Player Development and Injury

One of the reasons I feel master league is so easy is because of the unrealistic player development levels.

You could even start with a ML default team, but there is a guarantee that if you buy players with future potential you will end up with the treble some time or another.

Never, in real life, have I seen the equivalent of a league 1 team get promoted, thrash the top four and beat all the best european teams.

I'm not particularly great at pes - I am often beaten by my friends, but with master league as long as you buy young players who develop, your team will become great - it's just not like that. Middlesbrough brought Afonso Alves, a prolific goalscorer for heerenveen, but who turned out to be a flop for the struggling England League side. But in master league, there is a basic guarantee that a young striker will eventually make 20 goals a season, a young midfielder 20 assists and so on.

But with player development turned off, there is no fun in not seeing your signings develop, so I feel there must be a balance. Perhaps, get rid of the option to see the player development curve. In real life, managers can't look into the future, and so I have never understood why this feature was implemented. For example, with the option to see the curve gone, you'll never know if your newly signed young central defender will be the next john terry or titus bramble.

Finally, player should only develop in master league if their performances improve in games; not just how much you play them each season. A midfielder could give the ball away a lot each game, but each time he tries to pass and fails, this still gives him passing 'experience' points, so he'll eventually be a great. If even a young player makes a mistake, they should be deducted development points, and this will inspire the person playing master league to be more careful, tactical and play a more realistic football game.

On the note of player development, is it possible for players to receive an injury which takes them out of the season? This happens often in football.

But in master league, the most I receive is 2 weeks out for a player, even if the replay shows the most crunching of tackles.

Thanks for reading

I think the developement curve is good in principle, because it sows potential, which is something that can be seen in a young player. Perhaps a way a implementing it better would be to show a curve for a 17 year old that may only have, for sake of argument, a 30% chance of being accurate, and as the player gets older you start to see if he is going to grow into the player he could be. If long term injries became more comon then they should affect the player's developement, and leg injuries could have an effect on pace and so on.

Amad, I agree on pretty much your whole post.

I remember players used to be injured for more than 10 weeks, in one of the older versions on the PS2. I think I even once had Recoba injured for 21 weeks. However, there was a bit of a glitch, which meant that if a player received an injury during the end season friendlies, which would mean he would be out for 10 weeks, he magically recovers for the next season, even though he should miss the first 9 games. I would like a modified version of this in ML and BAL.

Something that I have found increasingly annoying, is that certain natural attributes increase way too much in all developing players. Mainly speed. In real life, players don't tend to start off their careers running like a slug, then a couple of seasons later, becoming as fast as Usain Bolt. Speed should be an ability that does not fluctuate dramatically. I think the same thing applies to physical strength (i.e. Body Balance stat in the game) and shot power, but to a lesser extent. Possibly, also free-kick abilities.

For BAL, rather than predetermined stats, we should be given a certain amount of points to allocate ourselves, to create the style of player we wish to be. For example, you could create a striker or winger with loads of pace, but his finishing or crossing abilities are yet to be honed.
