I'm Pompey. My team is;

GK: David James/Dean Kiley/That young Nigerian lad you can get for 80k. (He'll replace t'other two next season)

RB: Johnson/Pamarot/Griffin. (Griffin is just spare, seeing as GJ is injured)
LB: Taylor/Bale.
CB: Campbell & Stefanović/Curtis Davies and Primus (They are the second choice paring)

DM: Davis/Hughes.
CM: Fernandes/Mendes.
LM: Kranjčar/Koroman.
RM: O'Neil/Thompson.

ST: Benjani & Darren Bent. Cole, Kanu and Lua Lua are all back up.

I think Europe or top half is possible.

Dan, just out of interest, what formation and tactics do you use? I’ve just started a season with Pompey and I have pretty much the same squad although I sold Kanu and brought in Brian McBride as well as Boa Morte.

I went to buy Ivica Olic and Sp*rs stole him off me at the last second (what made it even worse was the fact he scored the equaliser against me), whilst the exact same happened with Appiah. It just makes me hate Sp*rs even more.

My next targets will be Dario Srna from Shahktar as cover at right-back and Gareth Bale as I don’t have another left-back.

I’ll look to see Pamarot, Griffin and Thompson, provided I don’t get even more injuries.

Three games in so far and I’ve already got a shit load of injuries. James, Benjani, Mendes and Davis are all out.

My results so far are;
1-1 at Sp*rs
3-2 at home to Bolton (they went down to ten at 2-1 to me)
1-1 at Wigan (Matty Taylor got sent-off at 0-0)

Be careful when doing it though - players with different personalities may start hating each other. Had it with Pirlo and the best player in my youth side, both of whom are unsure of their future at the club now. Can't even force them to make up.

Oops :mellow: Thanks for the tip. And -Rafa- for telling me how to do it. I think I did check player interaction for the player I wanted to tutor someone, but not for the youngster. Or I totally missed it

Time to go see who I can sign this summer. I'm trying to get Mills and Per Nilsson. Aliadiere said he wouldn't come on loan ... bah, I need a striker :\



edit: This season I'm gonna try something that has worked for me in past CM/FM games, using a different formation for home and away games. Away I'll be using:

         ST
         AMC
RM                LM
      DM    DM
RB    CB    CB    LB
         GK

And at home I'll switch to:

         ST
      AMC   AMC
RM                LM
         DM
RB    CB    CB    LB
         GK

Has anyone tried using two formations in FM 2007, and had any success? In the tips it says changing tactics leads to disjointed performances and what not, but it's worked for me in the past

i was changing my formations around to match up against the competition in the my early days at Werder and we did terrible. Then I stuck with a 4-4-2 in every match and we've been successful.

I normally stick with the same formation, if I'm going into a hard match I'll change around my mentality, time wasting etc. but that's it.

Hmm, I'm thinking FM might not be 'intelligent' enough to realise that it is only two formations, instead only realising that I am changing tactics for each game, and therefore my performances will suffer. Perhaps I wont use the 'away' formation in every away game, only against tough opposition who play attacking formations.

I just wasn't able to sign a good enough striker, or two, with only 500k, to be able to play 4-4-2. Plus I needed to strengthen in other areas too. But I need some more attacking potency, hence the two AMCs, in which position I have quality in abundance. But still, many teams have a 'second' formation they are adept at using. I'll let you know how it goes.. if it doesn't work, I'll scrap it and stick with one

Well my PC monitor is playing up at the moment so I can't guarantee a screen shot tomorrow, but it's just your standard 4-4-2 with a target man up top (usually Benjani, who isn't the best header of the ball, but he's the best I've got for that position) and a defensive midfielder (Davis does his job well, but obviously you're gonna need someone better in the future) and creative midfielder in the center (Obviously Fernandes is your man here, just tweak his player instructions to suit him. I have him just sitting in the center with creative freedom as "much" and mentality as "normal" I have his forward runs and the like as "rarely").

