a challenge of some sort. Standing tackle is inconsistent this year and very tough.

-Close control with RT is your best friend as ever, when used with subtle movements of the analog you produce some excellent dribbling in tight spaces.

-When collecting a pass press RT and the direction you are going to control the ball more effectively.

- A good way to defend crosses is to select a CB with RS and use secondary pressure to try and block the cross.

Okay I've actually got something that will really help you. I played FIFA a lot when I was younger and then switched to PES 6 and fell in love. Remember PES is all about strategy and the game has no limits to its play which makes it so unique.

Even after playing it for years I could not figure out why I kept getting my ass beat by the computer. Regular mode is too easy after you figure it out and Pro mode is too hard at times. On top of that Im playing with a stacked team, like Barcelona, against a scrub team and I can't get a goal. Even worse I can't get a pass right, I can't dribble around any of their terrible players even with Messi and I can't mark a guy whose slower than a snail. The most annoying part is how CR7 gets run down and beat by a guy like Per Mertsacker. Complete BS and it almost made me quit playing the game.

So.... I stumbled upon something I haven't anyone suggest (maybe Im blind) and I finally figured out what the biggest difference FIFA and PES gameplay is... that is Game Speed. I had never messed with it before but if you are having a hard time beating the computer just simply go and change the game speed to -1 or even a -2 if needed. The difficulty level stays the same, the game interval stays the same, the player's abilities stay same BUT it is finally realistic.

It is at the expense of end-to-end action but what's the fun in that if Messi can't dribble thru any of Celta de Vigo's defenders?? All it does is slow the game down so that you can finally read it. Make a pass, put your defenders in position, take your time to make a nice dribble move and most importantly turns down the aggression of the computer so that you don't get the ball stolen every time you make a move. Again, it doesn't make anything less difficult it just turns down the response time of the computer. Hope this helps!

Heres the best tip its helped me loads , take it back and get Fifa

Maybe. You'll love FIFA for the first three games with it's animations, slick presentation, and Impact Engine(tm). You'll think it' the best game ever in fact. You'll start to wonder just what the hell PES is doing, and you'll start to convince yourself that this is THE football game we've all been waiting for! By game five that feeling will start to subside, as you start to see a pattern in CPU scoring. You'll start to see the CPU play like Barce whether it be Burton Albion or AC Milan. You'll see the CPU same moves over and over and over again. You'll see that that the CPU constantly tries to get you one on one at the corner of the 18 yard box to simply out reflex you as they score another tap in.

As the temperature in the room rises, you'll begin to see constant 45/80+ minute goals going in all over the place. You'll begin to analyse why this is so, watch some replays and see that the CPU is moving your players about all over the shop, leaving you with a less responsive defence than normal. You'll see that unless you spend a month altering the slider settings that simply by going up the levels it doesn't make the CPU smarter just more cheaty, and suddenly you'll begin to realise that animations and Sky Sports style presentation means very little. By game ten, you'll see the effects of not having inertia, momentum, you'll see constant scripted goals, you'll see opposition keepers saving 5 or 6 one on ones as they score the only shot of the game.

At the higher levels, the simply is no contests and no duels as the CPU is programmed to win all 50/50s. The aerial game simply isn't an option and so the game forces you play everything on the deck, all the time. You'll notice that the CPU defence defend intelligently and swarm your players whilst your players stand around holding their dicks leaving the slowest defender constantly one on one with the likes of Tevez and Walcott running at them. The contain button becomes useless. The CPU possession game is mere illusion.

By game twelve or so all the glitz and glam will have faded, the excellent injury system and presentation and animations will mean jack shit, as you realise that the game isn't a life-like thing, that the ball isn't an entity on its own that can literally bounce anywhere. And as the CPU, or you, score ANOTHER 45 minute/90 minute goal, you'll want to take the disc thing out of the drive, snap the fucking thing in two, and just to be sure, put it in the microwave, see the sparks fly, then toss it into a well of burning sulphuric acid or lava aka Terminator 2 style!

It's at this point, that you should try PES, and realise for all it's crappy animations, fundamentally and in gameplay terms, it is 100 times better than FIFA warts an all!

well, tia

It will only get worst bro....next they will tell you to download a patch to make the game work better...or point you to a thread where you go to learn how to shoot....

Have you ever "learned how to shoot" in Fifa? Well you have to in PES because the ball doesn't go where you intend to.

I would suggest reading through these forums and weigh the good against the bad.

I am probably the only person on this site that plays Fifa ...really play Fifa. Everyone here just hate the game and CLAIM they play it.

Judge for yourself ....but i can tell you this, no Fifa player has ever moved to PES. I am one of thousands of PES players that has moved to Fifa. ....and they frown on that badly here.

You can check out the Fifa vs PES thread and look at the ridiculous things they say happens in Fifa...

or just read what the guy above me says happens when anyone plays Fifa.

I will say this. Only blind people can't see past the obvious stupid faults that fifa 12 has. Only fanboys can't see the cracks that fifa has under it's gloss.
OH BTW, there's no need to turn this into a pes vs fifa thread. There is a specific thread about it.

Right now, I am in the middle, not with pes and neither with fifa. I don't have sides.

I am playing a much better game than those 2 called WWE 12. Truly awesome experience and it actually understands the concept of the "sport" that it tried to copy and became a really fun game to play with very realistic matches especially the endings.

I will say this about Fifa vs PES. Fifa is more fun to play, PES can get frustrating at times especially when you just want to kick the ball around and score goals. But the main reason I take PES over FIFA is that it's just more captivating to me to be able to edit and create squads with whatever players I want, especially classics, and try to replicate real games. If I could, I would combine FIFA with the freedom of PES

PES is defiantly a better game than FIFA, FIFA is all smoke and mirrors, style over substance, my problem is that the xbox version of PES 12 is much slicker and more realistic than the PS3 version which borders on the ridiculous sometimes and of course i have the PS3, but it's still a better game than FIFA, and has been for years in my opinion.

In terms of advice, start a regular one off league season on "pro" setting and just keep on playing until you feel comfortable with the game, don't be shy to train either and look up different skills and maneuvers online.

Been wondering about this, so you've played the PS3 version and X-Box, how do they differ?

Well, the xbox version seems to be very fluid in terms of player movements and the off the ball running is much more responsive and you can make the player come short then spin behind, you can make them make a run then check back which is a great way to create space around the box, on the ps3 the players only run in a straight line and there is still the classic PES problem of players just running into each other which has cost me a few goals on ps3 but it never happened on the xbox, i'm doing ok on professional on the ps3 but was top player on the xbox.
