I know this has become a cliche but I have been a PES Fan from the early days on the Nintendo 64. My most played game would defiently be PES 6 which I played for an unhealthy ammount of hours and got into the 2018/19 season on my Master League. So when I got my Playstation 3 I couldn't wait but obviously it was pure rubbish. I still played it for the Master League because Fifa, although had better gameplay, has Manager Mode which I disliked immensly. Then in the latter half of 2008 when I heard that Pes 2009 had Champions League I was already brewing up visons of Castolo holding the world reknowned trophy in his hands. Then Obviously konami didn't add this to the Master League. I did play FIFA 09 but wasn't overaly immpresed so continued with my Pes ML. Then after putting off Pes to get another Rubbish game Modern Warfare 2 this year, I finally got Pes at Christmas. And yes the Graphics were Immense on even my anicent non HD tv. The Master League At First looked amazing but was overall a step back. Basically I was Disapointed. Then two weeks Later I had £25 pounds to spend and found myself in Blockbuster randomly browsing and saw FIFA 10. I remember at the time thinking 'Might as well'. (It was ethier that or Avatar). So I got home put it in with my Expectations not very high at all but was shocked. It was amazing. I felt like I was watching Super Sunday, superb Presentaion brillant Motion Capture and overall class. It truely is the Best football game I am afriad. Anyways before I sound like a FIFA fanboy here is a comparison of the two games.

Presentation - PES 2010- Mind Blowing Graphics. But Lacking where it all matters. About 23/4 Stadiums , 8-10 footballs, shoddy kits but DID have a superb soundtrack. Overall: 8/10

FIFA 10 - Graphics not quite on the same level as Pes but still superb, the faces still don't hold up to PES's ultra-realistic models but still good, but where I personally think it matters most FIFA provides. The Endless ammounts of Stadiums, Footballs and Teams really do add to the overall feel of Realism plus the Badges on the kits and the speaker in the stadiums in a multitude of different languges depending on which country the Stadium is based in. Overall: 8/10

Gameplay- PES 2010 - Well Where do I start? In all honesty the next gen gameplay has never been as good as it was on the Playstation 2. If you compared Pes 2010 (PS2) and Pes 2010 (PS3) I personally think the PS2 Verison would give you a better game. The Animations are horrific. Unless PES revolutionize their Gameplay machine by next year it will look seriously outdated compared to 'the other football game'. PES is having the same problem fifa had in the last couple of PS2 years. From FIFA 2005 to 2010 on the PS2 the Gameplay System is Identical and this is overall the case on Pes with the Next Gen. It must Change it is no where near as realistic as PES 5! Let alone FIFA 10. Overall : 5/10

FIFA 10 - As good as it gets. Delivers a Ultra-Realistic match that isn't very far at all to the stuff played at 3pm on a Saturday all over the world. As revoulutionary for football games as Doom was for gaming on a whole. The Passing is smooth the animations flow ,yes shooting needs a overhaul but it is overall the best football game I have everplayed. Overall 10/10.

Game Modes- PES 2010- The First thing I do when I get Pes is create a ML and this year was no diffrent. I decided to make a Defualt team with the legends but couldn't the usal 'Create a Team One' So I had to pick some random players and create a random kit in the 'Other Leagues' section in ML. But when I finally got onto the Master League I found that PES had Scrapped all the stats for some crappy youth system that ruins your ML in about 3 seasons. The Most Random of names crop up after about 3 seasons and bamn all the greats are gone. The Champions League and Europa would have been awesome if the rest of the Master League had have been good. But It appears that PES have traded in there unique Master League for a poor Manager mode recreation. Utter Crap. The Online is unplayable as ever and in all honest the only redemable feature is the BAL and is the ONLY reason I go on PEs anymore. Fifa are yet to rip off this. Overall: 7/10

FIFA 10- Fifa has never been reknowned for its game modes. Manager Mode was awesome in 2004 but has been poor ever since and FIFA's only real contribution was the Be a Pro feature which was actually already on PES. And this year is no diffrent. Manager Mode is OK better then PES's ML but still not great and can be frustrating but Is for fanatic gamers the closest you can get for Rafa like Chairman pressure. The Virtual Pro offering is admitedly a load of crap. Hard to work out. But Fifa Comes alive when it comes to Online. Almost Lag-free 90% of the time and an aweosme 11 players on the pitch option. Plus the virtual pro can be used in A team which is also awesome. Overall: 8/10

The Final Score : FIFA 26(30) - 20(30) PES.

I don't know if I will buy PES 2011. If Konami dish out the same crap as they have for the past 4 years then I won't be buying. PES needs to realise next-gen isn't just about Graphics.

good constructive criticism BUT gameplay wise I think PES is better due to the fact that you can dribble the ball whereas in FIFA if you dribble you lose the ball within a matter of seconds. also PES is better than FIFA gameplay wise is due to the fact that the off the ball movement is better as players go upfront more.

