Hmm tough choice - I think I would say GTA3. I know the latest two have so many more options, but this game had the initial 'wow' factor and set the standard in games to come.

It's got to be Vice City. The map was very easy to get used to and some of the missions were brilliant. Also the music on the radio was exceptional, the best Game Console Soundtrack ever.

I also liked GTA3, the cars were amazing. Although San Andreas is a great game, too much hype and i never really enjoyed playing it.

Very hard, gta 1,2 and london weren't that good in my opinion. As Tom Pain said, gta 3 was the first "wow" gta. Gta vice city was a improvement of gta 3 and San andeas was an improvement of vice city. San andreas is the best game in my opinion, so my vote goes to this game.

Favorite character? Hmmm.....the silent guy was a total bad-ass, Vercetti was kinda cool and CJ is crap - that 'homie' talk suits the game but annoyed me.

Silent guy from GTA3.

Never saw anything of GTA3 until i bought it. It was a jawdropping experience when seeing it for the first time. Drool was dripping all over the controller and the bench, i was probably wetting my pants (thats what eyewitnesses say) :)
Never got that experience again with the follow-ups, although they are amazing games, an as tom_pain says, GTA3 really set the standard for lots of other games.
One of the landmarks in gaming history, and thats why my vote goes to GTA #3.

Open the picture in paint, go on 'Save As' and choose the appropriate file-type in the drop down box (possibly .JPEG).

My favorite main character was the silent guy from GTA3.
Rockstar makes brilliant sidecharacters, like Rosenberg who is always stressed out when you meet him. I can remember brilliant humorous conversations between the main character and some side characters, like Wu Zi Mu.

Wu-zi-mu cracked me up when he stands there with burning cars and people in front of him, and says "What's wrong? What is it?"

or when he gets in a gang shootout and starts running into walls or trys to drive a car when he obviously can't see the road.

My fave mission was on Vice City - 'G-Spotlight'. Cool and original - and when he was in the lift with the people that was pretty funny. :D

Bomb Da Base in GTA III, where Eightball goes into this ship and you have to clear his path by snipering. My hands where all sweaty, and when i finally managed to do it, i almost killed my cat by throwing the controller in the air, it landed just centimetres
from its head :)
Black Project by The Truth in GTA SA, pretty innovative seeing earlier missions.
I hated Zero's missions, with those nasty Red Baron's.
