I Was Wrong- The Goalkeepers Are Better Now!

(Edit: This posting is related to TOP PLAYER mode.)

I increased the goalkeeping attribute levels to '99', along with speed, defensive prowess... and anything else applicable to goalkeeping. I might as well not have a goalkeeper, same for the CPU teams- this is on 'Top Player' and 'Regular'... (Deleted my rant)

After re-installing/re-applying the latest patch only...

Edit (Dec. 22nd):

Full manual/Top Player

Well, after playing the game extensively (ML)- I have to say that Konami HAVE improved the goalkeeping, and I'm really enjoying the game now. I've had a few 0-0 gmes this season (still fairly early on in the season).

PES6 was the last PES with really challenging goalkeepers. Have a try with PES2013 and you'll this year's aren't so bad (correction: these year's are bad, but there's much worse).

PES 3 to 6 were great (PC)- PES 5 being my personal favourite. The good old days! I loved playing the Master League- it was fair, the goalkeepers worked; and when you scored a goal, it felt like a great achievement. Konami used to take great pride in PES, they don't seem to give a f*** any more!

It all turned to sh*t with the release of PES 2008 (PS3).

I'm beginning to think that offline football gaming is pretty much DEAD.

I don't see how anyone can play regular or top player difficultly and enjoy it. It's easy, and supposed to be. Superstar is the way to go, challenging and when you win it's rewarding. With the new update they have changed it and made it harder, the man marking they did works beautifully from the AI side. As for the goalkeepers that def have been improved, they will make a lot of awesome saves, and the score usually goes 3 max in superstar and I for once lose matches. Moreover, for the goalies maybe because I improved the goalkeeping overall rate before update, which after the update, it made it even better. Try to increase the overall score for all the goalies you think are good. I have Neur as 94, Buffon 93, Cech 91, Courtois 91, and so on. Just increase the new goalkeeping system rates and increase the jump (between 85-90) depending on how good you think the keeper is.

It seems to be a trend. All the top games are now total garbage and are not delivering for fans on next gen consoles.

Not just Konami and EA with Soccer games; as well Call of Duty, heck even Halo is going down the drain? Watch Dogs was so hyped and oh so disappointment and other games, just not delivering on next gen systems.

The only game that I can truly say is spot on, is 2K Sports with NBA 2K. I haven't played Madden in years, so I can't comment on them.

But you get my drift.

I play ML on Top Player and the opposition goalkeepers make all kinds of saves. Yes they do muck up when Hulk hits a knuckle shot with his 96 kicking power, but that is to be expected. This update has improved the goalkeepers quite a bit. Now even when I play against a team with Team Spirit of 51 goalkeepers make saves. Now when I have to score I have to shoot from within the box as shooting from outside they always make a save. Oh and now my keepers also make saves, they are not always dead and buried they do rescue me from time to time.

I'm still playing last year's Madden and NBA 2K- I totally agree that gaining has gone right down hill- all hype and precious little substance!

Admittedly, I do see some saves but the CPU scores the same low shots, over and over again! It's really disappointing when it happens, there appears to be hardly any variance in how the CPU scores, and it seems to be so scripted...

I've been getting really low scoring games on top player with 20 minute halves.
Even got a couple clean sheets.

I want to enjoy the game, I'll stick with it for now. I haven't got around to altering the attributes of the outfield players- it took long enough (about an hour) increasing the goalkeeper stats to maximum.

I'm glad you're enjoying the game, don't get me wrong.

20 minute halves? Damn! L M A O. No way! 10 minutes is fine enough for me.

I started a new ML after the 1.04 patch update, with Inter Milan playing on Superstar and I've drawn my first four league matches only scoring 1 goal. So three 0-0 draws and one 1-1 draw.

GK's are definitely better since the patch! Pulling off some ridiculous saves or I keep missing constant point blank chances or hit them straight at the GK or AI just gets bodies behind the ball and magically blocks everything.

Struggling a bit but hope I can start scoring some goals some how.

But I must admit, the game plays a lot better since the patch compared to the old version, where I was getting kicked down / hacked down nonstop all game long (against better teams) and of course no fouls was blown in the old patch.

I think people may be experiencing Post-Patch Placebo (PPP)-if you read the thread: "It seems Patch 1.04 fixed eveything" (sic) , on the pesfan forum, you'll find postings where people swear that the 'keepers are just as bad as they have ever been.

Play on Superstar level the keepers improve drastically from the lower levels.

'Superstar' still allows those low shots to go in easily, by which the CPU scores some really cheap goals. It does help a bit, you're right, but those cheap CPU goals need to be eliminated from the game. It seems that at least 90% of the CPU goals come from low shots- my 'keeper leaps like a flyin' potato, and it's yet another goal!

'Top Player' is still a goal-fest (both ends of the pitch).

LMAO at Flying Potato:laugh:

No goal fest at all on my end since the patch release. Playing on superstar in a new ML and it's been all scoreless or 1-1 draws for me.

But you are so correct about AI's cheap goals. Sick of it! Especially the damn 50-70 super accurate long balls and ridiculous control / one touch by the AI as well, between multiple defenders. Ridiculous!

Try blocking those low shots if you let the computer have clean shots at your goal they will score just like in real football matches funny that...

There's a goalkeeper standing between the goalposts, just like in real life, funny that, eh?

The difference is... it's a video game and it's programmed to let the ball go in... funny that, eh?

Yeah, I've discovered that 'Superstar' isn't a goal-fest (hasn't been so far); the cheap CPU goals really spoil the game, it's like there's no point in having a goalkeeper when the CPU teams fires one of those low shots.

Some people just don't watch real football. Low shots lol. If you're expecting the AI to not make chances and you just want to control the whole game then plz play another game. Goalies aren't excellent in real life, in fact they do stupid mistakes, they don't catch every shot and obviously aren't perfect, so if anything the goalies currently is just as realistic. Stop complaining. They finally did something right and people still cry over it, every little detail lol.

I tried a game on Superstar tonight and the COM team just ping ponged the ball around at warp speed. Really not realistic at all.
I find that with focus you can defend well on top player but if you make a stupid mistake and give an attacker open space around the box you'll almost always pay dearly. Which... is how it should be.

Also I can play 20 min half's and still average 12 to 15 shots on goal cause I play as Arsenal, pass around a lot and probe for that split second opening weakness.
