Look at the way Podolski is running onto the pass. That's a perfect example of what I keep banging on about in this thread. Just runnind in a pre-determined line. It really irritates me (as you may have noticed )!

Yeah it is predetermined but it will always be like this. I understand though what you mean but if the computer didn't make these predetermined runs for us then there would be no movement whatsoever.

What I like about this demo is that the player has alot more control than its predecessor. In PES 2012 I always feel like I have to rely alot more on the computer positioning players alot more. I do not like that feeling, I like to feel like I have control. It felt like I always fighting against it and of course I would never win. This is definetly a step in the right direction for me.

What I also liked about the demo, you can actually tackle and barge Ronaldo off the ball... I know the guy is strong, but in PES2012 he was a quick guy with the strength of RoboCop!

Oh aye, the tackling is VASTLY improved, the analogue stick for applying pressure works and AI players no longer walk right through you. That was a major flaw with PES2012.

The player should move where you tell him to, not where the computer tells him to. A little guidance is ok, but having no control is unacceptable in my book.
Like when you want to take the ball in your stride, which will set you up with a great chance, the pre-determined run will make the player take the ball out wide, thus your chance is gone.

Agreed. That's the main reason I stopped playing PES last year, getting angry and at £40 a controller, I couldn't afford it...

I also like double tapping X to manual tackle, I feel as if I'm in total control of my players, exciting stuff.

I think thats why I enjoy it Iron, it harks back to earlier PES games, I like that, I consider it a plus not a minus. I think if you're used to the aesthetics of FIFA this game certainly isn't for you.

I can understand that. I know you like arcade racers more than simulated racers. But it is not really not FIFA aesthetics I am talking, it is more lifelike game play of movement of FIFA. Players run in more than 8 directions on the real pitch. So my point is almost that I could attach my old PS2 to the TV set and save 40 american dollars this year if I want that. Either way we will have to apply an option file if we are into real rosters/kits as I am. Although I do feel I will likely by both PES and FIFA (I wasted $40 on much worse things in my life).

I am probably not to used to either, but if my teammate starts a run and encounters a defender I want him to alter his path around the defender to continue (FIFA) instead of simply slowing and clogging up next to the defender (PES) because their is no programming set to get around him. As a Madden player, if my running back simply ran straight forward with the ball instead of juking or changing direction to avoid a tackle I would be upset as well. That is why I wouldn't play Madden on PS2.

Well there is the R3 run but even then you have no say over were they decide to make that run. How would you go about addressing that issue though? I mean without making it to complicated. Faster cursor highlighting? It is true though we still have to rely on the computer AI particulary with runs.

The R3 run was useless for me in PES 2012 you would click it on the player to make the run and your player controlling the ball would decide to lollipop. That got really old it was too easy last year to do that when you wanted to make a player run into space. Another problem with the R3 runner was that sometimes when you had plenty of men forward it was hard to highlight the specific player you wanted to make the run into space.

I did find R3 difficult on manual and auto. I wish I could master it because it is a nice tool to have in the box. I only tried auto last night and felt about the same as 2012.

I know, a few people are fussed by the lack of 360 motion, but I've got to admit It's not a game breaker for me. Its a simple a game focusing on simple aspects to make it enjoyable. I think if they really tried to imitate FIFA and go head to head with it in all that EA does for that brand they'd fail miserably. I think by returning to the core elements of what made PES6 successful they've offered someone like me a more sedate and enjoyable footie sim.

On the other hand, I can see why people are frustrated at the lack of FIFA in it if thats what they're used to. I could never buy into FIFA so in terms of the two brands, I don't feel I'm really missing out on all that much.

I have no quibbles paying full price for this on pre-order, I think providing the code isn't altered too much this will be the most fun I will have on a PES ML for many a year.

Just to clarify, I'm actually talking about when you're supposed to have control of the player, when the cursor is over him. Just try this - play a through pass down the wing, when the cursor appears over the player running onto the pass, don't press anything.... he'll still run onto the pass. Do the same when trying to intercept a through pass with your defender.

See for me, I see these 2 franchises as is.

PES is the more arcade route but built firmly on fundamental basics of the game.

Fifa tries the more realistic route and tries to replicate what you see on the TV in all aspects of the game.

Only thing IMO that has made Fifa far better this gen is it's execution of what it tries to accomplish.

PES simply lost it's way after PES 6 but this new PES 13 could be what old fans have been waiting for.

I have no doubt Fifa 13 will also be awesome and thus I will likely be buying both for the first time ever. Was always PES before and Fifa this gen but now I can have the best of both. Assuming that the full game won't be ruined in any way

Indeed that is one big issue pes has, and is not fixed this year still, so far and probably won't be.

However truth be told they did fix alot of issues from before and the game is no doubt much better than pes 12.

Why do you guys keep on bringing up the runs in FIFA, saying they are good? THey are awful. Players literally only run in a straight line ahead of you..

PES 2013's off the ball movement is much better. Just hold the ball up and see the many varied options the AI creates for you through the different runs it makes. It's superb, and one of the main reasons I am very excited for this iteration of PES>

Sure, it isn't perfect, but this is one of the earliest demos of a football game we have ever seen - they have time to fine tune.

Of course.

Both games are too arcadey. Fifa revolves around ping pong passes, cheap tactics and stupid celebrations. To call it realistic is laughable.

I think the demo's great, and if the final game is the same then i'd be more than happy. The demo is probably the best football game around at the moment,

I think it depends on who you play against (as no matter what game you play people will do anything to win..Cheap tactics, cheat etc etc) Me and Iron have some great games on Fifa, we play proper football not just hoofing it up field to the fastest member of the team. As for celebrations I personally think they're great alot better than watching the same cutscenes over and over.

This is actually supposed to be a big part of Fifa 13. The New Physics based runs of A.I sound pretty awesome and if executed well should make a massive difference.
