That's a fair point but its all to do with personal preference and expectation. Also I know for me its a struggle to play more than 3 games in a row because my concentration is zapped by that point on top player. As daft as it sounds, I'm going to try playing it on +2 to see if I can combat the AI more effectively. It probably won't and I'll get thrashed but worth a shot nonetheless.
Sorry, can you confirm, are you also talking about the PC version being slower than console version of PES2012 or do you mean you just changed to a smaller screen...

I feel the passing gets stronger with an increase in speed so you will be playing pinball with passes boucning off the takers like bumpers.
But I'm not talking about the display.. because I play it on PC but using a 40 inches LCD. At my friends house we play it on a 32 inches LCD and PS3.
I don't know why, but that feeling that the game was to fast that I had there, it isn't happening anymore in my house. Maybe I've just got used to the speed, I don't know. I'll focus on that the next time I'll go to his home to play on PS3.

for 2 days I've been losing online on a constant basis, hasn't happened to me in PES since the old PS2 games when I first was learning how to play the game. Most of my losses were coming to Real Madrid, Barcelona, Argentina and the ususal super teams ppl abuse online, I was countering with Juventus, Italy, Man City and Milan so I also wasn't using slouch teams.
I was blaming the game speed, the new defensive system and then I jsut put the controller down and took a break. When I came back I made some changes. To begin with I changed my formation to a 4/2/3/1, using my 2 external mf as wingers to assist in attack making the formation transform to a 4/2/4 when attacking, my 2 DF would asisst the back giving me more players in the box (6) to clock the runners. I also set up my attack/defend sliders to being conservative and the backline further back..... In addition to all this when playing I decided not to pressure the ball in the opponents side of the field, I would practically welcome them to dribble into the heart of my defense, this created a big problem for them as they started making bad passes and finding very little space to go through with their dribbling. I changed my pass assist to ZERO... and put player movement way up.
The result?? 2 wins and 1 tie (2-0, 3-1, 0-0) All Juve vs Real or Barca .... I noticed also that if you play defense this way the game play is less frantic and seems to slow down and feel like a real sim. Can someone try this and give me their feed back?? It seems to have worked magic for me!!!

i do it with bayern munich and but gomez in cf, ribery on the left, robben on the right, 2 dmfs, 4 defenders as usual and i put things like compactness, covering and pressing to high and the marking is and feels way better and know since i am close to the player, whenever they do a killer through ball which would result in a one on one, i press slide tackle and win the ball stopping it from reaching any striker. the zonal defense is better dieci if you sort out the tactics in game plan and do a more defensive side

how do you set up your tactics in the game plan?? Do you have a high level of player support for attack? I find that if I put it below 10 my guys don't come up in attack and I get left with my CF stranded alone. What about compactness, defensive line and also attack style, you have it down the middle or wide? I find wide is very effective to strech out the defense. I used to have a much better handle on the tactics in older pes games with the arrow system.
i have it down offensive but more in the middle on 13 so i don't want to play all defensive as i don't only want to score from counter attacks. can't remember the other tactics from the top of my head buti know what you could do, go and check barcelona's strategy and put the same in your teams strategy as i did that in 2011 and it worked. now after yoyu copied the tactics just put higher compactness, and pressing or other defending tactics but leave the other tactics untouched as you want to play like barcelona but with better defending. This is bound to work - if it doesn't i'll be confused as it worked with pes 2011

Well I switched to +2 gamespeed and noticed despite the obvious daft nature of the game being played at a 100mph that not only did my players react quicker I actually won my first match on top player. Ok so beating Rangers 2-0 with Bayern might not seem much for most of you - and both goals were deflected - but for me I can now no longer use 0 game speed. I played two games with Inter and drew 1-1 against rangers on Top player on +2. Switched to 0 and lost 3-0. It was very odd. I've tinkered with the settings as well and now have a formation and system I'm happy with and +2 is all the way forward for me.
This game is ALL OVER THE PLACE.
In the demo's I was happy with gamespeed -1. Then when the retail game cam out I was happy at gamespeed 0 results wise, but it didn't feel realistic. So I cranked it down to -2 and whilst the game played better I couldn't score, this is on PS3.
Then played it on the PC and the game seemed different again. Normal gamespeed weas slow and deliberate, and the game played like a full on simulation. But not sluggish, just realistic slow, but with the correct speed bursts etc for countering etc.
So
1) I think the PC Version is somehow much, much better than the PS3. There seems to be more build up play from the oppo.
2) When I go back to the PS3 game everything seems 1000mph hyper. Literally too responsive, and just players like crazy.
3) Previously on gamespeed 0 on PS3 I could win but the game was farcical Benny Hill, but couldn't win on -2 on PS3 very much
4) On PC, everything seems fine. Right pace, and winning, and realistic!!!!!
BINGO - I think I've found my platform.
Make of it what you will, but the gamespeeds are all over the shop, I guess it depends on how each individual plays the game.
Another thing, and this is on Top Player I've changed my formation and it seems to be having the required effect of slowing down the stupid CPU constant countering etc

