I just can't get into this game

I have played PES since the first one on PS1 and was always the game for me.

PES 2008 lost my love, and from then on I have found it extremely hard to enjoy. This year I picked up 2011 with the hope it would be back to the days I loved. For some reason I just can't enjoy this. Its strange because many say how addictive it is, but I just find everything so routine.

There seems to be a lack of pleasure in scoring, mainly because it feels if you hit a half decent shot the keeper isn't gonna save it anyway.

I really want to enjoy the Master League, but I am struggling to get any excitement out of the whole game!

Have you tried increasing the level?

I was underwhelmed at first, now I can't stop playing the fucker having discovered many depths to the gameplay. It does baffle my mind that konami didn't polish up the hideous flaws(some are there on purpose as balancing acts) but I find master league offline more addictive than ever. I also hated pes 2008, it was a blueprint for how not to make a football simulation.

Give it some time. And if you can't get into ML, try out some of the new modes that you're missed out on since you've been away (BAL, MLO).

I quit playing after PES6 (video games full stop really) until starting again with PES10.
With PES11, like SDP says there are some really silly 'design features' both in the play mode and in the setup that have you going WTF, STFU, BBQ, PES11FTMFL and lots of other interwebs acronyms.

I bought it when it first came out, played 9 or 10 matches, didn't like the view of the pitch, the passing and thought the menus were overly ornate, compared to PES10 and left it alone until Jan. Now that college football and the NFL are done and I have some free bloke time, I have picked it up again and the addictiveness of ML has got me hooked.

I use to be a huge Madden fan and tried it again after my video game sabatical and didn't enjoy it nearly as much as I did 5 years ago, but with PES11 the enjoyment has returned.

Thanks for the tips guys. I put my controller down yesterday and walked away. But strangely enough within half hour I had put it back on again.

I got promoted from Div 2 (only in 3rd) with championship option file. I think even though the option file is brilliant because the quality of the teams are far lower i wasn't seeing the true PES come out. Now I am in the premiership, teams are battering me, scoring goals and I am struggling. It seems to have brought back a little of the old PES in me!!

I was a big pes gamer.. I loved number 3 and well pes6 is possibly the greatest football game ever made. I enjoyed pes2008 too... I didnt go for pes2009.. more due to lack of time and too much partying(id not long started uni).. I brought pes2010 but with the way it was after a while i decided to play Fifa.

I played fifa10 from March onwards and then. When it came to newreleases i preordered pes and then downloaded the demo... I struggled with the demo and well cancelled the preorder and got fifa.(BIG BIG MISTAKE). Fifa had good gameplay but everything else was a mess... CM has to be the worst attempt of a football game mode ever. Every basically didnt work properly sackings at wrong points(ie didnt take game in hands into consideration) stupid transfer fees, big name players being replaced with crap players by other teams and young players not growing... 5 seasons in and 65-70 goals later and Bebe was still 64OVR and hadnt grown at all.

I then decided to pick up pes2011... being £17.99 on play i thought it was a bargain and what a game... It took me roughly 120 games to properly get a feel and get used to the game, work out perfect tactics and well adapt a certain style. I have unlocked both add on parts for the ML(possibly cheating but ah well) Even with the max budget i dont spend big, i have only brought two big name players in my whole 3 seasons... rest have been personal likes or youth. I have to say i am loving it, the depth to the MLis amazing. It is such a rush to score and level a game or even get winners... even if i am controlling the match and have a big win each goal is a great feeling.

Give it a bit of time.... I think if you play the mess of Fifa's CM it will atleast make you appreciate how Konami have tried to keep ML as addictive as ever and havent really ditched offline modes in preference to online.

^^Thanks

Oh one other thing if you want to try get used to it a bit quicker try working your way up.
Start on beginner and play a load of games on that, get a feel of basic movement, passing and shooting.. Then once you feel partly comfortable move up to the next level of difficulty and then repeat until you have reached the difficulty level you want to play on.
That way you should be able to get a direct feel for each difficulty and what upping the difficulty will change and how you will be able to suceed with it

Another thing OP to add to the good advice above, first touch is more crucial in this game than any other pes, last gen or new. The heavier you are on the LS the more likely the ball will bounce of your player like he is made of the concrete. The game wants you to take the sting/momentum out of the ball by deft touches of the analog, also get used to RT close control, helps you build momentum so you don't feel like your dribbling through glue all the time, it also cuts down on the highly irritating stumbling animation when being gang raped by the sometimes spasticated AI.

I understand what he means.

1st 5 games I knew I wanted to like the game but couldnt get used to the new style.

5-10 games getting better but still drawing 1-1 or loosing 1-0

10-20 games you start to learn what changes to make to your formation and what works for you in terms of playing styles..

20 plus.

you try to put your football brain to good use and actually pull off what your trying to achieve in your brain.

It goes on and the more you play it the more your love for it grows.

Thats a good thing I believe.. Its been 4 months already and I dont think ive reached the peak of enjoyment yet while learning and experiencing new things in the game...

I'm also still scoring new goals

I know some fifa players who have recached that peak already and move onto other games..

Dont get me wrong im not starting a which game is better debate but I know PES lasts all year round and Im talking about for the majority.. obviously some cant stand this game like the post above which is fair enough but Im confident they are the minority.

Another thing holding people back is the inability to evolve and move with the times.

We should all be using analogue by now but its those who use D-pad that also seem to hate the new camera angles.

Why would you want to unrealistically run in exact straight or diagnal lines up and down the pitch? This isnt gaming in the 80's

I think the camera looks realistic and as long as you can control the analogue then the camera angles shouldnt mess up your movements.

Also the manual passing.. learn it in training and move on..

Im holding a competition at my place this weekend for my birthday.. Im getting on in age but ive learned that a few of the older bunch coming still play PES2010 over PES2011 because they cant get used to it and they need those extra rails to assist their passing and movement.

Well I hope they all get raped on saturday thats all I can say lol
