Our Best Buys in se Virginia made a huge mistake with ordering and have only two copies available over a 4,000 square mile area. I had locked up $19 in video game trade ins so didn't want to go anywhere else to buy, particularly with the $49.99 price.
I called the one store and reserved a copy to pick up tonight after the store I visited this afternoon didn't have it. Huge mistake on Best Buy's part. I wonder if it is a national problem or regional one.

The way you worded that makes me think $49.99 is a good price for a video game in the US? What is the usual retail price of games upon release then?
Over here, from the main retailer (GAME), they always tend to charge £39.99, but that's just because they're vastly overpriced and take advantage of unsuspecting family members who usually go in to buy for their young children.
Supermarkets tend to price more kindly, obviously upon the suspicion that once you're in the supermarket, you're likely to buy some other items for the sake of it. Some supermarkets here have been known to sell brand new games for as low as £25 on release purely to compete with other supermarkets.

We've always had it earlier in Europe than the US, sometimes by months!
I think it's about time they're given the benefit I guess. I'm not sure why mind, but it could just be something as simple as it being easier to negotiate a deal to ship large stock to North America earlier than it was to here.

the $49 price is legit - the problem was an instrumental error in ordering that seems company wide. The local store fellow thought there was a mistake by his regional manager but it seems more widespread. Target doesn't have it, WalMart doesn't at most locations, so Gamestop seems to be the only company in town. Good for them. Bad for Konami. First week sales, maybe first month sales in the U.S. will likely be bad with such low distribution.
I have heard 5 days to more than a week as an arrival date from Best Buy. I am glad I reserved by phone from a store yesterday because there are no more left at best buy in my broad area.
