Overall the reviewer doesn't sound too happy during the review, while You read. The first many lines he talks about it's not possible to compare different things with eachother. Some think Messi is the better player, while others think it's Ronaldo. Some like Obama and others McCain etc. With that he wants to state that you can't compare the likes of FIFA and PES - so any discussion in that manner is a total waste of time for both parts. What's the point really? If some like that and that game - then let them - you know what you like.

He states that if you make a transition directly from FIFA09 to PES09, then the tempo is "head-shakenly" high. The graphics and prensentation will seem rather "flat" and the menu's "unsexy". If you'll make the transition from PES09 to FIFA09 on the other hand, then FIFA09 will seem sluggish but more realistic. FIFA09 It will lack the ease and seamless gameplay with the ball that PES09 has. So the big question is: what do You prefer in a soccergame? What makes You happy?

Then he states that there's more intensity in the fight for the ball. The physics are much more present and realistic this time around. Shots are easyly defflected. The ball-physics are great and more realistic, so passing, throughballs and especially shots seem much more satisfying and true. It's easy to feel the difference of shotpower with the likes of Rooney, Pirlo etc. - they fire bullets of shots!

Passing has gotten a realism-overhaul as well. Many more bad passes will occur now, 'cos they'll happen if your player is out of balance, the ball is at his "wrong" foot and/or it's just because the player is having a bad day, since no-one can play flawless all the time.
The ref's seems to be a bit off, since they don't seem good to use the advantage rule. So many annoying stops will occure during play.

Then he makes the classic mistake to state that PES has stolen the BaL mode from FIFA. (Which in some way is true if you think about it - 'cos BaP/BaL is more than just having selected "fix player" for the controller). But he thinks it works better in FIFA, 'cos your teammates doesn't give you much attention in BaL. But he also states, it's because he doesn't have the patience to play friendly after friendly to end up being on the bench for a league match. He clearly thinks that Seabass and his team has some work ahead of them for this mode.
Champions League is awsome with all the right graphics, sounds and licences - but all in all it's nothing more than just another turnament like the Konami cup etc. Though CL is still something very special and therefore "more fun/playable" than other turneys.

He think that PES09 stands as strong as it does mainly because of the horrible PES08 - which wasn't up to next-gen standards. PES09 vs. PES08 doesn't suffer from lag (in general), it has better graphics and a much improved online - but FIFA09 still takes the crown in all those catagories hands down. Where PES09 shines better than FIFA09 is the ability to draw you in from the sofa to the virtual pitch.

His closing comments:
He thinks the feeling is better and the gameplay on the pitch is more fluid and consistent than in FIFA09. That's what it's all about. The feeling you get, the joy in your stomach, the smile on your lips. He thinks there are very good arguments for choosing FIFA 09, and that he understand those who chooses EA Sports' game. As he says: "Yes, PES 2009 is too fast. Yes, the players' legs look like drum sticks during replay. And yes, the onlinemode and the graphics are not as strong as in FIFA 09, but the gameplay on the pitch in return is much better.

He scores it 8 out of 10 overall (Graphics: 7, Gameplay: 8, Sound: 6 and Lastability: 8).
FIFA09 got: 8 out of 10 overall (Graphics: 8, Gameplay: 8, Sound: 8 and Lastability: 9).

'Cos there are so many pages to read through and you have a lot of sorting out to do, if you're in a hurry, like I am at work... ;)

So I just wanted to shortlist this thread down to actual reviews, and not a lot of OT discussions...:)

The official ps3 mag gives it a 9, the same as the fifa 09 score. It states that pes2009 is back to it's best. It states that fifa plays the best representation of football though, but also states because pro has not made enough changes thats why it fails to get a 10. It also says between the two games it is a tied contest.

What do you think Fiore?

Still - I haven't bought any of the games yet - that's why I'm vacuuming the entire web for informations! :D

So far I'm leaning towards PES09 - but as I've stated somewhere else, I'm a bit dissapointed in Konami, in that this is the 3rd installment on the Xbox360 - and still it's not really a "next gen" game improvement. Where as FIFA09 has taken huge steps into next gen, and really impoved from previous installments. Kudos for that in my book! ;)

What is stalling me from buying my first ever FIFA game is the fact that so many says that it'll become tiresome and repetitive after a few weeks, where as PES keeps growing on you the more you play it and easily last the whole year - as PES usually does.

Funny thing is: I started playing PES back in the ISS Pro Evo days on PS1 because it was more realistic than FIFA. Now FIFA seems more realistic (from the demos and all the reviews) - so somehow I ought to take the plunge to FIFA, right?

So now I'm waiting for Dan Bolas' review and comparison of the two games in "Interfering With Play" next week, so I can see what a long time PES-player has to say in the matter. Then I'll sort out what I find important in a game from what I read and then decide.

But right now I'm leaning towards PES - and somehow I don't think that's going to change. Afterall - I've played every installment of PES for many, many years - so it's hard to quit it. But then again: Love makes one blind…

Chose PES and you won't be dissapointed, you have almost 20 years of BAL, I beeve FIFA's BAP only lasts like 4. Download a decent option file & you'll find PES can match FIFA in terms of realism & licsenses, especially with the new CL mode. The gameplay is miles ahead of FIFA & it is just more enjoyable to play.

Suppose you're gonna want to hear froma real PES veteran though, I've only been playing since it first came to PS2, PES 3 0r 4 I think it was.
