pass and follow

This is a very basic question. What the hell is the pass and follow by pressing R2? It says to "pass--->R2".... isn't that the same as the 1-2 pass using L1+X? And whenever I do try the "pass--->R2", nothing happens. Pls. clarify this for me. Thanks!

I've read about the run made by the passer after playing the ball. However when I tried it (on my Xbox 360 version) I just couldn't do it. So basically, if you want the player to make a run, just hold "L1 and press X". Just ignore the "R2" stuff, I always have.

Basically on the ps2 if you press x and then press R2 rather than both at the same time the player doesnt just make a run to recieve the pass back, he makes a run all the way up the pitch until the opposite team recieves the ball back.

Seems to work like a normal 1-2 to me. The point of it is so you can do a 1-2 from triangle, or circle passes as well, or just as an alternative to the L1 x 1-2. Anyone tried it with a manual pass? I ought to try that out.
