Yeah Konami messed up once again :fplm:

It surprises me the bunch of people on this site that goes on how bad FIFA09 is, and the comments they make clearly indicate that they didn't even play one match. Anybody that gave FIFA09 a objective decent run through will know that it's one hell of a game.

At least EA is listening to their fans, FFS...did all of you that keeps on defending PES09 and dishing FIFA09 even remember half the promises Seabass made after the piece of shit known as PES08. A complete overhaul, with stunning graphical enhancements etc. etc. Complete overhaul? NO Stunning graphical enhancements? NO...fuck they can't even add decent atmosphere...how difficult can it be to add decent crowd noise. And I can write a better script for the commentators.

WTF?

What did Konami do the last year? Minor graphical update, sorted out some of the lag, 5 new stadiums....sigh :fplm: FIFA has 15 new stadiums. Look at the major improvement FIFA has undergone the last year, and compare the amount of work to that of Konami's the last year...scary ain't it. Konami didn't even have the decency to add one extra league, instead they lost licenses, got a absolute uselless CL license which they totally screwed up. I played the CL through twice, and doubt if I will ever again. Konami didnt' even add extra stats, and don't say yeah they added BAL mode, it was already in previous winning eleven games, so they basically just added it and polished it a bit. I'm a diehard PES fan since PS1 days, but fuck, I'm not going to spend my money on a minor upgrade each year. Konami better pull out the stops next year, but let me guess...they will dissapoint once again. Even Seabass said he would like to have FIFA09's game engine..WTF? In that it's clear where his attention is at, and he basically admits that FIFA is ahead of them. Konami promised a new game engine next year...hahahaha...can't wait to see how they mess that up. They will probably incorporate teamvision that actually exists and call it their next gen game engine. I'm going to flush my PES09 down the toilet, it's fifa for me this year.

I have to agree on some of the points R9NALD9 raised on the flaws of PES 2009.

The truth is Konami have put in another lazy effort, It's not a bad game. I for one still find scoring goals and creating chances with great football very satisfying. But in all honesty we should expect more from PES but sadly we are not getting it. We dont even complain at the lack of licences anymore, but to deprive the fans of small formalities that should be present in a football game is f'kin' shameful.

I've not played the full game yet because I'm abroad, but I killed the demo before I left the UK (PS3).

Initially, I have to say I was very disappointed with the demo's effort. I hear the full game has improved on it, but I can't obviously say for sure. I did still find myself playing it much more than the FIFA demo, in fact, I deleted FIFA after the PES demo came out. Maybe I have a soft spot for PES but FIFA does not do it for me. The package itself is impressive and it looks great but gameplay wise it will never be Pro Evo, not for me anyway.

PES2009 is still the best football game out there in terms of gameplay. I've played FIFA2009 and it's good, but it's still not a good football game - not if you have any idea about how to play good football. The distinct thing that makes PES and FIFA so different is that in FIFA, 9 times out of 10, the better team (ability wise) will win, fairly regardless of the ability of the actual players. In PES, my most valued moments playing were when the mighty Scotland dished out a beating to Brazil against one of my friends. Obviously this would never happen in real life, but the fact that I was good enough to use my limited squad to play better football was a great gaming reward. FIFA has never been like that, it's always been that the individually brilliant players in teams won the games through the ways of being faster, better at shooting than the rest. Although I don't deny that having a better team in PES makes it easier to win, I believe that a great PES player can beat a decent PES player, regardless of the gulf in class between sides. The same is very rarely true of FIFA.

Sadly, FIFA, nor PES are 'next-gen' football games. In fact, I wish people would stop going on about 'next-gen'. What is that anyway? Really? Have we managed to gain a new conceptual way in the way we design games? No - we haven't. With the XBOX360, the PS3 and the Wii - the most 'next-gen' console is probably the Wii, due to it's unique take on gaming through players' motion. Fact is we've just thrown more hardware at games which has allowed a better level of detail and realism. I don't think you can argue that FIFA and PES look better on PS3 and XBOX360 than PS2 and XBOX..

