Switch to FIFA 2008 ?

I’ve been playing PES 2008 for 2 weeks now and I’m tired of the poor game play and frequent glitches.
I’ve acquired FIFA 2008 and I have been impressed by the smooth and logical game play as well as an AI that seems to understand the fundamentals of football.

I intend to stop playing PES and switch to FIFA for a full week.
I’ve played less than 6 games of FIFA 2008 but from what I’ve seen; it’s a far superior game.
I’ve always thought that the FIFA series is over hyped and a complete waste of time but this edition has changed my mind.

I expect after a week playing FIFA; my suspicions will be confirmed. It is the best football game ever made.
I would urge anyone that has not played FIFA to give this version a try.
From the few game I’ve played, it’s proven to be rewarding, without the glitches that plague PES and a joy to play.
FIFA 2008 is enjoyable despite me having a 64mb gfx card on a low end laptop.

Part of the reason is surely because FIFA 2008 on PC is not "next gen" (which is a term I hate).

Konami's disgraceful lack of OS testing does have something to do with it though.

There was testing but they didn't give a shit. You only need to play a few games to see what is wrong with it.
Konami didn't want to lose out but they screwed up their reputation.
Question is, have we, the consumer learnt from our mistakes? or are we going to rush out and buy PES 2009.

I think PES 2008 is the best football game on the market. Yes it has a lot of faults and Konami has taken some steps back if you look at editing.
I also have fifa08, its a good looking game, but the gameplay is so so slow and you dont have any feeling of controle.
When you play PES think for the reaction the players have, the dribbels you can make and the pace the game has.
Editing boots and shirts really has nothing to do with the game. Only if you are english you can cry, but then just play LaLiga or serie A.

Well I am a la liga, barca and a PES/WE fanatic and I reckon winning 8-0 on top player against barca with my ML team of unknowns against a full strength Barca is no fun.
That said, playing fifa doesn't feel much better for
me.

I think Konami made a huge mistake in delaying the game SO MUCH especially in the Americas, which is stupid because now that we heard just about 99% of the people in Europe say FIFA is better, we're not gonna waste money on pro.

I think FIFA also offers many more clubs and venues with endless amounts of teams to choose from, good for the gamer who's constantly online or playing multiplayer. The Be-A-Pro mode is fantastic as well. And little things such as every TEAM, except the Netherlands national team (whats up with that?), is licensed and recognisable. I think to improve their game FIFA need more national teams (we can' just wait for a world cup game every four years) like Pro has done with theirs including my all time favourite national teams like Cote D'Ivoire, Angola and Israel to name a few. As for Pro evoloution this version seemed somewhat of a downgrade and I think the got way too cocky?

Does anybody know if the game will be improved by the time it comes to the Americas?

I am another one who jumped boat..Been a PES fan since the ISS series and I was always a FIFA basher.. However, when I got my PS3 I decided to see the new FIFA and let me tell you folks from a complete unbiased fanatic, FIFA is better (on the PS2, PES wins). Besides, I cant do without my liscences and given the lack of OFs on the PS3 PES, I had to switch

Long time PES player (though no fan-boy). Tried FIFA for the PS3 & to be honest wasn't that impressed. Ok, players sweat, but kit's dont get dirty? Odd, but Ok, benefit of the doubt 'n all that. Still suffers from square thigh syndrome. I can live with that.
Gameplay? Shooting is random at best with banana shots only Sensi has previously been capable of. Passing is a vauge experience with less control than PES. Free kicks? Why bother? From virtually anywhere round the box you can score with a quick tap aimed at a top corner. No skill required.
Leauge play? Crap. Cumbersome menus don't help matters. No trades on transfers? A joke surely?

Lets just say i wasn't too impressed.

I've played Konami's football games since I can remember, like Fickelred, I'm no 'fanboy' and I have bought both FIFA and Pro every year.

It's all a matter of taste I guess, and I certainly wouldn't stick with Pro if it was total garbage, but the fact remains, from my P.O.V. at least, that FIFA hasn't really come anywhere near Pro since FIFA: Road To World Cup 98, I played that FIFA game to death.

This years FIFA is good, but as with the last 4 or 5 years installments, it doesn't have the longevity that Pro has.

Pro DOES seem to be slowing up the last 2 years and FIFA IS catching up...but until FIFA releases a game where EA choose gameplay over graphics and licences, I can't see them topping Pro.

