PS3 AND Xbox..?

Dissapointed by the lack of a decent racing title on the PS3, i'm toying with the idea of getting an Xbox...

I've had a quick blast on Forza 2 & enjoyed the 'weighty' non arcade feel of the driving + It's the closest thing to Gran Tourismo that i've played to date.

To help me decide, i'm looking for a few opinions:

1) Is Forza 2 career mode any good? What level of performance/tuning is available? Or is there something better?

2) Is Mass Effect worth getting? I've seen it for ~£20 in Tesco's...

3) As PSN is free i doubt i'd bother with online play with Xbox, so, are there many offline 2 players games? (e.g. FPS/hack & slash/adventure?)

Finally 4) If i'm going to get one it's likely to be in the next day or two, so if anyone knows of any good deals out there..? (NW England...)

Fanboys will be told to fick off, i'm after honest opinions only thanks.

Fick, I have both consoles and I honestly believe that at the current moment in time the 360 is the superior console.
It has a much better interface then the ps3, the catalouge of games is better plus the controller rocks.

If you were to get an xbox I seriously suggest that you take it online. Xbox live is far superior to the PSN.

Fick I've got a 360 man, my 2 brothers have PS3's.

I like both consoles and all my mates back home have PS3's and are online, I have contemplated getting a PS3 but feel dead happy with the 360. The games are great and as Sully said the controller is awesome.

One thing I've noticed is that Pro Evo on the 360 seems to run far smoother than on the PS3.

I'd say 360.

I can answer the question about Forza 2 Career. The Career is pretty good but can get quite boring after a while, especially when you have to do the endurance races. Some of the cars on the game have really good performance and body tuning, whilst other's lack tuning. There are a lot of cars to choose from (300+). There is also downloadable content that is added, but, it's not quite done regularly. The only other decent driving games are Test Drive:Unlimited, PGR 4, and the Need For Speed series which always has a decent tuning mode.

Forza 2 career mode becomes repetitive for me, but then again I am not a huge racing fan. Test Drive: Unlimited was more my cup of tea, and can be picked up for a tenner pre-owned now.

If you are definitely not going to play online, an Arcade console will suffice - and you can get one brand new at Shopto.net for £139.99 I think.

But I couldn't imagine not having XBox Live - It's only 30 quid for the year well worth it as well.

You could just wait till the 28th, Gran Tourismo Prologue is out, 24.99.

I'll be getting the full game when it eventually comes out. I found the last prologue to be a bit short...

I don't tend to get bored as i'm 100% petrol head!

As for live, might have to look at that if it's only £30 notes... what would the best package though?

As the missus is away in York this weekend, i might look to pick myself something up tomorrow/Sat am... shame to waste a bit of free time!!!

Thanks for your comments fella's.

Good luck mate, and you HAVE to get Live and COD4...and Pro.

I'll be on live any time now, waiting on Pipex getting connected at the new pad and i'll be away.

Cheers. Had COD4 on PS3, but never got round to getting online. As for PES... dip in & out of friendlies but thats about it. Doubt i'll bother as i've reverted to PS2 PES6 for my footy fix.

Anyone any comments on Mass Effect?

I'm currently playing Mass Effect. It's a great game if you're into that sort of thing. I've recommended it to a few friends and they've hated it. I've put about 14 hours in and haven't even scratched the surface of the game.

I suggest watching GT's video review...

Wait...
The down side of the 360 is that it's quite unreliable. It has the highest failure rate of all the current consoles. I've had mine break 2 twice in the space of a cuple months and had to send it away to be repaired each time. It's fantastic when it's working, just pray that the machine you purchase won't be faulty.

That's one of the reasons i plan to purchase from a local retailer rather than online. If i'm gonna complain about something i like to do it in a shop full of customers... salesmen hate it.

I've heard a lot of that to be honest. Although I've had my console a long while now and *touch wood* nothing has ever gone wrong with it.

Nope. Love rallying, but it's never really worked for me as a game. Prefer circuit racing tbh.

I would go for XBOX 360, TestDrive: Unlimited like Hitman said, never gets boring. Forza 2 is OMG so realistic. The damage is superb. But mind you so is PGR 4. Not seen much games on PS3 but Grand Turismo: Prolouge looks really good.

Well, i did the deed on Friday night and subsequently lost most of the weekend on Mass Effect. Very addictive.

Forza is everything i expected & more & will certainly fill the gap easily until the full GT comes out.

Cheers all.
