The player should move where you tell him to, not where the computer tells him to. A little guidance is ok, but having no control is unacceptable in my book.
Like when you want to take the ball in your stride, which will set you up with a great chance, the pre-determined run will make the player take the ball out wide, thus your chance is gone.

I see, I get you now. I have never really had a problem with this issue. I just see it as part of the game. It has been around since day one. It can be frustrating at times especially if you over hit a pass and you know you can get there but the computer has other ideas. Super cancellation used to work a treat for such an occassion but it has been made redundant somewhat.

at first when i played the demo I thought... WTF this is PES 2012 version 2 or something.... I was about to turn it off but I didn't.... I played it a little longer and noticed the differences. The graphics look the same, except the players and field look bigger more like in PES2011. Gameplay while similar to PES2012 is slower, you tend to have better control of your players, passing is good, similar to 2012 but shooting is improved 10000000000000000%, you actually control the direction of your shot in a more traditional way. I find the demo to be more a reincarnation of PES2011 with the new perks they put into 2012 like off ball movement etc... So far Im happy, after playing it for a few games I went back to online 2012 and it felt more robotic and too hectic and fast. Lets hope they keep improving the demo until the game is out and not ruin it like they did 2012.

I think it depends on who you play against (as no matter what game you play people will do anything to win..Cheap tactics, cheat etc etc) Me and Iron have some great games on Fifa, we play proper football not just hoofing it up field to the fastest member of the team. As for celebrations I personally think they're great alot better than watching the same cutscenes over and over.

Ok, maybe it should read:

Fifa is full of dickheads who abuse the flaws in the game, and celebrate like twats every time they score a flukey goal, but every now an then you might get a decent match. (Please note, you can also substitute 'Fifa' with 'PES' and the same will apply... except for the celebrations part ;))

Have to agree on the celebrations. Gets annoying sometimes. really wish they would remove it from the online portion of the game.

Agreed. That's the main reason I stopped playing PES last year, getting angry and at £40 a controller, I couldn't afford it...

I also like double tapping X to manual tackle, I feel as if I'm in total control of my players, exciting stuff.

can you explain these new tackling systems? double tap X and the analog stick tackle as mentioned by someone? I've played the demo but basically tackling like in 2012

KONAMI has really no clue about stats.

cover star or not Ronaldo shouldn't have a better stats than Messi lolol.
Ivanovic has horrible stats, David Luiz for example is much better than him, so stupid.
Germany overall is ridicilous compared to some other national teams.
Xavi and Iniesta way overrated lol, they are good but not almost as good as Messi.
Dani Alves 95? lol.
Also Puyol is way overrated, 93 lol.

etc..

Also when you go to individual player stats you see how stupid they are.

For example Messi has same passing stats as alexis sanchez, ridicilous.
Then on another note Messi also has 99 shooting accuracy? wtf?

When u look at Ronaldo he has only 87 top speed, wtf again?

most of the stats make no sense its like KONAMI has no clue about players.

if the player is on Barcelona they will be overrated.... Funny you bring this up, Sanchez was on Udinese in pes 2011... his overall stat was I believe 72... last year on Barca he was mid 80s bogus bs!

When you double tap X (PS3), the player that you're in control of puts a foot in, much like what Fifa implemented in 2012.

Why do you guys keep on bringing up the runs in FIFA, saying they are good? THey are awful. Players literally only run in a straight line ahead of you..

PES 2013's off the ball movement is much better. Just hold the ball up and see the many varied options the AI creates for you through the different runs it makes. It's superb, and one of the main reasons I am very excited for this iteration of PES>

Sure, it isn't perfect, but this is one of the earliest demos of a football game we have ever seen - they have time to fine tune.

willl have to disagree with the most of the first two paragraphs. If you mark an off the ball CPU striker in FIFA12, you might chase that player all over the field, in semi-circles, zig-zags, changes of direction, the CPU tries to step in front of you in the box, they pull a swim move to get around you, CPU jukes like its going to make a run but doesn't and gets open for a quick pass because I was faked. so much more stuff going on. None of this in PES, none of it. Important to note I don't think FIFA12 is perfect by any means but there is more realistic movement going on.

