press L1 or whatever the equivalent is (basically the button to do chip shots, throughballs etc) and then use the right analog stick

Make the players hug the touchline when you position them on the tactics screen and then put the support range higher so they are more spread out when you have the ball, stops players coming in close to receive the ball.

EDIT: Making your defense less compact can also help as you'll naturally be wide when you win the ball back.

Also, your width can also be affect by what sort of player you have on the wings, if you are playing as Real Madrid for example, I'm pretty certain both Ronaldo and Bale have Incisive Run, meaning both players will naturally come inside looking for a goal rather then staying out wide. If this is the case, try turning player support down also as they will retain the shape of the team more.

Very insightful!

So if i wanted to play a 3-5-2 with wing backs, how would I go about getting the wingbacks to attack a lot?

Well I've set the support range high and the wingbacks just keep pushing into cm. Seems a bit strange.

I'll have a go and let you know

EDIT: Make your right and left back as high up the pitch and as wide as you can make them.

Set player support to low, so anything below 6. (players stay in shape)
Set Support Range to high, anything above 14 (players don't come close)
Set position switch to low (Fullbacks won't take up cm's place if he runs foward)
Set defensive line to high (So they start further up the pitch)
Set defensive compactness to low (So they stay wide even in defensive situations)
Set shifting to attack high (So your players go from attack to defence quicker)
Set Attack/defence levels to high (makes them more likely to take up attacking position)

Just done this with 3 cb's, lb, rb, dm, 2 cm's, 2 fw's ... as soon as the ball goes into a cm, them full backs will fly down the wing (obviously works better if they have the attacking fullback card)

Above and beyond, mate, thanks. I'll give it a try and see how I get on.

Might push the fullbacks up a bit higher so they're very deep right and left midfielders.

was just about to say, you can also do that, but remember to set att/def lower, as they will keep going foward and forget about defensive duties.

Just tried it and I think they fill in a little more in the cm positions, so I switched them back to fullbacks and it seems to give me a bit more width again.

And why on earth can't we just have wingbacks? Fucking ridiculous.

yea, the cm's seem to spread out a bit then the fullbacks run past them down the wing when your in an advanced position, definately works better with fullbacks

You would have thought they would have invented this in the game by now, they have wing forwards for crying out loud... lol

.How do you make a player more responsive, when you pass the ball he would just walk and the opponenet would run past him and take the ball off him.
.How do you take the ball off from an oppnent my defenders would just stand next to them but not try to snatch the ball.
.Is it possible to perform dribbling with d-pad?

I use the d-pad and you can perform tricks with it, it's just hard to pull tricks off like you're doing special moves on Street Fighter. It's ridiculous tbh and I really hope it gets changed in the next version.

Wingbacks don't work. It's probably why there is no option to select the position as the AI is too stupid to fulfill it and KONAMI knew this. It doesn't matter if the wingbacks have forward runs because if there is space to bomb into using the most basic of football tactics, half the time they just wont do it and you have to force them with L1 and all that bollox, and even then they fail to hug the touchline properly.

The more I learn about this game the more I'm hating it.
