Afternoon guys.

I've had my 60GB PS3 for over 2 years and last week I got the dreaded 'yellow light of death' problem where it turns yellow for a split second then flashes red and just won't turn on. Since I've had it over two years, it's out of warranty.

I've spoken to Sony and they said they'll give me a replacement for £145 and exchange it for my broken PS3. However, I've surfed around the net and I've seen there's a few places doing repairs on this specific problem for about £80, but they hardly look overly trust-worthy or legit.

So basically, first of all, does anyone know if there's an easy fix to this or a possible solution to this 'yellow light of death' problem? I'm guessing not, so my second question would be, what would you suggest I do? Is there no way I can get a repair for a good price or would I be better off just buying a new one for half the price from Sony? Only downside (apart from the damage to my wallet) would be the fact that I'd lose all my game saves and shit from the PSN store which would suck, but I'd get over it.

Personally, I would just get the replacement straight from Sony. It seems a bit expensive, but it's better than taking a chance on taking it to a place you're not 100% sure of and potentially seeing your console destroyed for ever.

Plus, 60GB (the best models) aren't easy to get anymore, if at all.

Cheers guys. Yeah, I just impatiently opted for the replacement which comes on Tuesday. It's a bit of a nuisance losing all of my shit from the hard-drive (Robinho had just signed for my Wolves team, mayen), but it's my only guarantee I'll have a working PS3 without forking over £300 for one - not to mention the 60GB.

Aha, thanks Joel. :) Heading off to the game soon, let's hope they give me a present with a good performance and give the young kids a run in the side!
