I've played PES for some years now but I have never tried this

Does Man Marking work?

Is it of any use vs a human player or just AI

Would appreciate the help

Cheers

yes it sure does work against human players and pretty well too. my mate always plays with barcelona and i always man mark messi aggresively (helps if u use a fast player) and usually hes takin out of the game

havent tried it against AI though :)

Well i would have to say i feel the opposite. I play against a friend offline, and he is a good dribbler, he has good skills with the ball.. he picks barcelona because of Henry, Eto'o and Messi. When i choose to mark either of them (Normal or Aggressive), my friend seems to have an easier time getting through them. I think its because my defenders stick close to whoever they are marked to. I feel like that makes my defenders useless, because all it takes is one through pass and no defender has a chance at catching any of those 3 in a foot race...

it works but if the opposition manage to slip your player, it can then leave big gaps to for them to exploit as the player can be pulled out of position.

i agree here...i try to avoid man marking with my back 4, i also tend to man mark the provider aggresively instead of the dribbler, ie man mark xavi with your holding midfielder and maybe have another cmf or sideback normally mark a forward...but definitely helps most to man mark the generally slower player that feeds the ball to the fast dribblers..like when i play madrid vs barca, ill man mark xavi agressively with diarra or gago to make sure his passes dont get to messi etoo or henry...while playing against these teams its also important to try not to pull forward your sidebacks too much because youll be totally screwed

I think man marking helps more my defence in a free kick or corner kick situation.
for example, normal or agressive marking on Henry by Pepe. . .

same to me I think it work
everytime i play against the big team, after setting to man marking on the key players, my DF will mark on the player more aggressively

Waiting....
I used to use it in the past (before PES2008) and it worked well, but I can't imagine it working this time round, especially with the ease of chip through passes. The defenders are blinded by the sun/flood lights when the ball is in the air, so they tend to freeze until the ball has passed them.
