Penalties

Hello PES Community,

I've took quite a few penalties and have only scored a few which are only down the middle. Everytime I try placing it in the top/bottom corner it goes wide. Could someone please tell me how to take penalties properly.

Thanks. :)

I've only taken a couple. The first I didn't know what I was doing and went wide. The second, I watched the the following clip then hammered it home (credit to mzivhotmail):

I think it's purely luck of the draw as I've had a few penalties on PES 2010, I even scored one about 2 days ago in my League mode actually.

Good practice is to go into Training Mode, choose "Free Kick Training" or whatever it's called and place the ball in the area. It turns into a penalty then.

It works like this:

1) The length of time you press on the shoot button, the higher your player will kick it. Too long it'll spaz over the bar, tap it and it will be a shot along the floor. There really is a VERY FINE line between hitting the roof of the net or just skying it, but with practice you can get the feel for it just right :)
NOTE: Whilst holding the shoot button DON'T hold any direction AT ALL...

2) Your guy will then start his run up. DON'T hold ANY direction until your striker is about 1 step away from kicking the ball, Not Before! Again the length of time you hold it down decides how far to one side you'll kick it. And again, like the shoot button there is a VERY FINE LINE between hitting the inside corner of the net or it going miles wide. But once you do it a few times, it'll start to feel natural i promise!

3) Some players are better than others at taking pens too. This does affect whoever is taking the penalty at the time. You can check your player cards to see if there are any players with a "Penalty Taker" one assigned, this should help more also.

4) If you are playing on PS3(?) i would also suggest switching from analogue stick control to the D-Pad for penalties too as it seems to be easier to judge how long you have held the direction down for. With the analogue stick it feels too loose but with the D-Pad i personally feel more control over the penalty.

Hope this helps!

It certainly has my friend. I've been practicing what you said for around 30 minutes and I've kept a record (sad I know haha).

Here is the record:

Penalties taken: 44
Penalties scored: 33
Penalties saved: 9
Penalties wide: 2

From the above data it proves that I have obviously got the hand of the penalty taking. I rarely go wide and rarely miss. I mainly miss with the goal keeper saving the penalty. That in my opinion isn't so bad as penalties, for most people, is all about luck. You go to the right, you hope the goal keeper dives to the left, that's how it is in my opinion haha.

Thanks alot my friend. :)

You're absolutely right. In my opinion, this is the best penalty system since I started playing football/soccer games. Because you make the difference. Well, the player's skill also make a certain difference on the penalties, but not like on PES 2009 where the luck was making the difference. :)

I like the new system of penalties!
I think the best mode of shooting is, first pressing de shooting bottom and then selecting the direction with the analog when the player is running for the ball

but i dont like the camera when you shoot a penalty during a match :S
I think it is dificult if you shoot and also if you are the keeper

I am with you their their mate. The camera does put you off a bit but the shooting is quality, makes it more difficult and triumphant when you score.

Sometimes I forget that in a penalty kick during a match you have to press up or down for the direction, instead of right or left hehe! Result: Ends in a shoot straight into the middle of the goal hehe! Well, I do not dislike it and I do not love it. But one thing is for sure: I have to agree with you, mate. This really makes it more triumphant! :)

Penalties take a while to get used to, which is good, because it means you have to master a skill rather than the penalty technique featured in all previous PES's. However, what bugs me is the silly way that all players side foot the ball instead of driving one into the back of the net.

Hmm I know what you're saying mate. There may be a way of lacing the shots instead of placing, just like FIFA10. If anyone knows any information about this please inform us ASAP.

Thanks. :)
