I Fear the Worst for Pes 2009

This thread had died some months ago, but I see people still need to try FIFA 08 (try meaning play more than 2 games before throwing it away because you can't score or 'pass it right') before mouthing stuff about PES only being behind on the licenses. I wish! Those were old times now gone.

Not trying FIFA on principle is stupid. Not buying it because EA "rips you off" and then buying PES 2008, is doubly stupid.

I have both PES and FIFA 2008 - Both suck!! although I actually enjoy playing FIFA08 a bit more. But still, both games give a ridiculous amount of importance to Pace!! Pace is not Skill, it feels like Konami replaced Skill for Pace - it gets really boring, really fast. Many people think FIFA08 is better, that's how bad PES 2008 is.

In an interview i watched, Seabass stated that 2008 was not next generation due to the fact that the production team didnt have enough time to do it since they have to completely start over and by the time of release it wouldnt be up to scratch. He said himself 2008 was a disappointment.

However, he did say that 2009 should be a massive improvement and be the first truly next generation version of pes 2009 so stop moaning :)

Also EA have liscensing fees, as has been said repeatedly, so stop asking for proper teams and all that bullshit

I don't really care about the licenses, those are only details. However, PES 2008 was a huge disappointment and - Seabass just before the release of PES 2008 said "I am most satisfied about the fact that we accomplished both, the Graphics and the Game Play" "I can guarantee you'll have fun playing it".

So what IF Seabass said it will be a massive improvement?? Do you not see that he is merely selling the game. It is only normal that he will say something like "PES 2009 will be a next generation game, a huge improvement", Seabass is just selling the game dude. Maybe after the release of PES 2009, Seabass will say "We didn't had the time required to do a next gen game, bla, more excuses, bla, bla.."

And after that, we'll probably read comments like "PES 2010 is a massive improvement, it is the reason people bought a PS3". Seabass and Konami are just selling the game, don't take too seriously what they say because you'll probably get scammed. I was a huge PES Fan, but PES 2008 has been a huge disappointment, not worth playing at all, and Seabass has lost all credibility to me. However, I do hope PES 2009 is a good football game, football games should be much better no excuses.

U are right, its no more about satisfying us.I have been buying and playing Pes right from the 1st one. Now I am really disappointed with konami. PES08 was just made to make money. Not enough resources was put into it. what the outcome of pes09 will be, i don't know but the truth is that I will not make the mistake of buying any pes game in the 1st few wks of its release. Next time I'll rather rent one. I personally don't expect much changes on pes09. However, all I want is the possibility for us to do more editting to the game ourselves. Lets face it, we are all disappointed with Konami. It is time they listen to us

Well, the Edit Mode of PES 2008 is ridiculous. Is there a good reason at all to justify why I had a better editing mode in the PS2?? Shouldn't the PS3 feature a better Editing Mode? Personally, I think konami would make a lot of fans happy by featuring Maradone, Pele, Valderrama, Cruijff, Romario, Beckenbauer, etc, etc.. with their REAL FACES. I mean, plenty of (us) PES Fans use the editing mode to create versions of Maradona and Pele - It would be well appreciated if Konami did that for us. So IF Konami features the "Classic Players" with their real faces (names are unimportant) - I don't see much use in the editing of the faces.

However, the editing of the uniforms should be far better. I'd be pleased if I could create a decent uniform with plenty of possibilities -instead of- the greatly limited PES 2008 Uniform Editing.

Also, it would be very cool if the "classic players" have their 'real names'. I mean, how cool would it be to be using Maradona and hear the commentaries going "Diego Armando Maradona!!". It would be awesome, although maybe it is not possible for one reason or another.

