Newbie Q: How do you tell a Player's Best P

Hello.... I just finished my first season of ML and got a chance to get some cooooool new players...

My best acquisitions so far has been Fernando Torres and Ribery.

Here is my team:
CB Fulldrishe
CB Sirikael
SB Zoro
SMF Mizuno
DMF Konno
CMF Steve Davis
SMF Ribery
AMF Modric
CF Fernado Torres
CF Abgonlahor

Some backups:
CF Babel
SMF Barnetta
SB Ruskin
SB Gierson

My question: a lot of these players can play multiple positions, such as Ribery. How do I figure out what position is best for each player and then come up with a good formation?

I noticed when I browsed through the stats of Ribery, he is a side player, yet can play AMF. Should I use him as a SMF or AMF?

Fernando Torres is also stated as a side player, but can only play CF?

By listing as Centre/Side, it's under SKILLS. Both have side checked and centre empty.

Please help out a noob, thanks a lot.

BTW I live in the States where Football involves throwing . My Soccer/Football knowledge is relatively low. I did look up all positions on Google and found a pretty good picture. Thanks for all the help in advance.

One more... I set Ribery as the team captain, is that the right thing to do? (Since he is the best individual player on my team)

Does changing team captains affect anything?

I don't think it changes anything mechanical (ie: boosts a player's stats or whatever) but I do notice that psychologically it changes the way I look at a player. Doesn't make sense, but it means more when my chosen captain scores a goal in the last minute or makes a great challenge etc.
Ribery is a very versatile player, I think he can play as a wing forward, attacking midfielder, side midfielder and central midfielder. Due to his "side" star and his good pace, I usually play him on the wing, though.
Torres is always best as a centreforward, despite him "side" star.

I've just completed a season and a half (three transfer windows) and the best I could muster is (on the Xbox360):

The rest are the default players.

What level are you playing on, or is the PC version just easier to purchase players?

Ive been through one transfer window on PC on Regualr, getting my ass kick in the leauge left right and centre (but not bottom) and the only playes i got were Henrik Larson and D.Anderson (who ever he is? anyone wanna fill me in on that one lol)

I was thinking of getting Anderson (I think it's the same one). He's a defensive midfielder that used to play in Serie A with Venezia (I think). I'm not sure where he is now though.

To topic creator, when you are on the first page of your players stats on the formation screen at the top of the stats above attack, defence etc it will say the preferred position, hope this helps

I'm playing on all REGULAR settings.

I started the game with a "custom" team, which gives me 1000 points to choose a player. I searched and searched and came up with Fernado Torres, who costs 997. Torres is so fast that I can get around the crappy defenders to score goals.

Basically I set up my game plan to be "counter-attack". I have no chance controlling/driving the ball up the middle so I just use a long pass whenever I have the chance to Torres and let him do the rest. I was able to win the D2 Cup and that gives you a LOT of popularity/points. That's how I managed to get all those players after the first season.

I also just managed to get Veron playing as AMF.. and my god, he is AMAZING. Through passes never really worked for me but with him, scoring goals has been 10 times easier with his passing.

Can someone explain to me the difference between a SS and a CF??? I can't figure it out.. thanks.

thats the one, yer i bought him, quality player, scored a goal or 2 aswell, deff worth a buy if u dont have bigger names.

also worth mentioning im playing with the PES team, playes like Dodo and co not a custom team nor the real team, i think thats the way it should be (that is unless when u click origional team all there stats become as crap as pes team
