I've finally figured out how to take a penalty!

Tap square first, then tap back on the D-Pad, and viola, the keeper dives either left or right and you (almost) chip the shot down the middle.

By tap I mean you 'hit' the square button, don't 'hold' it for any length of time. And again by 'back' I mean opposite the direction you are facing when taking the penalty. It's also important to do it in sequence i.e. tap square first THEN tap back. By doing this in training the keeper has yet to save it. I did sky it a couple of times at first but once you get feel for it it's easy.

I've been practising the penalties as they have been made needlessly difficult, but believe now I have the answer.

On PES 2009, I hit the penalty down the middle everytime and not once was it saved.

On PES 2010, I cant be sure if I even won a penalty. ;-)

I got the hang of penos in 2010 but for the life of me i cant score them now! I would actually prefer to lose a game than go to a shoot out! The system needed a change but why make it so bad!

The penalties are actually unbelievably easy once you know what to do. Bear in mind this is from the normal perspective when you get a penalty during a game, for shoot-outs make the correct adjustments. To run up press X or Square (depending on your console) and then press down or up to choose the direction you want to shoot the ball and then left or right to choose power and elevation on the shot with left being less power and right being more.

I tend to shoot with less power in either direction and it seems unsaveable even when the keeper goes in the direction I shoot.

Go into training pick free kicks when the ball is on the pitch move it into
the penalty area,it will then change to a penalty kick.I hope this helps

Finally mastered pens myself! I didn't realise up and down on the LS controlled direction and left and right control height :faceplm:

I haven't tried online yet, but have scored every penalty against the COM using the method I outlined in the OP.

Yep. It's highly likely the CPU will make one of your defenders give away penalties, too, even if you haven't pressed slide tackle.
