Guys, I am terrible with the ball in this game. My opponents can dribble around my players with the likes of Messi and Torres and such. However, I can barely pass average defenders with C.Ronaldo. I do not know how to properly dribble; all I use is R2(RT) and I get no where, any tips?

Also
1) what do you guys use for First touch?
2) how exactly and when do you use boost/burst speed?

thanks a lot

I am not a dribbling expert (still learning the game) and I had the same problem with burst speed on the first days playing PES 2012.

Then I found a very nice video on YouTube that was very useful (at least for me).

I did not make the videos. All credits for Winning Eleven Singapore (the owner of the channel where the videos were posted).

Good find mate.

When you get the ball, run. Pick a direction where there are no defenders standing. Preferably this will head you toward the opponent's goal, but if not, try to get headed that way eventually. Keep running. Now, when you approach a defender, try to not run straight into him, but (and here's the tricky part) turn just before you get to him in a different direction. Now keep running. Do some step overs so that it looks like you know what you're doing. Then, just to mess with them, stop entirely. Wait for them to blow by. Then turn in a different direction and keep running. Stop, then run again. Continue as necessary until you shoot and score.

Dribble into open spaces whereby there are lesser or no defenders at all , pass the ball often , play one-twos and u'll definitely improve once u get used to the physics of the game :)

Use Special Controls button to slow your pace down to a minimum, then either use a feint or just choose one side to go past a defender and release the Special Controls button at the same instant that you press your Sprint button.

There are more intricate ways to dribble, but this one proves effective to me, coupled with complete halts. Stop dead every once in a while and use a Matthews feint as you start running again.

Wow! I can sense that there is such an exorbitant amount of potential in your post... if only I could understand it(note: 100% not your fault, it is my lack of understanding basic terminologies). But thanks a lot... after some googling on some terms, Ill come back and read your post and head to training.

Also sabatasso, what do you generally do when your in the penalty area with your striker and have a couple of defenders on you; how do you create space in such a tight area to find a shot? thanks a lot again

Also, how do you go a good first touch and burst into a direction as soon as you touch the ball?

again... thanks.. i really appreciate and try to incorporate your advise into my game

If you can get your hands on a piggyback interactive guide it may help you too. Also, in training try all the moves listed in the moves list (if they still have it). That's the best way to learn how to pull offtricks. Tricks though aren't necessarily the most effecitve way to dribble, but they look cool and when you pull one off it's great.

R2/RT and a forward style direction as the ball arrives at your feet will knock it on, practice with it though pal.

Try out dribbling in the training challenge course too, work on it until you can achieve gold (though the third one on gold is impossible! Well for me anyway :p)

Online, dribbling is easier than it is against offline AI, as many online rush in, so you only really need to use the left stick and sometimes R2/RT. Offline is just a matter of lots of practice. I'm not the best at dribbling, though that's often been the case in Pro if I'm being honest, that's always been one of my weaker points, though I'm getting better in this years game. Practice makes perfect mate, training against the AI on a lower difficulty at first to begin to master it, then step it up a little.

Good luck man.

does anyone else feel like there is a problem with the short knock while sprinting in PS3 - when I double tap R1 while sprinting I rarely can get a short knock out of it. Very frustrating. In Pes2011 I had no problem.

dribbling is actually pretty good in this game and resembles real life pretty good, all you need is understand the fundamentals of dribbling.
If you don't play real soccer then watch Messi/Iniesta etc and what they do to get past players.

OP mentioned it, but no one else has, so I will: use the speed burst (R1 + R2, plus left analog controls, depending on whether you're stationary or moving) liberally, ESPECIALLY with your wingers. Also, player momentum seems to factor in more heavily than in years past, so try everything you can to get your opponent moving in the wrong direction.

And, of course, first touch is everything.