Play with counter attack setting default, but play a slowish build up play. I'm also playing with no assistance and am deliberating EVERY ball, if it's not on or marginal then generally I play a safer option. Because of this I have to play 15 mins games, Top Player, but may have to crank it up to 20 minute games. I think the only way you can win on Top Player continuously is to play a longer game and to not give away cheap possession. To win I generally have 60% of the game. I am concentrating on every pass the CPU makes and am positioning holding players in front of their attackers near enough at all times. This seems to be working on the PC - I haven't lost in 5, winning three and drawing two. The results were something like 1-1 (H), 1-0 (H), 0-2 (A), 0-0 (H), 0-1 (A).
SO, fingers crossed I'm enjoying it fully on the PC with these settings, formations and normal gamespeed.
PS please note the formation comes out wonky above when I post, Suarez is central, the two players are either side behind him the CMF is central, the two dmfs are central above the two CBs, and the rest is flat back four.

The list can go on...for PS3.
Players movement is also messed up. on -2, they are like skating on ice or something. you can't build up as you want. ball bounces like crazy. player impacts are hilarious...
Broken is the word, unfortunately.
Patch is URGENT or else the game is unplayable for guys like me.

I think the real issue is player reaction times is inextricably linked with the game speed, well it certainly seems that way when I use the various speed settings.
That's why I use +2. It sounds mad I know but I actually find it easier to play even though its mind boggling fast.

^ YOU have no problem....
You can't go around and judge people like that. It is a preference rather than a must....Some people like me, wanna play an slow real-life game with no sloppy feet. Some people like you wants to just play it the "ping-pong" way which is fine by me.

Well I've been playing few games online(PS3) using Long ball camera with 1 level zoom out on Adjust screen option since I find wide camera unbearable and Pitchside and Broadcast camera not very practically viable for scoring goals.
I've played about 40 games online I think and this are my impressions based on the games I've played so far.
- I don't really know what Speed you guys are talking about in the other thread as I personally feel players move slower and less smoother than they did in Demo 2.in Demo 2 you could easily use the speed of the player to cut in/out after faking a kick or just use the pace of the players to go past opponent but in retail version thats difficult to pull off every other minute.
-I usually play with Real Madrid because thats the club I support and initially I played with possession style of play like I did for most of the teams in demo 2(which worked out very well) but not in this case.The opponents were dominating the possession in my own half somehow the they'd win back the ball irrationaly.(possession style of play works perfectly for me in offline single player mode at top player)
-I switched to standard style of play with attacking like to 11 or 12 instead of default 10.Much better I actually started to enjoy the speed of the built up and passing was smoother than before.
- I know that me playing on Ball camera will always be a disadvantage for players playing with default wide camera as they have a wider view of the pitch and hence their one side step while dribbling might be easier than the effort I have to make to go past a player.but sometimes it gets too difficult in middle of the park.Its like a war between CMS and DMs who constantly lose the ball cheaply and fail to gain control of the ball.I thought of it as realistic gameplay at first but it usually happens in middle of the pitch and it happens a lot.It is giving me a left sore thumb :|
-The tactical defending aspect is quite new and I am yet to master it but slowing down the speed of players and further taking off the uniqueness of players like Ronaldo,Messi(they can't take on 2 defenders everytime easily anymore) is bit difficult to geting used to and slows down the built up process even further.
-In all this matches I've played I haven't played a single player for any team or for mine who is dominating the match.no influential players not even Messi or Ronaldo.Thats bad actually speaking.
-I think technically this PES is lot lot different than any other PES as you need to really keep a cool head while defending.You might lose the ball while attacking but you can't afford to get frustrated and start to tackle around or apply pressure on attackers(Because of tactical defending doesn't work) but rather need to get back to thinking defence and regain possession so you can get back to rebuilding your attack from scratch.

I've just been experimenting with the speed settings, +2 was just daft like Pac-man on speed so I switched to -2. Christ almighty, it was so slow and the animation was dire. I did see one of the most ridiculous animations though on a PES game. Thomas Muller went to clear the ball with his left foot but somehow hit the ball into his standing right foot. The ball launched into the air like a rocket. It was absolutely mental.

There really is some shit animations this year when you watch some moves with the replay.
