Cheers bud, yeah i had seen them, all looks alot better than 08/09 but all i want to know is how smoothly it runs. In fairness to the above post, your right, lag will always exsist, but ive heard about Fifa's online system (never played it) and just hope it runs as smoothly as that apparently does! I am however keen to find out about the CO-OP Tournament, sounds like it could be 2v2 from the same console, i hope so anyway!!

No problem, I think this game will be brilliat, but a stepping stone onto futher greatness.

^Come one man. Online only??? It's important yes, but the online is not the core game. That matters the most because even online uses the core game's gameplay and graphics.
As for the game. It's really looking awesome. It seems that my waiting and seeing things before commenting really worked. I was right not to judge from the begining.
Pes 2010 improved alot even as a pes game because I have never witnessed a pes game that has all so many new features.

I would take be more than happy with 09 if there was no lag problem, in fact 08 would have been OK! Online is important, dont underestimate it. glad the comps are back like pes6.

Must say I am really looking forward to it, started to think that I would have to hang up my pad at 37 after 25 years of footy games, now it looks like it might be needed for a few years more!

As for Dave Rutter, hope he aint feeling too bad, he has brought EA forward a million miles and I would dare say PES with it!

^I think no one understood what I said.
I meant that online is important (ofcourse it is) but in online the game's gameplay wil be used, so if it is lag free but has bad gameplay, what value does online have?
It all depends on how good the core game is.

At this point, I'm trying my best to ignore all the hype. Ever since PES 2008, I always have gotten really hypeed up about the game and listened to the blogs where gaming sites claim that this is the year that Konami reclaim their throne only to be bitterly dissapointed. This year, no hype and definitely no guaranteed release day buy. I plan on giving the game a rent first and then deciding wether to buy. With PES(and really anything in life) the less you expect from something, the less chance there is of being disappointed.

I think Janus, Shaun and Rpro each raise good points here: just how crucial to this titles success is online playability? I've never played Fifa but I've heard that 10 vs 10 is near seamless - unthinkable in PES.
For me online playability is a major part of my enjoyment of the game, and something that has frustrated and infuriated me in equal measure. But as Shaun says, the reported improvements made to the core game already suggest this version has the most genuine steps forward a PES game has seen since the series began. Konami could yet drop the ball if online continues to be a joke, and it would be a real shame if something so simple should spoil all the positives that look to be taking place. Here's hoping the dedicated online team Konami have put in place this year pull it out the bag, cos it's looking like the rest of the team are setting them up for the perfect finish. Or glaring miss...?

minenow, just had a thought, would be funny if further big news from Konami is that online will feature 10 v 10 online.........!

the news is good, no doubt about that. still feels a bit late though, maybe 3 years late! anyways i will be buying both games, i played a ton of master league but got bored as per usually when all my average players turned into 95+ stars making the league too easy. then i picked FIFA up for £25 and played alot of that, i mainly liked it because the passing moves you could put together felt a lot more fluent and real, but the finishing meant every goal ended up very similar.

any news as to if you can switch clubs in the ML?i think that is desperately needed!

The mood is good!!! ;o)
But as I've stated in another thread: Now I've heard "all" I needed/wanted to hear. Now it's up the game to prove itself - meaning that the demo will let me know just how good this game is.
All the adjustments sound awsome. The new player cards combined with the tactical sliders might just be a stroke of genius for the more simulation'ish gameplay we all want back in the series!!! The sliders alone wouldn't do the job (as in FIFA 09) - but with the player cards, where the real-life player charactheristics (while in control of cpu) should shine through, this might turn out to be what will really seperate the simulation feel from the arcade feel. Personally I love the thought of that!

But I'll also admit that I bought FIFA last year instead of PES - and I've really fallen for the way, that EA has been great at making all the small details shine through. (Especially all the player animations in different situations). I'm afraid I'm going to miss that in this years PES.
But FIFA's biggest fault is that it lacks player individuallity sooo much. If they nailed that part of the game, then I think a lot of people would have huge difficulties choosing a game this year - 'cause FIFA really has stepped up.

