This news and pictures of the document leaked onto the internet earlier and has been doing the rounds on various forums (including ours), but before we posted about it we’ve tried our best to understand it fully. With this new found knowledge we present you with the news, and more importantly what we think it means for PES 2009. Some surprises in store…

First off the pics, released by PSPGEN. A huge thanks to them:

Secondly, a massive thanks to ThomasGOAL from WeArePes for helping out with the translations.

So, before we get onto the info, a lesson in explaining what the IDEF event is and who its for. The expo, as it says on the official site , is an event for games companies and distributors. This means no press, no media. Just the folks who are in charge of buying products, and then distributing them. So in this event, which was held between 24-26 June, wasn’t exclusive to Konami - it was for anyone in the industry.

Now onto the document. This release was handed out to the relevent people a few days before the event took place, detailing what to expect from the show. A quick translation reveals 3 important things. These are (thank again Thomas!):

new exceptional ambassador, a lot of new stadiums (few unpublished & exclusive), and new licence with a new partnership (this partnership make a bomb in videogame and football)

First off, its quickly easy to realise the ‘new ambassador’ means a new face of PES 2009. We’re backing it to be Messi, so case closed on that one. The news about new stadiums is to be expected after the low number in PES 2008, but the exclusive note suggests some we haven’t seen before too. And finally, what everyone should be excited about, is the news of a new license and partnership that will ‘make a bomb in videogame and football.’

Sorry guys, but that has to be the Champions League License. I was thinking that particular news was crazy at first, but after chatting to Suff about it as well, WENB’s stance is that it will be in PES 2009. A total guess obviously, but I cant think of another license really that could cause an impact. Obviously there are a few (EPL anyone?), but in the sense of a license that isn’t tied up by EA until the end of time - this is the one.

With the event happening last week, we’re hoping for an official word from Konami very soon. I was hoping for leaks in July, we’re off to a good start.

Very interesting to be honest, seems possible too.

Maybe the so-called "Massive License" isn't The Official License of the Champions League. I mean, another LICENSE that EA Sports doesn't owns haves to do with the CLASSIC PLAYERS, as FIFA haves a few Classic Players such as Franco Baresi, Franz Beckenbauer, and Zico -but- fails to include The CLASSICS that the fans really want to see.

Apart from those three (Baresi, Beckenbauer, and Zico).. FIFA doesn't includes; Pele, Maradona, Johan Cruijff, Di Stefano, Zidane, Bobby Moore, Garrincha, Platini, George Best, Roberto Baggio, Carlos Valderrama, Matt Le Tissier, Fernando Hierro, etc, etc..

And in my opinion it is ridiculous to have players such as Eric Cantona and Gheorge Hagi -but- failing to include the likes of Maradona, Pele, and Cruijff. There must be a reason for that, EA Sports must lack the Licenses required for including Pele and Maradona in their "FIFA" series.

And yeah, maybe some people don't think it's such a huge deal to have Maradona and Pele with their REAL names and faces. But regardless of that, Maradona and Pele are the sport's most renowned figures, and they have millions of fans worldwide. Point is, that having the Greatest Players of All-Time available in the game would have an impact on the game.

The option of using Maradona, and Pele, and Cruijff, and whomever you want -in- the Online Mode would be a New Feature that would surely please MILLIONS of fans worldwide -and- it would also be another option that FIFA doesn't haves for whatever the reason.

So, that new partnership or new license (whatever you want to call it) doesn't necessarily haves to be The Official License of The Champions League. Maybe it is, but who knows??

Amazing how a license, the Champions league can get everyone out of it's chair. i want rumors about how good the gameplay is and then a week later confirmed by Konami and a week later a video where you can see the gameplay. now that would be awesome. This license, I don't care.

Konami have acquired the licence. Fact. This does not mean it will be in PES 2009. See the article on the front page of this site.

Is it even possible that they have the CL license? EA do afterall still make the UEFA CL games.

I hope Konami doesn't pulls the same shit as EA Sports.. releasing two different games; "PES" and "UEFA Champions League".

That would be a slap in the face to all the fans, and I really hope they don't do such a disrespectful thing.

Completely agree with you -but- considering that FIFA always haves all the Licenses.. Well, it would be good to see Konami with The Official Champions League License for a change. It cannot all go FIFA's way.

damn right. The gameplay was so bad this year that has to be my main point of concern, it would be good to see the CL implemented into the master league but this will only be effective if the game itself is good.
