It all depends on where abouts the free-kick is on the pitch.
35-43m is possible to score as there is a cheeky way around this. The trick is to get someone to lay you off, if you don't know how to do that then Pause the game and search for the instructions on the Menu. But once your in position and happy with the taker then lay your striker off and hit the ball with about 'three-quarter' power using :square:. Sometimes it depends on the free-kick takers stats and what not but what I've explained should work fine with most. This technique probably works 50% of the time, so give it a couple of tries and you should be happy.
34-29m can be scored too, but now its more difficult for this one. Being within shooting range individually and not needing a player to lay you off your accuracy must be near perfect as well as power and luck. The key for free-kicks around this distance out is holding the 'Up' arrow on the pad when shooting as well as the way you want to curl it. So for example you will most likely be holding the arrows in a sort of 'diagnol' direction, in between up and the way you like to apply curl. Now using :square: this far out is tricky meaning these free-kicks only work something like 20% of the time but thats still not bad. You want to hold :square: till it reaches the 'half-way' point or maybe a bit beyond depending on the metre distance the free-kick is. Often the 'half-way' mark or just above works fine, they sometimes hit the wall but sometimes go over it. Quite a bit is down to luck of one or two people in the wall not jumping etc.
28-24m is similar to the one above in terms of difficulty. However all you press for this distanced free-kick is :square: and the direction you desire the curl. No diagnols or anything, just :square: and the side direction of curl. If possible with all your free-kicks try your best to aim them in between the wall and their players heads. Like above these should work maybe 15-20% of the time which again isn't too bad.
23-18m is usually a free-kick on the edge of the box which seems difficult to get it over the wall and down but trust me its quite easy. Simply aim to the direction of the corner over the wall like all other free-kicks. The main key to this distanced free-kick is to hold :R2: as this helps loop the shot up and down. What I tend to do is always use inside curl too, whilst holding the 'down' arrow. So for this you'll be holding :R2: as well as a 'diagnol-down' direction, this should give the free-kick enough loop to score or at least test the keeper most of the time. For :square: this time you should try and get it just less than 'half-way' as this often achieves the best results. this type of free-kick usually works about 45-50% of the time meaning you'll pick it up soon.
As an addition to the advice above, I find that the best style free-kick is the one given to Joe Cole. The reason I say the players name is because I have forgotten what number of free-kick style it is. Although it shouldn't be much hassle.
Well I hope you've noted this, maybe printed it off to save yourself time maybe ? Whatever you do I'm glad to help, hopefully you'll be banging all sorts of free-kicks in within the next few days or weeks after this.