But the combination of great player individuality and the more simulation'ish gameplay should settle it for me! If the good old feel of PES is back, with almost no two goals look or feel alike, then it might just turn out be the greatest PES ever. But let's wait for the demo! ;o)

It's not to turn this thread into a PES vs. FIFA. But I just thought that now that we've seen what PES has up it's sleeve, I just wanted to add the latest news about what FIFA has in its sleeve this year. Sounds good too! Great if we'll have two good games this year, as I'm personally no fanboy of either game (although I was a fanboy of PES from all the way back since ISS Pro Evo 'till PES08...))

Anyways! Here's a resumé on what FIFA has in store right now:

------

EDIT: Guys, the 360 dribbling is only when NOT USING SPRINT at the moment, found this out a few days ago, its something that EA might work on for this year, but i have to tell you guys now.

FSB's chris davies summary on yesterdays play test

"It’s just such a polished game. That’s the main selling point - all the old niggles have gone and when you factor in the ball physics you get all the passion that some people might say has been missing. Scorching goals, fingertip saves and more. Some stuff I forgot to mention; we played as lower league Spanish teams (which were present, no English ones) and WOW. They were done properly. Different game. Also, when you get a good player, you can murder the opposition with your movement. As Barca Eto’o was a nightmare for the opposition BUT not to the point where it feels like an exploit. That’s one of the strongest feelings I got from today; everything you see is BELIEVABLE.

Players can knock you off the ball, but only players who would be capable, and only in the right situation. It all looks so real. There was never an instance where I said ‘that’s ridiculous’ - things only ever happened when appropriate. That’s the biggest change by far.

Also, we tried assisted for a laugh, and get this - they’ve made it harder. Assisted shots miss the target most of the time! Result! Can you ping-pong passes? Well some have said you can’t - in my experience you can, BUT it’s the defenders who have improved. After a few pings around the field a defender (always better positioned by the way) will stick a foot out and knock it away. Speaking of which you get some wicked deflections, and some amazing reflex saves.

Right, that’s DEFINITELY my last update of the day. Thanks for reading!"

Another one here from The official fifa forum.

Ok before I start just a few things about what I can talk about and what I experienced at the event so you’re all up to date.

-I only played the 6 week old build
-We played on the XBOX360 version only
-I can only talk about gameplay, no leagues, stats, modes etc
-The demo build was there but I can’t comment on it

Now on to the good stuff

Game Speed
A big issue for a lot of people is game speed and for me on the build we played it was perfect. The first few matches I played were on the “Normal” setting and it felt great. There was time in midfield to pass and build up play, I could slow the game down if I wanted and speed it up for incisive break a ways. Me and Tom then tried out the “Slow” setting. I didn’t like this as much it felt a little too slow for me personally but was still much better than 09. But for those who like it really slow you’ll have no issues this year.

Weather
If the weather was poor in Fifa09 then the weather in Fifa10 is nothing short of spectacular. For each stadium you can now choose between Day, Night and Overcast You can also change the conditions to either Dry, Rainy or Snowy!! Now where do I start with snow? It’s FANTASTIC, the pitch is frozen, snow is clearly falling from all camera angles and you can see the players breath it’s honestly brilliant. But Rainy is quite brilliant also, you see splash puddles from players feet when they run and slide tackle and (you’ll love this) me and Tom set a match to Rainy and kicked off, but it wasn’t raining?? We thought “oh a glitch perhaps?” but 30 mins in it bucketed down with rain..........stunned silence!

