I Fear the Worst for Pes 2009

I don't buy the PES series over reputation dude. I but the game because it is a more realistic adaptation of real soccer than FIFA is. I could care less about the rep of this game or any other. In fact, most of the games that have all the hype turn out to be rubbish and some of the games that get rated poorly are actually quite good.

Talk about sucking a tit, look at FIFA supporters and the company as a whole. They produce FIFA but didn't/don't (not sure about the recent verision) include the World cup tourney, they release an actual FIFA world cup game, ITS THE SAME FUCKIN GAME!!! They do it with the Euro cup also AND the champions league, talk about dumb fans wasting their money on what is essentially three games that are the same thing!!!

At least Konami does'nt take advantage of stupid supporters of the game (there are enough of us trust, PES fans that is). Justb/c you can sell them based on foolish consumers does not mean you should, says alot about the company and the fans.

Lastly, no f'kin way FIFA edges anything out, I'd rather not play a soccer game than buy that coaster of a game.

Some good points there, but in all honesty FIFA08 is a much improved game than it was put it that way. Alot of members in the past said
"PES is the best soccer game on the planet"
Now we have some saying
"FIFA is an unbelievably good game". Me? i have both FIFA08 and PES2008, what do i play more? well for messing around on Exhibition FIFA08 for Carear Mode? PES2008

I agree with you, that is one of the reason for the WHY I dislike FIFA Fans. They consistently get ripped off with games like FIFA World Cup or UEFA Champions League!! They are all the same exact game, and they could easily add the Champions League to FIFA. However, they don't do it.. and they don't do it because dumb a$$ fans buy their Champions League games (the World Cup games are acceptable, as they only come every 4 years).

About the World Cup games - Wouldn't it be cool if Konami made World Cup games of past World Cups?? Like 1994 World Cup, or 1986 World Cup, etc, etc.. Or it would be even better, if a game included all the best International teams of all times - so I could play 1970 Brazil vs. 1986 Argentina.

But anyways, EA Sports has been ripping people off for years. I mean, EA Sports haves the balls to not only release a crappy football game named FIFA, but also to release another crappy game about the UEFA Champions League. I mean, Why can't they add the Champions League to FIFA?? I guess money is the main priority, they don't give a damn about consistently scamming their own fans.

And lastly, I cannot really say PES 2008 is way better than FIFA 2008, cannot say it. After 1 or 2 weeks of playing PES 2008, the game becomes extremely boring, FIFA-boring in my opinion.

it's an age old arguement, but the fact remains, for some reason playing FIFA is like ice skating with a ball, and pro evo is actually fun whilst remaining a challenge.

personaly i rekon that for pes to move forward, they have to look at fifa and incorporate some part of fifas game play, features etc in the future pes games to come. i always buy fifa and pes mostly every year, and on the whole i prefer pes a million times over, but i have to say that fifa des have a lot of good features. take the season for example, you get real money, a little bit of managing, realistic transfers etc plus the tricks do look alot better on fifa lol but still i rekon that pes has to learn from the competition not beat it.

im not sure if this point has already been made cos i didnt bother reading all four pages that has essays of posts lol soz

Is that a slight contradiction?

All in all I'm pretty much with you. There's no doubting that PES was poor this year, but there's also no doubting that FIFA has improved dramatically. And yes, their repackaged titles are rediculous.

Have any of you even gave Euro 2008 a go?
It's been one of the best football game experiences for me since pes5!
Massively improved from fifa 08 which i had no interest in but played now and again with a mate.

players dont look like their skating on the pitch
Thats just something being said to put fifa down. Maybe it looked like they were in past titles but its obvious it doesn't anymore. Its also obvious those claiming it clearly haven't played fifa in years either.

I was a huge pes fan before 2008, I used to say the same things

"only thing fifa has is licenses"
"its easy to score on fifa"
"the world cup and euro games are blatant clones of fifa"

In truth now i disagree a lot with them comments. Right now more and more people are realising exactly what fifa has to offer. A lot more than licenses. Be a pro is a new and exciting mode, something that can sure as hell be improved on for fifa 09. Its certainly a great mode in euro 2008.

Easy to score!!
Try notching up the difficulty a little for a start. The AI has massively improved from years before. You have to work the pitch with passes to see a path developing in the opponents defence.