But I disagree with your point about shooting in FIFA where I think that its near perfect and I hope that sort of sensitivity gets implemented in PES

I am not Saying FIFA has perfect gameplay, yes dribbling can be improved but I still think it is awesome. If you go on a run with Messi you will get past them and obviously FIFA's unlimeted database of tricks help too. FIFA makes you pass more. Which I personally think is more realistic. I mean goals in Premier League aren't all mazy runs stared from the half way line. I personally think PES has lost its fun factor whereas FIFA has gained that and still has the Realism.

I think you've got your ratings pretty accurate; I think FIFA's gameplay is probably a 9, just because there's too many random (and they are generally random, I can't think of any major repeated flaws) glitches.

I think you should have rated game modes and online seperately, as I don't have online, and therefore in my eyes, the game modes FIFA offers are very poor (but this is quite irrelevant as I just play my flatmates most of the time) while I do love the new Master League.

Edit:

"the only redemable feature is the BAL and is the ONLY reason I go on PEs anymore. Fifa are yet to rip off this"

FIFA had BAP a year before PES had BAL

Meh.

It's easy to be fooled by FIFA's animations and controls, especially with PES limping along like it is, but FIFA falls apart under scrutiny. The AI just isn't there yet, so games versus the computer become redundant.

It would be nice to have either series finally hit the nail on the head and put out a rock solid soccer sim, one that captures all the depth and glory of the beautiful game.

Im sorry I disagree. I finally bit the biscuit and bought FIFA off ebay - only cost me 15 quid so I though sod it. Anyway, the gameplay drives me mad! I am not saying that PES is perfect but one thing - its interesting! You can beat players, games are exciting, I find FIFA boring. The games are too tight. The learning curve is ridiculous. I started on professional and had the assisted settings on - too easy. Take the assisted settings off - boring game, no goals. Set it to World Class all assisted settings - too bloody hard! And dont talk to me about CPU cheating on PES, I can cope without penalties but all the CPU does on FIFA is pray on mistakes, no actually good goals. The crossing is pathetic, the corners are pathetic and the ball physics are all wrong...cross a ball and its flies miles away from the area and if it bounces its like a rock skipping across water.

There are some really good points about FIFA dont get me wrong but I am seriously thinking of selling up after 3 weeks!

With all possible respect, what utter bollo.

Like buying a car because it's red....

The gameplay is, or at least should be, the main thing. And FIFA has always been utter kack in that department. Utter utter cack, in fact

If fifa had better ball phycis and player indivduality it would be really good and if they worked on there graphics becuase they have gone down hill a bit like players hovering in an invisble tunnel which kind of takes the piss and player faces look appauling but player modles look decent. Plus fifa has a lot of stadiums which fifa lacks.

BELIEVE
Got to agree with Maximopex and dan80 here. I've been a lifelong PES fan, since ISS98 in fact (which I still own as a prized possession). However, since converting to "next-gen", Konami have struggled massively. They got it perfect just about with PES6 on Xbox 360 in terms of gameplay, it was really solid at the time of it's release with a lag-free online mode, but single player lacked due to a complete lack of edit mode believe it or not. Ever since PES6, Konami have failed miserably in recreating any form of past glory. Even FIFA struggled for years on "next-gen" I believe, I purchased FIFA 09 after becoming bored of PES 2009 (I did play it a lot mind), but was disillusioned with the whole FIFA engine and quickly sold the game.

Upon PES 2010's release I loved the game, genuinely and thought it was excellent, it finally had a good depth of options including CL, BAL, ML, Editing options were finally increased including boot packs. But it soon wore thin, as PES has done the past few years. I eventually stumped up for FIFA 10 and have been impressed with it for the most part.

FIFA 10 is far from perfect, with the shooting a little off and the ball physics very questionable at times ("did the ball really just swerve that much?"). However the actual gameplay is solid with passing being such a delight, it really makes the game of football fun to play again - while being somewhat realistic as well. I always preferred the slower paced more tactical aspect of PES over FIFA's basic options, but now the roles are slightly reversed with PES running 100mph with FIFA 10 encouraging more methodical build up play. I admit sorting out tactics for FIFA 10 I find a real hassle, and with no help in the 3 page instruction booklet it's completely stupid considering EA are trying to reel in Konami's fans. But FIFA has become everything I adored about PES: no great emphasis on graphics or otherwise as the primary aim was to nail the gameplay, which EA have done, and now the roles are reversed, as PES is the glossy graphical game with great player likenesses and consequently lacking in the most important aspect; the gameplay.

Well lets be honest, Fifa's gameplay is better if not more realistic then Pes'. I prefer realism on a whole and extra stadiums and the right kits adds to this. Plus isn't the editing and making the right kits all part of the fun in PES? Idk :p