360 Dribbling
I personally loved 360 dribbling it doesn’t smash you in the face and say “here I am look at me!” It just blends with the whole game to the point where you don’t even notice it anymore. Everything is so much more fluid now and players really feel like they move and react naturally. Now sprinting with 360 some are worried about but don’t! It’s not full 360 when you sprint that’s correct but it’s not 8 directional either I’d say it’s about 16 directions. But it works really well because at full speed no one can run in circles or dance around in real life anyway. When sprinting at top speed you have to bend your runs away from the defender gradually not in sharp drastic movements, it feels really nice.

Skilled Dribble
It’s probably my favourite new element from the play test. Dive in at your peril guys because Messi and Co will tear you apart. You can jink your runs, cut inside, take on the full back and actually beat a man which is pretty much unheard of in 09. But that’s not to say it’s an all powerful super button, if you don’t time it right or dally on the ball the defenders will swallow you up no problem. It’s going to be a real art to master this year when using it yourself and trying to defend agaisnt it. I also found this useful with players like Xavi and Iniesta to create space in midfield, the small players will not be overlooked this year for sure.

Shooting
Once again a huge improvement from 09, the shooting is much heavier now and you can really drive the ball at goal rather than tapping shoot and it going into row Z. For instance I scored a cracking goal with Werder Bremen where I drilled a shot from 20 yards in to the bottom corner of the net. Volleys are also much better Mills scored a great goal with Carew where he chested down in the box and smashed a volley in. Overall shooting is great!

Player Animations
The player animations are great this year, there are so many more you notice as you play multiple games of Fifa10, the way the players sprint, change direction, jump, fall, slide are all great and their off the ball in game animations are even better. Example! I was Italy and cut in from the left and curled a shot towards the far post which clipped the edge of the post and went out for a goal kick. Di Natale (in game) drops to his knees looks the heavens and prays!...........Open mouths all round!

Jockeying/Jostling
This year instead of one default jockey animation there are now about 3 or 4 I noticed, it all depends on the defenders angle and position to how they jockey. And you must time your tackles now, no more holding pressure and the AI tackling for you. In fact after 3 or 4 games I noticed I was barley using pressure as it was pretty much in-affective. The jostling is great this year when players collide it’s really realistic, you no longer feel cheated when someone shoves you off the ball as it entirely depends on the individual situation as to who wins possession. Also some of the tackles are brutal, there were a few incidents where you wince at the ferocity the players show, when they go through someone boy do they go through someone It looks and feels great though and the refereeing is infinitely more clever and responsive this year.

Right that’s it hope you enjoyed it feel free to ask any gameplay related questions. Remember this was the 6 week old build we played and is not representative of the Demo that will be in Cologne!

Such a fanboy.

Why can't you hope for 2 great football games?

Im not a fanboy, eas fifa games just dont do it for me plus i personally feel that fifa09 was overated.

As for dave ruttler he just thought he had trumped konami this year with fifas 360 dribbling.

Remember ea have only had one fairly descent game fifa09 that still was riddled with bugs had ragdoll players, planet no gravity physics, predictable ai,floatie ball etc.

While pes09 was pretty unfinished its still a better game then fifa09....sorry bud but eas fifa games still dont feel right and that ea branding just makes me want to puke.Twenty years ive been playing football games and only once in twenty years have ea produced a half descent game and that was last year.

^Man, it's just not gameplay. It's the best parts of the gameplay edited together. That's not good enough to decide which game.
Fifa 09 was better than pes 09 for me, but it's far from realistic ( responsivness, individuality, overrating speed because it's the only way to get rid of defenders.. etc...)
But from the trailers, it looked better.
So you just cannot decide on the trailers. You need to play it.

perfectstrik, how can you say pes 2010 looks more organic or better when there hasn't been a proper video like the above out yet.

EA have always had good trailers but those are close ups, with their best animation crammed into the trailer. need to see gameplay in wide view, and i agree ball physics look a bit sketchy

Once Gamescon is on from Tomorrow there will be plenty of gamplay videos on Youtube from both PES and FIFA. Then we can make our judgements.

On topic, my mood is about 7/10 atm from 5/10 last week.
