PES2008 Edit Mode "Drastically Reduced"

OldFirmBlue

Ibrox Veteran
* Edit mode on the next gen has been drastically reduced as expected:
* Only 9 sets of boots to choose from and kits styles are also limited to a set number of patterns

Without sounding like a "whiny bitch", noticed this on http://www.winningelevenblog.com/....

Why was it expected for the Edit mode to be drastically reduced? :erm:

Surely with the extra storage on Next Gen consoles, it should have been increased?

Any explination?

Apparently there are only 12 kit templates.
It is a little dissapointing but I mostly care about the gameplay there is no sense in getting all pissed about the lack of hairstyles, boots, kits etc. Its the gameplay that has made WE/PES what it is.
The editors and option file makers do a great job anyway.

is LOST
The 12 kit templates will be more than enough, i cant think of more than 12 different styles of shirts, though i could be wrong

Oh noes, now you won't be able to style Ronaldo's hair to match its every little imperfection.

Dont matter how petty the details are that Konami have decided to leave out...

It is a pretty arrogant show from them to give the game 70% of their efforts and still sit back and watch the hit reviews and the sales records come flooding back in...

Seabass seems to think the game engine is perfect......

.....Its a great fun arcade kick about......and the best footie game around....

...........But its far from fucking perfect......He is obvioulsy happy to sit on his laurels and continuing to tweak the engine; add new features, take old ones away, then add them again for the next release......This smacks of a fucking scam........

I would like to see Seabass retire and pass development of the series onto a more ambitious programmers with the motivation to take the game to a new level instead of the contstant barrage of tweaks and minor modifications to the gameplay

That is very rude to say.

Very rude, but he offers a valid point.

I'll comment more after I play PES2008, but there doesn't seem to be much more added from one version of PES to the next.

According to an article in www.winningelevenblog.com it states that the editing is limited. Heres the paragraph :

I was like a kid in a candy store when Michael booted up the game on a PS3, connected to a nice 40inch Sharpe TV. After seeing him (and me for a bit) getting beaten by Germany playing as England, I took the opportunity to take a look through the menu's and familiarise myself with the new look. My main interest, like many viewers, was to check out the editing functions available this year. Unfortunately it wasn't what it was lived up to be, editing wasn't a step up from the current gen options. Sure there's the ability to scan your own face in and pop in logo's & sponsors of your favourite unlicensed teams, but the basic functionality just wasn't there.

First off the 9 boots that we've seen are all whats on offer. Along with that the preset boots can't be edited. In PE6 on the PS2 you could at least create boots that resembled other brands, not this year on next gen I'm afraid. Then when checking through kit editing options I realised that the amount of preset designs to choose from have dramatically been decreased. Lets hope the new sponsor/logo import feature makes up for this.

This is a pretty recent version of the game. There's more to the article stating that the gameplay is better than the demo. Its been slowed down and golies are better. Read it for yourself :p.

I wont be buying the new release, not until I find it for a bargain on amazon or elsewhere. As stated above, there has been little to no effort put into this release. WE2007/PES is still plenty of fun and the issues I have with it are still present in the 08 version.

Unfortunately there is NO other option. This series had the potential to be as close to a real "sim" as possible, but they chose to head in the easier "arcade" direction. Hopefully they get this turned around, it isnt completely ruined yet.

Cheers!

P.S. That same site now has a video of gameplay on the PC. Cant tell if it has been slowed down, but the teams arent available in the demo.

Hang on, hang on. That review was about the PS3 version wasn't it? Does that mean that you can also put your face in the PS3 version?

If you can do that then I wouldn't be bothered if there was just one kit template and one bright pink pair of boots.

Just download a bootleg copy...

If they aint gonna bother their arse developing the game why should the consumer pay £30 time and time again for the exact same game with a few mods and gameplay tweaks?

Bootleg Multiplayer will be an option also using Hamachi.

PES2008 is still gonna be the best soccer game around...but fuck Konami and their arrogance...dont fund their scams.

I can't believe some of you.

I play the game as I enjoy playing football games against my mates over a few beers. I couldn't give a fuck if Fabregas is wearing Nike boots when it should be Addidas'.

I don't see why any of you do either.

hows bootlegging the right way to go?you take funds away from konami they have less to develop the next installment, then less, and if everybody bootlegged it guess what, there wouldnt be a PES2009 thats for sure.as for the boots thing i love my boots and i dont know why there cant be a simple edit mode and 100s of slots for storage, but so long as i can change what players wear i should be content.plus i can make myself so that makes it all bettre

and generally PES has always been arcady thats why most like it,its easy to pick up and play, unlike the slow perhaps more realistic but definently alot more boring FIFA so quit whinging god dam

For things like that....I am 110% with you. But the neglect of all those little things to me is indicative of Konami's arrogance about the series.

Seabass is on record as saying he believes the game engine is PERFECT.

It is far from fucking perfect but so long as the rave reviews and the sales continue to flood in, the dev team are unlikely to address some pretty glaring gameplay flaws and presentation flaws.

For example, I assume you are playing the demo right?

How shite is the crowd sounds?

How shite have the crowd been in every PES game ever?

But how fucking class are the sounds in the tommsen patch for the demo and various other sound patches over the past few years?

If 'Tommsen' can knock together a shit hot patch to enhance the 'atmosphere' of the games, then surely Konami can do crowd noises just as well, if not better. And if they cant then they should chuck Tommsen a few grand to come up with the goods..... There are no licences for authentic football crowd chants. Konami's only excuse is that they are so arrogant about their game that they deem minor presentation details as somehow beneath them and unecessary, which is probably the same view they take to the glaring gameplay engine flaws which is what really pisses most fans off.
