One thing I don't like about pes16...

What I do a lot is press R2 to quick stop, followed immediately by a tap of R-stick direction, and quickly press L-stick to the direction I wanted to quick burst. Is that what you mean?

Here are some examples of combination control with R2...

I didn't have to go through all my replays, when I have more time I will pick out nice specifics.

(Stick-in control @ 0:11+ this is what I meant by using R2 + R-stick direction AND R-stick pressed down - I know I said L-stick in my previous message that was a mistake, it's R-stick)

R2 combinations with R-stick and R1 - I often use L2 also.

I have more examples of close control combinations and deft touches but like I said when I have time I will trawl through the replays.

Thanks!

I think PES is a bit too fast, the ball physics could be improved and there is too much frenetic offensive play. I am very happy it's still ways, ways away from FIFA but I remember in the early PS2 days when I think PES 5 came out and it was a massive joy to play because the defense could prevent the offense - without it being "cheap".

They've made a great mix of the pes6 fast flowing fun football and all the next gen physics etc so there's more room for random outcomes and stuff.

This is really the true successor to 13

It is a bit too fast and as Ratmonkey pointed out the shooting is actually boring - and the defensive side suffers horribly as a result of the This is Football animation style. Everything seems a little too frantic but it looks good and plays well, if this makes sense.

Honestly, just moving the game speed down a notch and changing the controls to more manual passing/shooting, makes a big difference.

That's the first thing I did, game still feels wishy-washy, like I'm skating a little, dare I say it feels a little like early FIFA (circa 2008, honestly go check the videos!).

Shooting is just mundane. I press button, I score, doesn't matter where I am or what I'm eating, even got my dog to score - the scoring options are nice and the animations are a treat but physics just lack weight, the system lacks control and more importantly skill, you literally press shoot and you score, I've even scored a knuckle shot with only one press (how is that even possible?!? Divine AI intervention?), the overall outcome feels far too automated.
However, moving onto the positives, there a additional bits of animation for passing, shots, acrobatics and movement that are really great and there were some things that needed to be addressed from 15 and have been such as change-cursor speed and overall player reaction and although it still feels as though I'm being pulled away from the ball at times by that all powerful 'force' it's nowhere near as bad as 15. Also, the volleys/headers etc have greater variety and some of the build-up play is great to look at, but I can't avoid the problems .... the shooting, the poor defensive play, and the general feel just isn't right. It compels me to violently alt-tab and close.

Crap thing is when I go to play 15 now (which in my mind was better) I now miss those good things I mentioned in 16 so they now make 15 look bad - oh I wish I had never played 16 but how can I say no when a friend gave it to me for nothing?

I am worried about the direction because it (16) really feels a like cross between FIFA 2008 and THIS IS FOOTBALL! Worrying indeed!

Had they added all the good bits I mentioned from 16 and put them in 15 I'd be a happy bunny but right now I'm not.

Please don't hate me when I say that I think game is being more and more directed at younger players as a lot of stuff feels seriously dumbed down and replaced with more simplistic/direct irresponsible spam-style play.

LOL. Same thing happened to me. I hate this game the first couple weeks. Been alternating playing PES2015 and PES2016, and I thought PES2015 was better. I thought manual passing in 2016 feels weird. I thought defense is horrible.

But got used to the game already. Manual passing doesn't feel as bad as I though it was anymore as I already know how to pass properly. There's a difference in dribbling and receiving the ball in 2016 that makes passing a bit different than in 2015. But once you get it, passing in this game feels nice. The power of pass/shoot is a bit strong also, so you have to tap lightly for close manual passes. I don't use "Triangle button" at all, so I'm not sure how through ball works in this game.

When it comes to defense, tackles are so effective. It's arcadey but fine with me. One thing, player's momentum has a really huge impact on how you play defense.
So you have to be careful when to sprint, stop, change direction and use R2 when defending..

No problem, I hope some of them work which they should do given practice. Yeah, going to move up to Superstar soon. I've only a few games left in a season on Top player, so I'll finish it off first. I've only gotten a handful of really tough games on Top player and they were excellent games, but sadly thats a rarity. I hope Superstar is a big jump up in difficulty.

@ Rat monkey

Hi, how is your game going on Super Star LV, what do you think about this game on SS LV, is it easy than Top player or its challenging for you.

My take on SS LV is weak team is weak, and strong team is strong. I can beat weak teams (DF rating 60-74) more often than not by using a lesser team, but those teams (DF, MF, FW rating over 80) are quite tough to beat, I ve not tried using top teams playing against top teams yet, I think it should be easier because top players tend to run into space more than regular players do, which means more through ball opportunities. I found that lesser team players dont make runs when you expect them to move forward, only occassionally they do so. When playing against teams like Bayern, its more difficult for me to build up, as they can cut out your pass at times and their attacking efficiency is very high, one shot possibly will be a goal. Although occassionally I can use a lesser team to win Bayern 0:1 in an away game, form arrow all red up, but most of the time Bayern will give me a hard time.

Looking forwad to your reply, good luck.

I've only played 8 games so far. I think its harder than Top Player overall, but some games are very easy. I hammered Newcastle 6 - 0, but lost to Fiorentina 3-0 in the Uefa super cup. It still can be a bit easy to sprint through the center of teams from your own half. I need to play more of it to get more of a feel for what its like. At least I'm actually enjoying it alot more than Top Player. Top Player is a bore I found. Teams in the champions league tend to be harder to play. I use Arsenal, so it obviously makes it easier to play the AI on Superstar.

Against teams like Bayern I use counter attack with a deep defensive line and all out defense rather than front line pressuring. Front line pressuring cancels out your deep defensive line because your players stay forward to pressurise and keeps your line high. Using all out defense instead makes your team drop back and stops you being countered too easily with the likes of Bayern. I find this quite effective with teams like Bayern and Real Madrid. Especially with the amount of players online using them who just press throughball all the time. I keep pressuring aggressive though, because if you make it conservative it gives those teams far to much space to throughball the life out of you when they get in your half with the accuracy those teams have. It's alot easier to have a deep defense and counter attack with Arsenal though as they have very fast players to counter attack with. I haven't played the really big teams yet offline in Superstar so I don't yet what they're like.

Hi Rat monkey

Thanks for your information. Those tactics you mentioned against Bayern do make sense, I am not good at utilizing tactics against top teams, so still much for me to learn about tactics.

Good luck to your games.