And apart from the editing options, Konami still NEEDS to make huge improvements on all areas of the game; the game play, the online play, the graphics, the skills system, etc, etc.. Konami needs a good-finished-next gen PES to gain credibility.

i was very disappointed with pes2008, fifa 08 just edged it while euro 2008 is leaving nothing but dust for pes2008 to chew on. These Japanese dudes better come up with something massive in the next couple of months or they'll fall on their backs and die. People now buy the game just because of its reputation, nothing more and nothing less. So i really hope that people stop these nostalgic moments and stop being such fanboys. I mean we all play football game because we love the real thing not because konami have breastfed us for so long now we can't let go of that tit.

i still don't understand your moaning and how anyone can say that fifa is better.
stick a ps2 on and a ps3 and get pro evo 08 running side by side deary me i can tell the difference straight off the bat, the gameplay is far better you have a hell of a lot more control over the player im not sure why u are all complaining as i#ve just come from my friends who has the game for ps2 the movement of the player is so delayed compared to the ps3, the gameplay is as good as it should be, what people talking about pace is more important than skills well the reason why, because it is, you see the modern game of football and the likes of torres sprinting past that is how the game plays just players dont dare run anymore of fear of being dropped because squads are so big these days.

yes pro evo 08 isnt what we all expect, no it isnt up to the standard we want it at but think about it this way they had to start from scratch, they cudn't use the pro evo 06 which was on 360 which can i remind u was the worsed ever pro evo game i have ever played. please all stop your moaning because end of the day we are still al playing the game i can go on anytime day or nite and get a good game of footy off online the lag is rubbish sometimes but sometimes it holds up, there isnt much slowdown.

anyway to the fifa is better how the hell is it, fifa still feels like that ball is glued to your feet, they run like there floating its just the same old fifa with hyped up graphics ok i admit the gameplay is getting a little better to control but it just doesnt have the feeling of a pro evo game.

stop your moaning and whining about it, we aint gonna get a perfect football game yet let them have time and anyway pro evo 08 isnt even that bad, it plays and feels like every other pro evo game there is and that is change, deary me its like ur all forgetting each pro evo game, they were all different, first and second were about the same but pro evo 3 was so different, pro evo 4 was so different agen wiv a more arcadey yet still simulation which kept u hooked for ages, pro 5 was a step up a little more real and more control, pro 6 was an even different experience with many pro evo fans not liking the whole to real feeling to it and the ref's omg how bad and now with this one i think its a step in the right direction. u aint ones for a true football experience if ur all sayin pro evo 08 shit sh*t because its far from tht.

Dude, Football Fans like you really annoy me. Do you really think PACE is more important than SKILL?? Because by that logic, we would have 100s Cristiano Ronaldos by now, myself included.

The modern game?? What about it? You think because is faster it makes pace more important - news flash for you; Cesc Fabregas, Juan Roman Riquelme, Diego, Del Piero, Zinedine Zidane, Luis Figo, John Terry, and many more are (were) SLOW. Truth be told, both Pele and Maradona would make Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaka look like amateurs - today. The modern game!! people say it like if it was an improvement. Football has simply changed, it hasn't improved - watch some damn match footage from the 1980s and 1990s, SKILL is and always will be more important than PACE.

And by the way, if you think PES 2008's game play is good.. I feel for you dude, really. The players move in a FIFA-Like way, the Game Play is boring as hell, scoring goals is depressing, Defending is a myth, the online play is ridiculous, the editing modes are useless, the list keeps going and going. And hey, if you like that - That's fine with me, you're the one who'll get scammed time and time again. We moan because PES 2008 is not close to being a good football game, let alone a Next Gen Football Game.

Yeah, it's the same case with you "Joe Lame" - Did I asked for your opinion?? By the way, it's not much of an opinion, quite pointless in my opinion. Since this is an open thread, I thought I'd leave my opinion, I don't give a fu*k if you disagree or are somehow offended.

PES08 is a good game, my favourite game anyway and i play it almost daily for a little bit, we live in a spoilt society and we expect everything to be on a nice shiny plate for us. PES08 was missing alot of features and that is a shame, but it remains the best football game out there by a mile.

i'm sure the next one will be slightly better but we will all moan a bit about that as well.

First off, FIFA is pure shit. Is this PES the best game ever? NO!!! Can they do alot more with it? HELL YEAH! Is it better than FIFA? HOW CAN YO EVEN COMPARE THE TWO!

I fuckin hate Fifa supporters. I had the game only b/c it was released wayyyy before PES. The graphics sucked balls (unless your sooo impressed with actual jerseys, WOW), the players move real weird like, the moves suck and are not all that realistic. You could pull off super moves 3-4 times a game, how many times a game did Zizou actually pull off the Marseille turn???

