Football Manager 2008 [PC/Mac]

I've actually managed to get through a season on this one. It's not really stuck with me until now. I blasted through 3/4 in a couple of days and am just coming to the end of the season now. Having already been in the Uefa Cup I fell at the first hurdles of the FA Cup and League Cup (both on penalties). The league is going well, I'm third, a point ahead of Newcastle with two games left (Fulham and Everton).
The Uefa cup is going very well though. Having won in the first games, I faced a tough group including Valencia. I topped the group with a win on the last day.
Then came the knockout stages. Zenit - Gone. Schalke - Gone. Spurs - Gone. Shaktar - 2-2 away in the first leg.

2-2 at home in the second
2-2 after extra time.
I was dreading penalties.

:smug:

Only Valencia in the final then...

I'm pretty bad at football manager to be quite honest  And I have a question (hopefully you FM legends will know ):

Is there a way of training your players in specific area's like Stamina, Penalty Taking, etc?? Whenever my team are in a penalty shoot out, quite a few penalties are poorly taken/missed?

Make sure your Set Pieces training is at high level and also make sure that the penalty takers have good attributes on penalty taking.

Crazy, obvious exploit:

I just sold co-ownership of Henri Saivet to Juventus for £1.9 on a two-year agreement but with him staying at my club during that period and inserted a future fee of £20k. As soon as the deal went through, I bid £20k which Juventus were forced to accept and three days later have full ownership of him once again but having pocketed Juventus' cash.

You devious little hound. Just coming into my third updated Stoke season, last season was a nice mid-table finish. Having secured the permanant signings of José Sosa and Ever Banega after successful loan deals, I planned to make signings elsewhere.

Ryan Taylor and Giles Barnes have moved on for combined fees of £32.5m, both with sell-on clauses. Antonio Valencia has come in for a rather inflated £8.25m, and one scout picked up on Diego Buononatte after my target shifted after the ridiculous prices quoted for Renato Augusto. Loaning in Miralem Pjanic from Lyon also allowed for Lulinha to go out on-loan, likewise with signing Diego allowing for the unhappy Jem Karacan to spend a season in Spain with Levante.

Nicolas Anelka has come in as back-up on loan for five months, paying a small amount of his wages after Adriano opted for Sunderland on-loan as opposed to me on a permanant deal. Sadick Adams will probably be loaned out now. I'm trying to negotiate a right-back but proving fruitless after clubs want stupid money for Mark Wilson, Anthony Vanden Borre and Glen Johnson. Abdoulaye Faye and Andrew Davies are filling in at the moment.

Diego Lugano is another player to join, after agreeing a pre-contract deal to join from Fenerbahce. Samir Nasri was also close to making a sensational switch to the Potteries, only for Barcelona to nip in with an offer and for him join them after his Arsenal contract expired. Salvatore Foti is expected to sign on-loan to take a closer look at him after promising scouting reports.

Looking at bringing in a right-back then, potentially a left-back as Michael Ball isn't competition enough for Joe Mattock at the moment. A couple of loans and we're laughing, I think.

Original?

Sweey I noticed the opportunity to do that however Gennaro Gattuso my shiney new right back keeps rejecting the contracts from Juventus, Inter Milan, Roma and Fiorentina. Considering I'm managing Pescara I think the guy has mental problems.

I need to ditch Adriano fast. Got him on the cheap from Inter but Kiessling and Vantaggiato have done nothing wrong while next season (I'm in February) Paloschi, Balotelli and Saivet are all going to be too old for the under-20s. Though I can keep some of them in the under-20s squad, I'd rather not. Rotating those five strikers will be hard enough as it is (Saivet clearly the weakest).

I also have two midfielders too many but after trying to send Gobbi everywhere, he played a handful of games for me and was really impressive. Rosina, Giovinco, Montolivo, Martinez, Veloso, Marchisio, Hamsik, Guardado (who I want rid of), Milovanovic and Gobbi fight for four places in midfield :fplm:

:chanlaugh:

I don't understand why Juventus didn't match my £20k bid though...

My right-back issue was resolved with an £8.75m deadline day deal for Giourkas Seitiridis. Excellent. :smug:

Youngsters Wedderburn, Tuia and Faraoni all out to Shrewsbury on-loan too.

You can manage pretty much anyone you like, dude. All the major European, South American and Asian leagues are there.

But be warned, if you really get into, it will take over your life. It's crack in video game form.

I can't really ever get into it as it runs quite slow on my machine and just pisses me off. :crymore:

I have got into this again. I started to lose a bit of interest around May, but managing Jiangsu in the Chinese second division has gripped me a little bit.
