Hi,
I will play a tournament with my friends next weekend. One of them will be playing with Manchester United. I selected Barcelona. We did some practice last night to warm up and he killed me... It was impossible for me to beat the counter attacks and the speed of Manchester United's players. Could you please give me some advice (best team to choose, tactic, etc?) I tried with Brazil, Barcelona and Milan and there is no way to beat Manchester. From a skill set point of view, my friend and I play very similar, the difference is Manchester United skills.....

Thanks in advance for your help
Paul

Sometimes its not about the teams you both pick, but the mental state of both your minds.

If your mates think they are better than you, then this will play on your mind.

Keep it in mind :D Seriously

Barca are better than United in Pes IMO

Eto'o, Henry, Messi are the best 3 strikers there is

Its been that long since i played with barca i can't tell you the best player, but play 3 up front. Henry on the left, Messi on the right and Eto' threw the middle. Spread them out abit tho, Henry and Messi are much more effective coming in from the wings to create damange. If by the end of the first half its not working, then get rid of the 3 up top just leave Eto' on his own. get a 5 - 1 - 2 - 2 formation on the go. Messi on the counter attack is just genius

Play with Barca with messi, hes your star man, he can dribble round anyone.

what was his style of play???

he plays counterattack. He sends the ball quick (using the triangle button) to Tevez or Ronney during counter attacks and finish scoring

I tried everything. I have been playing WE and PES since 2002 and this is the first time I feel frustrated. The Manchester United players are strong and fast.

Any suggestions?

Thanks a lot for your help. However I have 2 problems
1-How to deal with fast players in Manchester United
2-Do you recommend me to play from the wings and sending balls to Etoo or try to break in the middle?

Thanks!!!

Your friend is just obviously alot better at the game than you,

I do not agree with you. He has faster players in Machester than I have in Barcelona. He plays defend and counter attack. We have different game styles. We have been playing for 5 years and in the total ranking he is 4 games ahead.

The issue is that in PES 2009, Manchester United seems to be unbeateably. That is why I am asking for some help and advice

Thanks anyway for your point of view.

Barcelona has faster players than man utd

I think you should play exactly the way he does, this way when he's manchester, and you're barca, you'll beat him because barca are better than man utd.

Not regularly no, I like to switch it up, makes me become a better player overall ya see, if you can play as any team

I've played as barcelona a lot though, not so much man utd.

Got any specific questions regarding tactics or anything? I'm sure that way you'll get more helpful responses, rather than just saying that you need help beating someone.
Have you tried playing as Inter milan? A lot of people regard them as the best team in the game...

I agree with you. I need some guidance on strategy and tactics. I do not know how to set up a good strategy to play counterattack. Can you help me with this?
I tried Inter Milan, but I do not "feel" it. I feel playing Barcelona, Argentina or Brazil

I'm no expert on tactics mate :D

Usually I just play with whatever the default is...

I can give a quick explanation on how I use barca If you want

Playing from left to right...

------------Abidal--------------------------Hleb------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------
------------Puyol----------------------------------------Eto'o----
-Valdes-------------------Xavi-----Iniesta------------------------
------------Marquez--------------------------------Henry---------
------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------Alves--------------------------Messi----------------

I play Messi out on the right wing with the attack arrows facing to the right, and diagonally to the top right, and Hlebs attack arrows the same...This is so messi cuts and and can support the strikers, and so Hleb can run out towards the wing and cross balls in

Xavi plays DMF, because I beleive thats where he plays best, with Iniesta infront of him in CMF...Xavi would have an attack arrow facing to the right aswell, so he can get in there with iniesta, where you are attacking

Both henry & Eto'o would play CF with attack arrows facing both to the right

I dont usually make any changes to the defence, but to help with the counter attack element that you want, you could put both the LB and the RB attack arrows facing to the right again, so they get forward and support the wingers...

If you dont understand anything, let me know, hope this has helped...This is how I play with Barca :)

If you're getting burned on the counter attack, I would change my strategy up a little. I would tell my defenders to play deep and also not to play the offside trap at all if possible. Change your SBs to CBs and make them play against the sidelines, so they stay back and cover the wings well.

Also you can try to play with 2 DMFs... maybe like a 4 - 2 - 3 - 1 type of attack, or 4 - 2 - 2 - 2...

The 2 DMFs would clog up the middle area and the SBs that are now converted to CBs will guard the sidelines.

So to recap:
1. Try this formation: 4 CBs - 2 DMFs - 2 SMFs - 2 Strikers... feel free to experiment with the 2 SMFs / 2 Strikers, but keep the 4 CBs / 2 DMFs part intact.
2. Change your SBs to CBs by editing the formation
3. Tell the SBs (who are now CBs) to play close to the line by clicking on each one and pointing the arrow to the sidelines
4. Change your strategy so your CBs play as far back as possible (defending)
5. Change your offside trap strategy to not run the offside trap at all if possible

DISCLAIMER: I don't play with Barca, so I don't know how well this formation fits their personal but I think its a good formation to combat a fast counter attacking team.

I would use Messi on the wing and use him to either send crosses in or cut inside towards the middle and cause havock. I would try to run as much of your attack through him, but don't be afraid to switch to the other side if he starts shutting you down.

Let me know if you have any questions assuming you give this a whirl.

Whatever formation/strategy you decide to go with, practice with it a lot and have confidence in it when you play this weekend... stick with it and it will pay off I think... don't switch it up during the tournament.. I think that would cause problems.

Good luck!
