Does it live up to expectation or is it another failed next gen attempt?

Give reasons for your answer and tell us whether PES 2010 is indeed a hit or indeed a miss.

Personally I think its a lot better than any other next gen PES and is starting to grow on me, I think this is the 1st next gen PES that will not have me going back to the glory days of PES 5/6

It defiently hasnt lived up to expectation. Its good but i feel the gameplay has little variety. The defences piss me off so much and the '360' movement doesnt allow me to make quick turns which basically means i cant run through a defence.
Online is what my main focus is on and the matches are pretty good.

^ Yeah me too. They're a lot different this year. They work, but they're a little difficult to master.
I voted "hit". I think it has improved remarkably. There will be the AI issue, but i won't waste my time on that since i don't think it's ever possible to make it completely 'realistic'.

Hit with room for improvement i dont know what the 360 shit is about but its annoying and the lack of fake shots i miss but over all the game is wonderfull. IMO

I'm not voting as I haven't played the full game. But if it plays anything like the demo, I'd be voting 'MISS'

I hope to get a pre-owned copy or hope that the PC price is quite cheap so I can give it a shot.

It's a total hit without a shadow of a doubt. Graphically it's sublime, the gameplay is brilliant this year too.

You have to learn to play the game properly to get the most out of it, the few games i have played online have been great too.

I must say the keepers at times have been very very good, and also they can be quite a let down too. I have applied an option file to update the teams and have now started a league (premiership), my second game in the league was against liverpool (i am chelsea). I lost the game 1 nil, but the frustrating thing was kuyt was a yard offside when he scored, and the goal stood.

I mean this was not even close, i could understand if there had been a few players in the box making it difficult to see for the linesman, but kuyt was on his own, i know it happens now and again in real football, but if this was to happen to much it would be a total game breaker.

honestly mate, it's worth it. i know the demo sucked donkey cocks, but the full game has really satisfied me. it feel like a proper sim again

I prefer the shooting on the demo. It seemed to have more 'kablamo' effect when you nailed it. In the full game it really has the medicine ball feel to it which doesnt help and the nets, oh the nets. Why do they make them sag? Obviously they think i jizz my panties just because the net ripples and bulges when i score but they need to get it into their fucking brains that the satisfacting from scoring comes from hitting the back of the net and seeing it almost burst trying to contain my shot and not to look like ive just caught a tonne of cod.

How can anyone say this feels like a sim when the speed of play is breakneck and completely unrealistic? That's what FIFA used to be when it was slagged off for being an arcade game.

Been playing none stop on ML and i love it, i mean i like FIFA it's more realism in movement and flow, but this PES isn't just pure run down the flanks (I think) im paying with players around 75 mark right now so unsure.

One thing i am annoyed at is, that when editing who i wanted in my league i couldn't get French or Dutch teams in it, and if chose to play in one of those leagues i'd have lost the Spanish or Italian teams to choose.

I really like it though. And in all honesty FIFA seems to have the buck now and to be fair lets see how long EA can keep fans happy year in year out because they will have to change aspects of it so it doesn't seem to samey.

I just love PES so it'll have all my attention although FIFA is a cracking game anaw.

Waiting....
Nowhere near as good gameplay as FIFA, but it's fun. After the first couple of games, I was fearing that they hadn't moved on from the demo, or the last game, but it's growing on me. I can only see myself playing Master League, though. For that reason, I should've waited for the price to drop quite a bit.

Definitely do not agree with this. The gameplay in PES 2010 is very rewarding and addictive experience much like older PES's. FIFA's gameplay after around 10hrs gets repetitive and well does not appeal to me as I feel like I have got the most out of the game.

I am pleased with the results of the poll so far, most people seem to recognize that PES 2010 is a massive improvement and does provide a satisfying game of football. I would bet that some people who voted "miss" would if they give PES 2010 more time would vote it as a hit. I remember vividly people initially criticising PES 5 for its response times as well as other issues. 4 years on and it is widely regarded as a classic PES.

PES 2010 like older PES's is a "grower" meaning it takes time to get used to, but once you do it is fantastic!

On the other hand while I thought FIFA 2010 was impressive when i 1st played it, now i can't think of any reason apart from the odd online game to play it again.

I think thats why some reviewers gave somewhat negative views of PES 2010 in regards to FIFA 2010. If they played both games for 30 hours I think different conclusions would be reached as to what is a better football game. Some reviews like that of eurogamer seem rushed and their score for PES 2010 seems somewhat unjustified.

Personally, I got used to the older PES's really easily, the gameplay mechanics allowed you to do some brilliant things, and the computer was quite good at lending a hand in certain aspects (compared to [imo] PES09's shoddy attempts at auto-tackling and clearing).

And that's what I loved about PES, it was easy to get to grips with and have fun with, but also offered that in-depth feel which made gameplay brilliant. I also loved PES1 so much that i didn't feel the need to get PES2 (mainly because I didn't have the internet or those PS2 mags, so I didn't know what would be new).

Everyone says that FIFA is a childish game and anyone can play it, but I always thought PES was easier to get to grips with because it made more sense and didn't glitch as much.

Right, got a bit off-track there. Does PES10 offer those easy-to-do things whilst being able to be played on a much deeper level?

its a hit and miss to me, although i voted miss..

i like some aspects of it, but the sheer frstrating factors may equal or be greater than the bits i like!

goalies
throughballs
referees (fouls on/off the ball)
pass responsiveness/pass direction lacking too.

online seems quite good low levels of lag.

Yeah after playing the game for a few weeks I have adjusted to these certain frustrations you have expressed.

Still it is far better than previous next gen efforts and with improved gameplay and masterleague it will be the 1st PES next gen to keep me going without going back to PES 5/6

Miss even tho its an improvement over 2009 i feel theres a fair bit of work for Konami to do.The dribbling on higher settings seems pretty poor and its very difficult to beat defenders, don`t get me wrong you don`t want it to be too easy but i feel they haven`t got the balance right.Com teams play like brazil and its a nightmare to win the ball back as they play like brazil yet have very few attempts on goal lol.Keepers are still poor and player animations when they are turning need alot of work as does the commentary.PES 6 on ps2 is still the ultimate football experience.
