PES5 Impressions thread

You have a right to voice your opinion

Hello Moffatt.
Of course. You have every right to hold an opinion. I certainly won't insult you or your knowledge of football.
I'll start with the passing and work my way from there.
As for Jamie Carragher passing forty yards and Beckham struggling to pass four yards to the person next to him.. Well i have seen this on the series and indeed the PES5 game. I've found the passing quite simple and the style of the game suits a continental approach. If you apply too much pressure the cpu either goes down softly and you concede the freekick or it just whacks the ball out. So its best to build the passes up.
I struggled with the first few matches. Because the dribbling and control method has changed slightly. Once i had a few games under my belt The player your controlling doesnt always take that extra touch and i have noticed that with certain special players such as Ronaldinho, Zidane etc they have the ability of excellent control as you'd expect from International Football Stars. You can use R2 i think for your players to do quicker turns and it really does help. As for the player waiting for the ball i strangely havent come across this.. like i say i use the manual overide on most occasions and control the ball quite well.;)
I am not trying to deflect your opinion i am just sharing with you the experience i have had in my first week of pes5.
It is agreed that there will be aspects of all video game football that will need changing. And no matter how perfect someone might think konami make video games it will never be as realistic as football on the field with your mates.
Just my thoughts

My 1st impression of PES5 is that I'm just not finding it very fun... win , lose or draw it doesn't matter.....

It seems that while PES4 was the crass but exciting English Prem , PES5 is the cultured but dull Serie A ....... I know which one I would rather watch ......

pro evo 5 isnt mind blowing but online it is a lot of fun.
the through balls are too fast. we need the master league scraped and proper leagues thrown in. a proper season. the game needs to be slowed down alot, we8 style. there are a few things that konami have done that has baffled me, the shooting seems to have gotten better and worse at the same time if that makes sense. pro evo 5 is still a great game but how much longer can we put up with. at least fifa is trying to make the gameplay better and i do hope they succeed because theres nothing id like to do better then play a proper season for once with wolves

 Some nice posts guys.
I think they have done quite a good job with this one it's just about adjusting your formation and playing style.
iv'e been playing it since european release date and im in the hang of things now.
Dont get me wrong Moffat i do play football myself and some physics just dont look right , but hey just be glad with how far we have got for now mate.
;) This is just the beggining "technology elvolves but so do we".;)

I think PES5 is now the footie game to play with loads of mates rather than a game to compete against the CPU...i find the game rather unrealistic in some respects and the same problems are there to annoy me again....

i mean Hyppia keeping up with Henry?! I don't think so...there still needs to be more distinction between the players with regards to their stats...coz it doesn't show when you play....

and when i'm trying to change player, it cycles through everyone excluding the one nearest the ball!!!

minor issues to be fair but very annoying

but this is just my opinion...

Ok i have not heard anyone mention this maybe they have in another thread but who plays on a waidescreen and who on a normal.
I am asking this because the gameplay seems faster and smoother on a widescreen so yall who are complaining about gamespeed i bet youre using normal tv's.

I suggest for best qaulity in my opinion play on a widescreen.

:D

i'm using a 20 inch LCD widescreen tv, at the NTSC 60hz framerate...so i don't think the speed of the game is affected by the tv that i'm using...

i just think that there is a blatant lack of difference between the pace of players...its just something i've noticed and i'm sure a lot of you have noticed too

i'm a big fan of the pes series and was expecting great things from pes5 but i'm a bit let down by it.

Moffatt - i agree with everything you said, in particular the part about the players speed. in football, teams will use players speed to exploit defensive weakness's, in pes5 you can't beat the slowest of players.

even thought there are a lot of faults with this game i still enjoy playing it. the thing i love most about pes5 is the satisfaction you get from scoring, something that i don't get from pes4 anymore, because you have to work a lot harder to get on the scoresheet.

yeah but dont you feel you get better games when you play on widescreen as i have played on both and when you play on a normal tv
like my friend has it seems slower:unsure:

to be fair you may be correct.....i don't have a normal 4:3 tv in my house so i can't make a valid comparison...so u may be right...

After two weeks i'm getting used to PES5, still stuck on 4* and still find difficult to win matches, that's unusual as last year i was already palying on 6* and the same on PES3 after two weeks playing it. For me difficulty is perfectly adjusted.

As I've said, i'm getting used to the pace, the passing (long, short passing), the different ways of controling of the ball after a pass, the tactics and strategy that have become relevant for me, the shooting...
It can sound repetitive but for me is the best game of the series by far, miles away improved from PES4 in my opinion, (maybe PES4 is the worst game in the series) so Konami has worked right this time.

I ENJOY every single moment of the game.

Speed is not an issue in PES5 guys.
If I have Henry or Robben,a player like Hyypia is never going to keep up with them.
I don't know what u guys are talking about. Fast players are really fast in this game and certainly much much faster than defenders.
In PES4 the "catch-up" problem did exist but not in PES5.

The game has been improved vastly I think. Its true the catch up feature for defenders was annoying and that has been improved, plus the ball seems to fly better i mean I used to run the keeper out on every Corner as the ball floated for ages into the keepers hands now if you run out you can't always make it to the ball and the new heading feature makes for sure goals as your keeper is lost like ermmm David James!!

I wouldn't go as far as saying the 4th installment was the worst, but the 5th has defo made the biggest leap.

well exept when the 3rd was made;)

this might sound stupid as i have asked before are you playing on a widescreen??
Because the problem with slow gameplay only seems to be the people who play on a 4:3 screen

I still get bored. Matches seem to consist of the AI passing backwards repeatedly, to the goalie, then he kicks it up, I get the ball, run down the pitch, get outside the penalty box, can't pass to anyone or shoot because there's at least 7 people inside it, trying to cross it in and nobody gets a head to it etc etc

Then thats just down to you being not very good at the game, nothing to do with the game itself.