In pes i simply made my way to the wing, cross it in and 9/10 get a goal or near miss.

Now my third point, the spin offs (WC and Euros)
by all means all games prior to this new euro were exactly rip offs but now they've listened to the fans and took whatever was wrong in fifa 08 and fixed it.

Reaction times have been sped up. animations have been tweaked. Shooting, passing and through balls have also been tweaked. Making the game miles better than pes2008 and even fifa 08.

Its that good that i've made my first ea footie game purchase in 4/5 years.

So instead of coming out with the quotes ive pointed out above. Take a minute, watch a game of football on tv, have a go at euro, notice the much improved gameplay, go back to whatever konami claim as brilliant gameplay then come back and say pes is the game to own.

Well, I'm extremely disappointed with both PES 2008 and FIFA08, and I'm already bored of PES 2007 (PES6?). So I'll take a look at Euro 2008, if the DEFENDING has been properly sorted out along with the PASSING - I'll consider buying it.

By the way, I have no biased opinions towards FIFA. It was just the plain truth - PES was a much better Football game than FIFA, crappy graphics, but much better game-play, defending, dribbling, passing and goal-scoring. However, PES 2008 lost that essential feeling that made PS2 PES versions so entertaining and addictive - And FIFA?? FIFA is actually getting there, slowly on purpose, but they are improving.

So anyways, I hope EA Sports 'Euro 2008' is actually good because I don't have a decent football game to play in my PS3.

Back to the improvements for 2009: CHANGE THE F*CKING SOUNDTRACK! which would be start, i like th eidea a few posts back about hiring/firing coaches etc in master league, consistant refereeing decisions with the odd "bad decision", more editing options is just plain obvious and maybe try to incorporate youth teams into master league to develop your own young stars instead of the pre-chosen 1s u sign in the negotiations. Just ideas but they could work

Hahahahha, i think that they can't buy any rights for decent songs ethier, lol. I just think that if PES 2008 had some good songs in fact the game could have looked diferent. What's the deal with Konami lately, it's like thay just don't care about the people who make this game popular...

I think that konimi should help the PES community be able to add things to the game. Instead of making it hard not to. get the proper licences and improve the crowd effects and commentary. And iron out a few of the annoying flaws. and sort out the online mode with the lag. thtas the main reason I bought it on pc. But I have heard from friends that the ps3 version has the same problems.

Restructuring the Champions League (or King's Cup because I always change the name) is also a must if Konami want to revitalize the Master League.

#1 - I give you a scenario of eight random league and cup champions from four different leagues...

Manchester United - Arsenal
Juventus - AC Milan
Barcelona - Real Madrid
Bayern Munich - Werder Bremen

The idea of championship qualification (be they league or cup) fulfils the criteria of only competition winners qualifying for a Champions League place, maintaining its prestige while also adding importance to the domestic cup competitions, difficulty in qualification (limited spaces) and participation (teams like Ream Madrid and AC Milan trying to squeeze you out of their elite group). I think I speak for a lot of people when I say I'm sick of facing teams like Aston Villa and Middlesborough in a competition that's supposed to be 'reward' for the previous season's hard grafting. This format ensures a healthy rotation of top quality teams entering the competition to prevent the experience from going stale (e.g. Man United/Juventus/Barcelona/Bayern may win the League/Cup one season, Chelsea/Inter Milan/Valencia/Stuttgart the next) while the elimination of a qualification round means there's zero risk of an uneven ratio of teams-per-league. There’s no reason for domestic rivals to clash in the group stage.

#2 -Imagine them split into two groups of four (two league and cup champions per group) with two home and away legs in each tie...

Group A
Manchester United
AC Milan
Barcelona
Werder Bremen

Group B
Arsenal
Juventus
Real Madrid
Bayern Munich

Two groups provide an even distribution of quality throughout the competition. The quality of each side should break the predictability of knowing who’ll qualify from every group. The prospect of two home and away legs between each side (twelve matches for a single side - the same number any team plays en route to the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League) emphasises the idea of a League of Champions, giving a fair and thorough assessment of how your team ranks when matched with the best the Master League has to offer as well as prolonging the competition over the course of a season. Home & Away form MUST be a factor in deciding a tied group, it's the European way...