I can't really explain that well, so I'll try to get a screen shot tomorrow. It's quite simple really, nothing too tactical. (You don't wana be going mad with your instructions with muppets like Lua Lua in your team.)

I'm thinking of selling Lua on mine as it happens, proper donkey.

There's still time for that. Noone wants to come on loan to me though, and all of my potential signings get pinched. Curse you Nowrich. They stole Chris Brown and Stephen Elliot :angry:

Started a new one, this time with Barca. Won all, except the CL, because Werder Bremen cheat on me in the Quarter-Finals, losing 3-1 away and winning 4-2 home. In the first match my team should score 2/3 goals more, but Wiese was inmense and save Bremen. Chelsea won the title, beating Madrid for 1-0 I think.
Anyway, was a very good season, except in the end, when I drew a lot of matches because Eto´o dont score goals.
About transfers, I sold Mota, Oleguer and Sylvinho and bought Poulsen, an excellent DMF who save me in a lot of matches.

Now, in my second season and made big big transfers:

IN - Thierry Henry (39M. I think first in Klose, who made an awesome season with Valencia, but was much more expensive than Henry, so I bought him, only because I have a lot of money to spend . Also, he has a very good rating in Arsenal)
Carlos Kameni (10.5M. Valdes was shit, so I decide to buy Kameni, who has a very good rating and is young)
Barzagli (22M, because Milan fuck me, but the man looks pretty good and I really need a very good CB in the air),
Pique (11M. My scout told me that he will be pretty good, so I bought him at backup),
Arouca (12.25M. A very good CMF, only 20 years, who looks a very good prospect and a very good backup with Iniesta for Deco and Xavi. He was in Fluminense).

OUT- Samuel Eto´o (32M. As he was a pure shit in the end of the season and I wanted a very good striker, I sold him to Milan. Chelsea offered 35M, but he reject the contract that Mourinho offered :laugh: )
Rafael Marquez (10M. Another shit. I sold him to Inter, because I want money to spend in better CB).
Javier Saviola (14M. To Arsenal)
Edmilson (1.5M, to Palermo)

And thats all, I think. In the mid season (of the last season) I bought Marcelo from Fluminense and sold Victor Valdes to Roma.

I think that with that team I can won the CL this year. If not, I am a shit manager

I still have 12.25M to spend, and I am serching a LB, because Gio will be 3 months injured. Someone knows a young LB who I can get for cheap, or for loan maybe?

The 3 already mentioned would all be good signings, but I always manage to sign Giorgio Chiellini from Juve for around £5m, and he's been fantastic.

Started a new one with Braga and finished second in the portuguese league, giving me an automatic place in the CL next year. I've 10M to spend and I need a keeper, a striker, a right back, an attacking midfielder and a right midfielder. Suggestions anyone?

I'm waiting for a patch to come out before starting a new game. I quite fancy using West Ham. I gave up on my QPR game after going 17 games unbeaten at the start of the season, winning 12 and drawing 5, and conceded less then 10 goals. In the next 17 games I won 6 drew 4 and lost 7, and conceded over 20. All of my players suddenly and inexplicably became a bunch of emo bastards. I was still top of the league, but I just stop enjoying it when FM goes like that.

Any news on when a patch will be out?

Though I think I may have already found a bug, I started a game with Villa (40m to spend) and when I bough Bent for 10m and Nolan for 12.5m it charged me 20m for Bent and 25m for Nolan.:realmad:

On my Corinthians game, my midfielder Magrao had a indirect free kick about 40 yards out, and he played it into the box looking for Nilmar, but Nilmar missed it and the ball didn't touch anyone and it went into the goal and it was payed:mellow:

My Milan team have suddenly lost their dominance. I never change my formation and am an advocate of "the game will pick up your formation during a winter or summer break and change how it targets you to stop the formation being effective thereby preventing any super formations from being created". Bastards.