I still have not taken enough time with the demo to see enough runs, but I know have only witnessed 8 cardinal directions with no alteration along the way

Well I am in Division 1 and have played hundreds of games, and that simply isn't true - the AI players are ridiculously easy to mark, and even if your opponent tries to send them on runs, they just go in a straight line and continue to run even after being well offside.

I haven't played this game enough to comment on whether the AI of marked players specifically is much better in this instance. But I can say, that the general movement of your team and that of your opposition is much more organic and leads to much more chances - DESPITE the fact that the defensive AI is about 5,000,000 times better than that of FIFA. Which says it all really..

the only thing that ruins the demo for me is the fact that it feels more robotic than PES12. if this is sorted by the 2nd demo then konami will of created the FIFA killer. if not then it will just be a very good alternative

You say the gameplay feels more robotic, but how do you mean? I find that strange because I happen to have noticed the gameplay is actually less robotic than in 2012.
2013 gameplay to me seems to be much more flowing, e.g. passes, shooting, and dribbling look much more natural.
Only my opinion, but I just can't see how this demo is more robotic.

Is it as overly-complicated as the R3 off the ball runs?

No, it's very intuitive

Am I the only one that DIDN'T enjoy the demo?

You only played a few games though..

I also think with so many flaws fixed, the one you always moan about can be fixed for 2014, but for now, super cancel is your best friend

I give up on manual shooting, i've missed two open goals :|

Emphasis on the word "can". There's many things that Konami "can" fix for next games, but they're too lazy and too stubborn to do so. Will player lineups be up-to-date on release date this year, or at least patched immediately? There's probably only a 30% chance.

I've played enough games to tell me that I won't be getting 2013 if that demo is any representation of the final product.

Judging by the amount they have fixed this year, it could happen. It depends where their priorities lie

Well, there's a 2nd demo so we shall wait and see

You know what irritates me? When people say they can play "proper" football in Fifa. I mean really? :eek:hmy:

So proper football for you is when you abuse the strength (which is hugely Overpowered in Fifa) and speed of players while players like Pirlo which aren't so strong or fast become uselsss. I ask, is that realistic?

Or is it when you can mostly score with the Overpowered R2 curl? Or maybe realistic in terms of goal variation? I scored all there is in Fifa. All 5 of them. But seriously, it pisses me off when people say that they can play proper football on a game where you cannot because it is fundamentally flawed to begin with.

If you'd just came here and said you had a great time on Fifa, then it would be your opinion. But playing proper football on fifa is impossible. Remember that last year I didn't get pes 12, I only got fifa 12 and it was the biggest mistake of my life. EA had a chance to murder Konami after Fifa 09 (which was actually good to a point), but each year, instead of focusing on the good things, they continue to f*ck up the AI and make their strength battles shine even more.

2012 is much more robotic... I noticed this after playing the demo for a few games and then going back to 2012. The difference is rather shocking and it made me want to turn the game off.

Some more crazy stats from KONAMI.

Kompany is only 87. Chiellini is 91, Thiago Silva is 96.
Giggs is 87 aswell, way overrated lol.
Silva is 89 while Aguero is only 87.
Tevez is 87, according to KONAMI Teves is as good as Aguero, lol.
Terry is 91, David Luiz is 86, meanwhile Ivanovic is only 76.
Arteta is better than RVP.
Gomez is not even 80, srsly?
Messi is 98, now while that is good Ronaldo really shouldn't be better than him in any case, and Iniesta, Xavi, Alves etc... shouldn't even be close, come on, Messi is by far the best on his team and he has carried Barca last season all by himself almost, yet Xavi is only 1 point lower, Iniesta 2 and Alves 3.

I know overall stats don't tell the whole story but they are still ridicilous, and when you go into individual stats its even more ridicilous.

Cristiano Ronaldo has 97 dribble accuracy!! LOL, 97 dribble accuracy... rofl.
Meanwhile he only has 87 top speed, Walcott for example has 97.

KONAMI really has no clue about players, seriously when I get the full game im going to have to edit EVERYTHING based on how PSD has it, this is crazy.

Are you really criticising the player ratings in a demo that has come out three months before release?
