What does everyone think of PES 2018 so far then? What would you change if you could?

I think there are some definite positives. The remodelled players are much more life like. All the additional licensed European and National teams are more than welcome. The gameplay feels a bit more fluid than PES 2017 in my opinion.

The thing that lets it down, as usual, is the UI and the commentary. I can't see how Konami continue to ignore this aspect of the game every single year. Gameplay is king, I know, but these things just seem to be ignored. The trouble is with Konami, they always seem to shoot themselves in the foot. They make a huge effort to make it the best edition ever (which it is I think) but they go and do something incredibly, ridiculously, lazy like not updating half the licensed teams kits? Can you imagine, an annually released sports sim not updating the kits?!!! I know this will be done in the data pack, but come on, that is schoolboy error number one isn't it??

Overall, I think it's a job well done, but Konami really need to get more professional in the future if they want to be taken serious against their rival. FIFA maybe average (I tried the demo and it's soulless and lifeless as usual) but at least they get the basics surrounding the game right. And that should be the EASY part, shouldn't it??

Agree the game play has been upgraded from last years (loved last years) it feels a lot slicker, i also like that they have slowed it all down it gives you time to think your way through the games. On superstar level your mistakes are punished e.g. giving the ball away in the middle of the pitch 7 times out of 10 the AI will score, i like that. The gks aren't as good as last year in my opinion seen a few howlers, needs more fouls committed by AI, cursor changing feels slow sometimes, and the commentary is a complete right off silence would be better. For me tho they are minor flaws and the game is really good fun and I'am enjoying it.:)

Crossing and scoring from headers is still OP. The AI struggles to defend wide players, crossing is too accurate, and players are too often open in the penalty box to score the headers. Over the top passes are too effective too. The AI and my AI teammates don't seem to deal with this passes that well. I wonder if Konami can add a patch for this. Also, shooting animations need improvement. Fifa seems to provide more control over shooting and has better shooting animations that look more realistic. Goalkeepers need to be improved too.

I personally don't care too much about the menus and their layouts, but I surprised Konami hasn't really worked on them. They get criticized every year for being ugly and outdated.

What does everyone think of PES 2018 so far then?

What would you change if you could?

I really like this new PES game.

This is the best sports game that I have ever played in my life. And the best video game I've ever played. And that's saying a lot. But let me explain why.

The entertainment value of PES 2018 is very high. Value for money is very high. And yes, it has two big flaws. Commentary and user interface need improvement. They are both pretty much crap.

But that's it.

All Konami needs to do is continue to sink money into the animations, physical contact, AI, gameplay and graphics and this game will continue to set the bar higher every year. Especially on PC.

I've played a lot of video games. Dating back to the early 80's. Even so, my favorite RPG series is the more recent Divinity Original Sin series. I've seen some impressive cut scene direction and visuals in Witcher III, which can't be ignored. And some great writing and voice actors, too.

Some of the best strategy games were Company of Heroes, Age of Empires III, and the Anno games. I could list more. MMO's and many others.

But none of these games that I could ever list, or mention, brought me thousands of hours of entertainment, year after year like PES did.

I've never played a video game, or video game series, as much as this one. And I'm not even a fan of football. I don't watch the sport. I used to play it, but I hated it. I'm a triathlete. But if you want to talk about video games, and the vastly improved quality of this year's PES game on PC, this has to be the best video game that I have ever played.

I am very hard on movies and games. I practically hate them all. And let's be real, PES 2018 is not game of the year. But Konami certainly deserves praise for it, and it certainly deserves a shot at sports game of the year.

Larian Studios has a lock on RPG of the year. Hell, they deserve Game of the Year for that gem they just produced. But saying that, and taking everything else I said into account, PES 2018 is still the best video game, and best video game series that I have ever played. And that record will never be broken. By any game. Ever.

It's fascinating watching Master League games play out. Even if you just sim them in coach mode. An incredible game. And by far the best Konami has ever designed.

two big flaws in this game is that gameplay is absolutely same since last year
no fouls
shooting has no variety whatsoever, ball speed representation needs a overhaul, speed of ball doesn t match animation of pass, like the ball is on predetermined flight speed i cant explain more but fifa has that better than pes, and especially shooting variation, non existent in pes, keepers are so slow to react to long shots, once again animation doesn t match the speed of shots, feels like they forced the slow motion animation of keepers to make long range effective, and it looks god awful..