Seems to me FIFA fans like the fact that it is easy to score goals, easy to pull off moves and this and that. Also the hype about the licensing, how many teams do you really notice??? Are you happy that Toronto FC is in the game?? Can't live without the MLS I guess.

I like PES '08, I agree that it could be better and hopefully next year it will improve on things, but most importantly it boils down to realism. If you appreciate soccer and the subtle nuances of the sport you cannot help but be a lifelong supporter of this game. I can watch an ENTIRE game of soccer just observing a player pass the ball, nothing crazy, just a nice pass, that is what makes this game, not all the crap loaded in FIFA that attracts casual soccer fans and 12 year olds.

I'm out!

Well, I think FIFA sucks! I partly agree with 'BMI'. Although I would be lying if I didn't say that PES 2008 is just as bad. FIFA Fans like the fantasy of FIFA, they create space via "the right analog stick". On the other hand, PES was always renowned for it's good game play, you created space via "passing and movement".

And yet - can you say PES 2008 haves good game play?? Can you say space is created via passing and movement?? No! everything is created via "PACE". It's like Konami replaced Skill with Pace, I can run circles around defenders. And the defending is ridiculous as well as extremely boring. And also, Scoring Goals lacks an essential feeling, a feeling that old versions of PES had.

So in short - PES 2008 is plain bad, the older versions are better. There is just no justification that can explain why PES was better in PS2!! Shouldn't the PS3 versions be much better?? Didn't we payed for a Next Gen Game?

Alright dude,

I agree with much of what you say, good points!!!

However, I don't dislike PES '08 quite as much as you do. I agree the pace thing is rather silly (play with Nani and run down the right flank, its crazy fast). Also, the speed of the game is alittle much, feels arcadish to me.

In saying that I do notice a difference between players, lesser skilled players passes arn't as accurate as opposed to skilled players who passes are.....well......skilled. I also agree that previous versions were more realistic, although the later versions didn't add much from year to year. To be honest, if Konami had no master league than this game would tank large.

So thats my take, I just hate EA sooooo much, their supports arn't fans of the game, they are just gamers, they have no idea about soccer and the way it is played. They are thesame people that say soccer is boring and that the nets should be larger (faggots). The same is true wil all their games, all homers in baseball, one handed grabs in football and windmill dunks in basketball, just sooo unrealistic.

Cheers.

Exactly, as I feel - those people who like FIFA don't really know what Football is about. They just want to take an entire team and dribble it via "the right analog stick" - wich is not so bad every once in a while, but after 2 to 6 perfectly executed roulettes.. well, it becomes extremely boring, it becomes extremely arcadish, predictable and boring.

"arcadish" - that is the word to describe PES 2008, it haves a crappy arcadish Game Play. And maybe I'm too harsh on the game, maybe it is not that bad if I play it long enough -but- In my opinion it is just unacceptable that the PS2 versions were better. And I'm already bored with the PS2 versions, so I guess I'm a Fan who's hard to satisfy.

Anyways, I hope someone, anyone -Konami, EA Sports, etc, etc- comes up with a Football game that's worthy of a next gen status.

I don't buy the PES series over reputation dude. I but the game because it is a more realistic adaptation of real soccer than FIFA is. I could care less about the rep of this game or any other. In fact, most of the games that have all the hype turn out to be rubbish and some of the games that get rated poorly are actually quite good.

Talk about sucking a tit, look at FIFA supporters and the company as a whole. They produce FIFA but didn't/don't (not sure about the recent verision) include the World cup tourney, they release an actual FIFA world cup game, ITS THE SAME FUCKIN GAME!!! They do it with the Euro cup also AND the champions league, talk about dumb fans wasting their money on what is essentially three games that are the same thing!!!

At least Konami does'nt take advantage of stupid supporters of the game (there are enough of us trust, PES fans that is). Justb/c you can sell them based on foolish consumers does not mean you should, says alot about the company and the fans.

Lastly, no f'kin way FIFA edges anything out, I'd rather not play a soccer game than buy that coaster of a game.