PES2008 has enough to keep me playing it until October, but the next head-to-head is the 'biggie' though...

i think if evryone keeps on saying theyre dissapointed konami might go and put full effort to try and get the greatest football game on the planet
i mean evryone was complaning about 'Wheres the refs on the pitch?' on pes3 ,and konami went and put a ref in the game
then in pes6 evryone said 'wheres the linesmen?where is the 20 teams in the masterleague? and then they went and put a linesman and 20 tams in a master legue table. so if we keep complaing about whats wrong with the game and say how crap it is then maybe konami will go and make the greatest game on the planet, 100 times better than fifa can give us
another thing. people say that konami are cheap skates, personally i dont think so, look how much money EA have and put into FIFA games
now look how less money konami has
when you look at EA you think of what:
need for speed games: need for speed underground 1,2. need for speed carbon. need for speed prostreet. need for speed hot pursuit 1,2.
need for speed 1,2.
Fifa street games : Fifa street 1,2 and soon 3
The simpsons new movie game
lord of the rings games
burnout games
the sims games
im not gona tell you all the games but categories?
EA
EA sports
EA sports BIG
and how much games are in those categories?
i think you can find oput the answer one guess
games = money
have thousands and thousands of games made
each game atleast £30-£60 lets say £40
and how much people go buy the same game
lets say i went and bought fifa 08
it was what RRP = £50
think of the amount of fifa players who went and bought that game world wide
your talking thousands and thousands maybe even millions
now yu cannot say that konami have a bigger game range than EA
yes EA has more money and more rep
but considering what konami have and what games their making which are probly neck and neck between EA
imagine what konami could do if they had millions and millions of money to spend
so if we switch to fifa, konami will never know what we wanted
if we go buy PES2009, PES2010 etc
then konami will realize when we like a game and what we like
so people dont go by fifa stay with the better game
Pro evoution soccer

I've always been a PES fan. The only FIFA games I've played are FIFA street 1 and 2 (which were ace. cant wait for 3). But just like toepoke, Im getting SO tired of the gliches and crappy gameplay. Its embarassing! Konami have taken a huge leap backwards and they have some ground to cover. People who say PES 2008 is the best on the market are messed up, Konami have completely ruined their reputation.

I've looked at the latest FIFA and it looks pretty impressive from what I've read. I like the look of the career mode where your just one player, although that could get kind of boring, and the gameplay sounds pretty good, with the control over off the ball movement.

I'm so incredibly pissed off with PES2008..

Tackling in the game is shocking. Defenders wont tackle properly except from by the touchline, and then when they win it, it ALWAYS goes out for a opp. throw in. In words it probably doesnt sound that bad, but if you saw some of the times that my opponents have won throw ins from near the touchline tackles, you would be just as annoyed as me.
50-50s never go my way. Or if they do, the opponents get it back straight away, because somehow the ball rocketed towards the touchline and I cant catch up with it. When I lose them, the opponents always keep the ball!
The refs are crap. I mean, I get the ball with true british tackles, the kind you see Steven Gerrard or John Terry make, and even if you can clearly see I won the ball, I often get booked. Explain?
Shooting is dismal, players slide to shoot far to often! If they are in space and I lay them off with a through pass, they stop running, and then try to slide to get to it instead of just shooting normally. They do that with recieving through balls too. Its annoying, because then I lose my attacking advantage!
And if the keeper takes me down when I get past him, its never a penalty! I change direction in front of him, he misses the ball and gets me, I cant ride the tackle and fall, a defender comes in to pick up the loose ball and the ref plays on! Its a bloody joke sometimes too. I have replays if anybody wants to see!

Oh crist I'm getting fed up with PES... FIFA here I come..

@mikecrouch Fifa has just as many problems in respect of gameplay as PES.

360 users have had 2 piss poor efforts in 2 years now from Konami....i'm sick of waiting for this so called great game to finally be produced which is why i won't buy another PES title again until i see some real genuine improvement.

I decided after month of rying to enjoy PES 08 on the PS3 that Im going to trade the game in for a copy of FIFA 08. I have been patient but the fact of the matter is I find myself so pissed of at the game's constant glitches that always seem to come at the wrong time for me which costs me games.

I have given up on PES and Konami and itll take a great deal to get me back on board. The true question though is... will any shops offer me any money in part exchange for a copy of FIFA?

the answer. Probably not
