The Revolution seems quite good, but to really judge it we need some pics of some games which will hopefully come out at E3. I've already got a gamecube and despite the criticisms I like it because of the uniqueness of the games which hopefully the Revolutions gets.

I hope Nintendo doesnt lose its touch and keeps making unique games that only people with some style and artisticity like.

I used to own a gamecube but the only game worth having was Mario Kart Double Dash. Nintendo really do have to seperate them selves from this kiddy game console stigma.

The gamecube did OK for a while matching Sony and Xbox for games because they were being released on all three platforms at the same time but it didn't stop me getting rid of mine.

I have a Nintendo DS sat here gathering dust, I just don't use it. I'm not so sure I would buy a Nintendo console again.

Nintendo will come in a solid 2nd this time round, with the PS3 again coming in at 1st place, and the XBOX in at 3rd. The XBOX 360 isn't all that diffrent from the PS3 now, when you consider that the PS3 has better hardware, and better graphics judging by the videos that have been shown so far at e3. All XBOX has going for it is it's superior online service, that Nintendo might just end up beating this time round.

Nintendo's wi-fi system looks to be much more simplier, so it will not alienate casual gamers with routers, networking etc which I think was a major turn off for people looking to go online, in this generation of consoles. So instead of having your router and your PC and your Revolution all connected up and all that, the Revolution just features a built in wi-fi connection, like the DS or the PSP. No frills, online gaming. They've teamed with Gamespy aswell btw for the online service, so you know that you will have a reliable, dedicated online service. Also, don't forget the ability to download games to the Revolution from other 2 decades ago. That's right, throw away those NES emulators, because the Revolution will have the ability to download games spanning from the NES all the way through to the N64, straight to it's internal flash drive, or an SD memory card. There is also a rumour floating around that SEGA have gotten in on Ninty's act, and that all of SEGA game's will also be up for download on the Revolution.

Another point that Nintendo have going for them, that could result in victory for them is the much famed controller that everyone and their mother have been discussing ever since news of the Revolution got out. I don't know if any of you here have heard, but rumours floating around right now include:
3D Projection
Touchscreen
Gyroscopic Motion
Voice Activation
And lots of other kooky things that I can't quite remember just now.

Touch screen was brought into the fold when a guy called Reggie, who is head of marketing (or something like that) at Nintendo said that the controller would need to be able to function with every single Nintendo console ever released. Think about that for a second. How could one controller possibly include the functionality of 4 diffrent generations of controllers? Simple; a touch screen pad, with customizable layouts. This would also fit in with what the head of Nintendo said, about wanting to add simplicity back to games for the casual gamers. That games had become so complicated now that many casuals were becoming alienated with the video gaming industry.

Gyroscopic Motion and 3D projection have always been in the back of the mind of Nintendo. Hell, who can forgot the short lived Power Glove, back in the 80's?!

Ha just kidding. But alot has been said about the whole gyroscopic thing. It would also fit in with the head of Nintendo's statement about alienating gamers. What better way than to make YOU the character, and have YOU perform the motions instead of pressing some button on a controller? Another interesting point is that Nintendo filed a bunch of patents back in August 2004, to do with gyroscopic technoligies. Also, remember that NintendON video, with the headset and all that? There is even a rumour going round that it isn't actually a fake, and was really released by Nintendo to create buzz and hype, and to see what feedback it gets.

Whatever Nintendo have up their sleeves for the controller, it will be BIG. I can guarantee that. Many are speculating that we'll see it at the next e3, or at Spaceworld at the end of 2005. What we do know however, is that we probably not be seeing it this year at e3 :( Miyamoto has said himself that it is being kept under tight wraps, so that either Sony or Microsoft don't steal their "revolutionary" idea (Who can blame Ninty though? Look at all of the other ideas that Sony/Microsoft have stolen)

Another major point in Ninty's favour is the selling price. Right now the price being said is a measley $129! The PS3 is priced at $465, and the XBOX is priced at $300. I for one will definitely be getting the Revolution on it's release if it comes out at $129. Who else can say the same for Sony or Microsoft?!

Whatever does happen, you can be sure of one thing. VIVE LA REVOLUCION!

Ok, sounds great but how much is going to cost to download Duck hunt for nostalgia’s sake? Only to find that after five minutes you stop playing it because you realised how crap it is now and how far the games have come. Keep the emulators since it costs nothing!

It doesn't matter what gimmicks they bring out because the public will be pummelled with yet another onslaught of Mario world and Mario kart and Mario this and Mario that! I think I would like to pay the extra on an Xbox or a PS3 because of the modding possibilities rather than just another kiddie’s games console.

Good read though, where did you find the article?

I swear I wrote it. I'll paypal £50 to anyone who can "prove" I didn't write it. I don't see why you came onto this thread just to flame me and the console, just shows what a tit you are. Oh, and Ninty already have a bunch of 3d party developers onbaord for the Rev., so we'll be seeing alot more 3rd Party Games.

Anyway, I have more to say in regards to the design of the machine (to those who care ofcourse)

Gaming in general, lately, has been branded with a nasty stigmata. That is if you play games, you're a geek. When you add things like online gaming, and routers, and networks and ALL of that shit, it pretty much solidifies that perception it in the minds of the casual gamers. What Nintendo are trying to do is recapture that casual market. How? With a simple, intuitive controller, a simple, no frills online serivce, a SLEEK AS HELL machine, and a gameboy that doesn't look out of place in this world of I-pod's and MP3's etc (that being the GameBoy Micro ofcourse). Nintendo realised the mistake they made with the last design, so they've come up with something sleek, cool and attractive to casuals. That's waht their whole thing has been during e3. That's why they aren't giving out specs and all that; incase they further alienate the casual audience. So what did Ninty do? Put it in laymen terms. "It will be 2-3x more powerful than the Gamecube" BAM! That's it. That's all the casuals need to know.

The PS3 and X-Box 360 however, seem to be going to opposite way. First of all, the designs are anything but sleek and modern. Also, the specs of the machines don't really mean much to your average joe either. Things like HDTV outputs and all of that will do nothing for your average joe. Also, the prices come into effect here aswell. What do you think a CASUAL gamer is more likely to go for? A small, $130 console or a considerably bigger, much more expensive console? Exactly. The Ninty Revolution has two main purposes: To recapture the casual audience, and to hail in the revolution of console gaming with a Gyroscopic controller (which will then ofcourse lead onto VR in the coming generations)

Lokmad, the sales stats speak for itself though. If Nintendo have been targetting the casual gamer and will continue to do so, then why was the gamecube still outsold. To me it seems the casual gamers still go for the ps2 (stats don't lie, unless chronically manipulated) As for the hardware specs being of no interest to the casual gamer, I am inclined to not agree. Cos I mean when you talk something up as both Sony and Microsoft have about their respective consoles, they have grabbed the attention from a vast spectrum of games players. You mentioned the price of the ps3 and 360 being too high, but again, as with ps2 and X-box people were still buying in thier thousands, regardless.

The Cube was a good console, don't get me wrong, but as some have mentioned, that they seem to target a very small number of games players. I think we'll see that even casual gamers will opt for the ps3 simply because Sony have established them selves as top dog in the market, which will probably be followed by the 360, and the Revolution trailing in third place.

I realistically cannot see it any other way.