#3 King's Cup Final

Group A winner v Group B winner

Nothing really needs explaining here, the two group winners meet in a titanic clash of epic proportions, however, such an occasion needs the appropriate stadia. My suggestion would be allowing us to customize a list of up to ten stadia in the game with 50'000 capacity or higher (Emirates, Allianz Arena, Dragao, Jose Avalade, etc...), or whatever your choice, to be set out at random to host finals for the next ten seasons. Having a fixed destination for every final would be far more realistic than a random, ugly, under-capacity stadium which fails to do the occasion justice.

#4 The Master’s Cup (or European Championship - yes, I do steal these names) - The format would mimic the current Champions League format, eight groups of four teams, home and away leg with the top two qualifying to the knock out round. Qualification would require a top five finish (or lower depending on Champions League qualification). For Example...

1st Manchester United - KC (League Champions)
2nd Chelsea - EC
3rd Arsenal - KC (Cup Champions)
4th Liverpool - EC
5th Everton - EC
6th Tottenham - EC

1st Juventus - KC (League Champions)
2nd AC Milan - KC (Cup Champions)
3rd Inter Milan - EC
4th Roma - EC
5th Fiorentina - EC
6th Udinese - EC

1st Barcelona - KC (League Champions)
2nd Valencia - EC
3rd Villareal - EC
4th Real Madrid - KC (Cup Champions)
5th Atletico Madrid - EC
6th Sevilla - EC

1st Bayern Munich - KC (League Champions)
2nd Borussia Dortmund - EC
3rd Bayer Leverkusen - EC
4th Hamburg - EC
5th Stuttgart - EC
6th Werder Bremen - KC (Cup Champions)

As you may or may not have guessed by this post, I hold a complete abhoration for the pointless qualification stage we’ve been subjected to on previous Master Leagues. I mean honestly, what’s the point a there’s only four league’s that exist? So, in my opinion, seeding should be based on League position, which would be...

Chelsea, Inter Milan, Valencia, Borussia Dortmund

Liverpool, Roma, Villareal, Bayer Leverkusen

Everton, Fiorentina, Atletico Madrid, Hamburg

Tottenham, Udinese, Sevilla, Stuttgart

This would give the player incentive to focus on the league even if the title race has already been decided, with a higher league position resulting in an easier path through the group stage as well as financial rewards varying depending on final league position. Once again no qualification stage means no risk of upsetting the teams-per-league ratio, thus the resulting draw wouldn’t feature two teams from the same League. After that the rest pretty much writes itself...

Group A
Chelsea
Villareal
Hamburg
Udinese

Group B
Valencia
Liverpool
Fiorentina
Stuttgart

Group C
Borussia Dortmund
Roma
Everton
Sevilla

Group D
Inter Milan
Bayer Leverkusen
Atletico Madrid
Tottenham

#5 Closing notes - I understand that the whole point of this game is realism, but in a mode as unique as the Master League realism is a relative term. The specialness has gone from the mode’s premier competitions and after five years a change must be made to refresh it. Oh, and for the love of GOD, PLEASE have a European Super Cup.

Trust Konami look what they've produced over the years. People forget that. PES 2008 wasn't that bad a game offline. Just needs tweaking, and more features. Look how far its come over they years

Hi Pro Evo Players

I have a bad feeling that next years version is just going to be another small update by konami. Reading the posts and forums there is a lot of pissed of people and you cant blame them they bought the game. Now the FA are joining not allowing there stuff to be used in the game. I would say all the FIFA fans are laughing their ass off. Have any of you guys any comments on this maybe konami will make a brilliant game but the way its going with this pro evo I really dont think so......

Im sure it will be just fine!

I think there are too many misconceptions with FIFA and PES, i.e.

FIFA's gameplay is crap, which it isnt...

PES gameplay is the most advanced which it isnt judging from last years effort...

I mean I cant believe Konami havent tried adding brazilian and argentinian leagues seeing as the best young players are coming from there over the last few years...

Konami have a lot of potential to make the game even bigger, but potential is worthing nothing untill its realised

Leagues and modes are important but gameplay is far more important. I would have considerd buying it if it plays like pes 08 but it surley won't now. It's clearly showing to be much better.

You know what I love, I've said it before, I'll say it again, this is only Konami's 2nd proper go at next gen, where as EA had about oh.. 6 tries to apparently get it right with 09 so don't abandon all hope just yet eh, give it a chance, if EA had that many tries, Konami should be given the same chance.
