Now that you mention it, I scored a volley today! Oh and they cant volley in each damn game. I like that, its much more realistic in my opinion. In WE7, I had Thuram Volleying.

Now, you lot are gonna go mental at what I wrote cause Konami can do no wrong apparantly, but I have bought every single Konami Football game since ISS on the SNES and this has left me feeling low, wanting to like something but simply cant ignore the faults.

Obi I agree with you. When I first played WE8 I was mesmerised by the fantastic new touches Konami had put into the game, the improved tackling etc, but I'm beginning to feel now that they are mostly surface improvements. Yep, the menus, loading times, player animations, long passing, numbers of teams, etc are all better, BUT....

IMO they've made the game too 'attack-orientated', its great that the CPU attacking AI is so much better, but defensive AI appears to be worse both on your own team and the CPU team. Goalie AI is still pretty shit, they make the hard saves but let in some of the easy ones. CPU gives away too many penalties. And in a way it feels more like a game of basketball, in that you can get from one end of the pitch to the other REALLY easily, with the strong short passes and accurate long passes. Sequences of one-touch passes are really easy to do, because there's always a player in space for you to pass to (the CPU marking in WE8 is not good, they always leave a player open for you to pass to). In PES3/WE7 you usually had to pause after receiving a pass, and take stock of your options before moving on, meaning you had to carefully work for openings - in WE8 it's just 'bang bang bang' all the way up the pitch, very easy to create a shot on goal. YAWN! In 20 hrs of WE8 play on 4star I'm finding it VERY easy to score, while after 500+ hrs of PES3 I still find it a bit of a challenge on 4star.

It's (dare I say it) getting more like FIFA... like pinball from end to end, the flow and 'structure' of the game feels less like real football. The players are always racing forward like they have firecrackers up their pants and IMO that's not what most football games are like. My edited PES3 (with marking stars to all defs and central mids) actually feels better. Maybe most people like the faster flowing WE8 style but isn't it getting like FIFA with some recognisable 'WE' tackling and passing thrown in?

And not to mention the slowdown...

For the first time in WE/PES series I feel a bit bored playing the game (can't believe I'm saying it). I don't know, they've done a lot of things really well (and I love all the bells and whistles, just wish I could have them with WE7/PES3 gameplay) but overall I prefer the gameplay of WE7. I think this is the first time since ISSPro98 that I may not buy the next installment (PES4) and that makes me feel very disappointed...Just my 2 cents...

share your deeper impression on the new series, socrates.
when i used to play WE7 i loved it for aiming it at a realistic level, that`s why i always used to play on 5stars and 30min/half time.
but in WE8 it`s undoubtedly become more action orientated. and the passing really goes bang-bang-bang. at least they improved the goalie from very shitty to an average level (overlooking the hard saves). and i think the 30min pass faster than real time (at least it feels unrealistically short). they just should put a 45min option for god`s sake!"!

Lol, I`d have to disagree on everything you socrates wrote. The only minor problem with WE8 is the slowdown which is possibly getting fixed in PES4 or it`s a must for WE8IJ.

Passing is so damn realistic, also you speak about that bang-bang- thing....did you ever see Arsenal play ?? the ball just flies, it`s so fast sometimes you get pain in your eyes that`s how fast it reaches from one side to another. Many people (including myself) said the same thing about WE8 like you did but after you realise some things PES3 , WE7 and WE7IJ are just frutcakes compared to WE8. WE8 feels nothing like FIFA, you can notice players do tons of animations and they move and feel like life-like. I also believe the players size is much bigger however, the pitch seems bigger aswell..Trust me what you played so far isn`t enough.

only pathetic players like socrates will say things like dat because he is only a 4* playa. Why dont u become a man and try the 5* or even 6* if it seems to be 2 easy 4 u.

Ive always wanted pes4 to have more fast and direct passes which were a bit let down on we7. so stop moaning and enjoy the game there are so many other things which will make up for it.

I think most gamers miss one of the important improvements in WE8, the improve "keeper's view" camera angle. Now we have lower angle, so wehave a much deeper view. So it's much more realistic when u need to rely more on flashes of you team color and the radar. I , like most WE fan, used to only use to wide angle cam, but it seem too easy since you can see the move of the whole team so easily.

Also on pes3 players like Ronaldo were unable to take on the slowest of defenders which was slightly unrealistic!!

if u get past sum1 with good pace, accel. and stamina theres no catching them! (unless ur running against roberto carlos or sum1 like him :D)

I just finished a Barce v Real match in the master league using the closest keeper's view cam, and it's so much more interesting. It more more realistic when u are shooting, tackling, building play, defending, cos you are facing more similar to what real player will face(just more, not exactly though...) I lose 2:1, earned a controversial penalty, and miss it in the injury time, amazing! a beautiful game!

Actually I think the biggest improvement they could make to WE8 would be to improve the marking, then most of my complaints would probably disappear. To me this is the most significant gameplay difference between WE8 and WE7. I love all the other improvements they've made tho'.

I don´t like the high amount of penalties for me, just finished a season with Feyenoord, 15 penalties. I guess the half would be more realistic. Only had 2 or 3 against me.

the biggest improvements that could be made.......power bars for the penalties ,throw ins etc.
focus more on defending and goalkeepin as the games seem to be based on attacking play ......eg. most of the stats and things are attackin based.....most great defenders in the game look shite becuase most of their stats are grey ...lucio,nesta etc.

No way..that`s one called Sky Camera. It`s too wide and too far.

No, the one that faces the goal, in a english patched version I have, it's called Keeper's cam or view or something. The only problem I have with it, is sometimes the radar map is horizontal, which makes it almost useless. I don't know if there's a setting for that.

I found the problem with is that sometimes when u start a new match, the game probably set it to the defaut direction, which is the normal cam, so it horinzontal.

But whenever this happens, I change the cam to any other first, and then change back to "Keeper" cam, the map automaticly switch back to vertical direction. Cos without the radar, it's impossible to make first time passes.

Go back to the benefit of the reconfigurated cam, compare to the earlier versions, is it now has a lower angle, i.e. closer to the ground, enough to give deeper field of vision. You spot the runs in front of you, and see the goal when u are just outside the box. When making long passes, I use the radar to locate teammates, so u have to be presides about power u hit the ball, which is also kind of like when you are playing football. There's much more to it.

I read an interview of the creator a month or so ago, in which he said the ultimate goal of his, is to make each gamer control only one player. So online play probably will be the next big thing in WE series.
