Gamespot review - 6.5/10

Something that nobody cares to mention about FIFA is that every 1-1 situation results in a goal so long as you have the ability to press a shoulder button and hold the shoot button time for the right amount of time.

Apart from that I go with Shaun7s assessment. Until I discovered the 1-1 thing with FIFA10, I was quite enjoying the game but in a very different way that I enjoyed PES. FIFA gave a lot of satisfaction in all the way's that Shaun7 mentions but never had me creaming my pants the same way that PES does. so yes, FIFA has so many technical advantages over PES but that doens't mean PES should be judged by its failure to live up these technical specs as 'it approaches things a very different way from FIFA' and does other things arguably so much better than FIFA does. There are even magazines that gave FIFA 90%, PES 70% that go on to say that PES is a lot more FUN than FIFA is, i mean wtf?

But as I said, all FIFA's technical advantages over PES are immaterial. Any game with such Lame sure-fired scoring methods aint even a game, its a pile of shite that deserves to be chucked in the bin. This brings me neatly to another point about the two games. Despite some horrible bugs, PES2010s AI is fantastically well-implemented and well-balanced especially when compared to FIFA AI. When first playing PES2010 on Top Player, the games for me n my bros, were all very stale and the gameplay seemed bland, robotic and antiquated in comparison to FIFA whose AI manipulated end-end thrillers into being practically everytime we played with super realistic collisions and player movement as standard. As time passed though, we started to see through FIFA's AI which is more scripted than PES ever has been and our games on ProEvo really started to come alive. Of course, this is a quality parameter that will come to the fore only after many hours of gameplay and by then the reviews have already been written and the 'gratuities' from EA have already been received by all the main publishers.

FIFA10 = Pish game. Reviewers = Arselickingcocksucking bonus-grabbing bandits. I trust not a single one of them.

P.S. And no comments about 'learning to defend better' or on FIFA '1-1's should be goals every time so its just realistic'. In FIFA 1-1s just occur out of knowhere and the they happen all the fucking time.

put the controls on manual or semi on fifa and this does not happen

I saw a review of an ealier PES on TV once. The guy reviewing PES didn't like it "Cause the buttons are different than with FIFA" /facepalm.

When you review you have to compare to similar games.

Don't write a long post about it, there's no argument over it. How was that not apparent from my post? It doesn't matter if you don't like it, that's the way the world of reviewing works.

By your logic, any two games simulating the same sport shouldn't be compared because they're both going to be different approaches. Can't you see how ridiculous that sounds?

I wonder when reviewing became so damn popular in the first place, it's one mans opinion and we all know taste differs even among identical twins.

When reviewing a game you should go at it with a neutral point of view, write your thoughts and then compare elements to other games only if NESCESSARY.
To compare you need a standard, if any footy game should be "the standard" I would like to mention PES5, wich is KONAMI's best game so far in it's timeline.
I've seen so many times that complex games gets hammered by reviews and compared to lite versions of the same game that gets praise, many game reviewers don't even make an effort to explore the games they are working with.

In this case I don't really disagree with PES getting 6.5 or 70% reviews, but it annoys me that FIFA are considered equal. Entertainmentwise they are equal, no doubt about it, but depthwise FIFA crushes PES on the league / cup details, while the gameplay is vice versa.
I own both FIFA 10 and PES 2010 for XBOX360, have both games also installed on PC (i've tried both games extensively in other words) and there's no denying that PES is a more complex game than FIFA. That almost always turns out negative on a review because the reviewer rush through so many games at a short amount of time. And also because they are certainly biased while writing the review, in other words WORTHLESS to the majority.

Some of you are simply playing fifa on assisted or semi assisted that much is abundantly clear.

And anyway it doesnt matter if theres less one on ones in Pes, because you dont need them, you just hit your shot from 40 yards instead and it goes in mostly.

You reap what you sow, and im all for opinion but i cant help but think some of you guys are getting what you deserve, now and in the future because this aint next gen stuff, no siree bob!

Its garbage, pure and simple. Its last years with a graphical gloss and a few tweaks, and last years needed a massive overhaul.

Fifa on manula plays like a dream. The game isnt perfect by any means but it plays really well, it lets me do what i want when i want. its doesnt force me down a certain route just to appease its creaking programming.

Brand loyalty does no one no favours. Konami will be rubbing there hands, minimal effort + maximum profit!

try playing PES with a lesser known club, then you would know what I am talking about.
Low technique force you to consider carefully each move and the next all the time by using "Special controls" to control even the easiest passes etc.
The somewhat quirky formations system actually allows for neatly designed attack plans aswell, that can differ alot from one team to another etc.
PES is much more complex than FIFA this year too, semi assisted FIFA or not, doesen't matter.

Also take note that I did not slam FIFA into the gutter with my opinions, and I am far from biased when it comes to KONAMI vs EA either.
PES might be less "free roaming" than the glory days, FIFA might be more "free roaming" than before but PES is still more complex.
Also note that PES2010 is nothing but a decent release from KONAMI while FIFA10 is the best FIFA game in history.

Both games are below what you can expect in 2009 in my opinion.