Simple fact is, that if you want a truly 'next-gen' game, you MUST redefine the genre. It's not possible to do this in a year. That is a fact. If you look at GTA4, that game was around 2-3 years in the making and was a complete overhaul of previous incarnations. It is arguably one of the most tailored/polished games that have been released on the new formats. Football games sadly have become pressured into an annual release - you have to blame EA for that one, during their money-making period between 99 and 04 probably. I don't seem to remember ISS being released every year, there were 2 versions for the SNES, that was it. They rehauled it for the N64 and then got into the silly release schedule of yearly. If any of you remember the ISS 2000, it differed very little from the previous incarnation, aside from a ridiculous J-style career mode in which you played a Be A Legend type story mode. Look at Mario's transition to next gen. A 2D platformer into a 3D world, with a totally different control method - again, years in the making.

Games companies are money driven and always will be. With Pro Evo/ISS now having such a fan base, Konami have had to move with the times and release a yearly schedule to keep the franchise going. The result, the quality/improvement has suffered. Until Konami rip the heart out of PES and take a good 2-3 years remaking the engine, we're not going to get a new next-gen title. One that literally will blow everything else out in comparison. All FIFA have done since around 2004 is take bits out of Evo, and all power to them. They've now got a product that can be judged on the same level.

Konami are, or used to be, one of the most innovative software companies around. You only have to look at the MGS series to know that. EA just tend to churn out the same tried and tested franchise each year. Punters will buy that. 90% of the gaming world want instant thrills, good looking graphics and a name/license they can identify with. I would classify myself as a 'gamer' and I have to say the only next gen title to keep my eye was GTA4. My other favourites include MarioKart64, SuperMario64, GoldenEye, Shen Mue - all games from past gen consoles.

My point is that people are so quick to judge software houses on titles such as PES. It's impossible to develop and test a title in a year. It comes as no surprise to hear about the glitches being suffered in the new PES because obviously Seabass and his team are being pressured into making 'new features' whilst not having the proper time to implement them.

Ask yourself this though? How many people would be happy if PES took a break for a couple of years? Not many I would wager. Fact is we're stuck with PES and FIFA, both sub standard in terms of being 'next-gen'. Who says we have to buy either?

Just had a couple of hours on FIFA08 mainly cause you can not play 2 people on the same console online (well you can barley play 1 if I am honest) and a friend was round and I enjoyed it, going to get fifa09 tonight, I wont feel like I am cheating on PES, but cheated out of my money maybe.

i disagree with alot that was said here and what alot of people have said, but especially "Anybody that gave FIFA09 a objective decent run through will know that it's one hell of a game."

So because i think it is absolute shit compared to pro, does that make me a bad person? i have played more fifa than pro, and yet.....?

I think you people are having to high expectations, yes we have not made giant leaps in to something different, as fifa had, but like i have said previously, its not hard to build on absolute shit.

As an all round game Fifa 08 was better than Pro 2008, but game play..i DARE you to tell me fifas was better, if you say this you should rest your head on yoru keyboard and sleep till tomorrow, when we can converse again.

We have solid game play, we may never have manager mode and licensed Fullham, but who the fuck cares when you have great game play...i cant understand what it will take to please you people? mind control football?

There is so much complaining, i think i will open another thread or just extend this one with the question/Statement "stop crying and tell us how pro could be the best game ever?"

Negative comments dont help things improve. Bare that in mind

No, he speaks the truth. PES 09 is awful, I cannot understand why people are saying its the best PES ever - they must be mental. Why is it crap you ask? Some quick reasons -

* AI - Simply no movement from your players, and don't say I don't know how to play because I do. It's stupid.

* Animation - Like drunk giraffes on speed, what a fucking joke.

* The thrill of PS2 versions well and truly lost.

* Goalkeepers - If anyone defends them, you are truly bonkers.

* Camera's - No freedom of choice, where is 1-9 tilt AGAIN?!

* Realism - Completely lost in my opinion, more arcadey than ever.

There is much more, and I will probably get pelters for these comments, but the fact is I have played PES since the ISS days and we should be playing some amazing, world beating, stunning incarnation of the great sport. The mere fact that there are so many arguments about "good PES/bad PES" shows that something is wrong. It needs changing dramatically.

Maybe another dev/publisher should creat a fresh football game. I would try anything now.

And for those of you who are thinking it, I think FIFA is poor as well.
