pes2 was great, but pes3 was for me the most realistic, fun, & balanced football game game ever created, it was great fun playing against friends & the only version that i enjoyed the most playing ageinst cpu ( unlike playing pes5 against cpu) i did play that game the hole year, i don't remember i played any game so much in my life,
so for me has to be pes3

I think that although the game has got more realistic each year, it has got less fun and captures less of the football atmosphere since PES2. When i bought PES4, after a few games i was so disgusted with the gameplay that i went back to PES2, when PES5 came out, it was a marked improvement on 4 but still wasnt as fun as the early games. I would say for enjoyment, it is 1, 2 or 3 but not 4 or 5.

pes5 is the best so far, very closely followed by pes3. I still cant always score in 1-on-1 situations in pes5.

got to be pes3 for me the most enjoyable out of all, i have all the series and if i put pes1 on i can't even score a goal

its maybe onley me that hated this version (pes5) to deth, especialy playing against the cpu was a nightmare, so i had to stopt playing the game
