Tackling!

Is it only me, or is tackling in this edition a complete joke? No matter how hard I try, I end up conceding 2-3 goals per game, because my players are incapable of stoping their opponents. I've been playing PES for years now, always on "champion" level, but I've never had such problem before.

I updated to Vers. 1.02, I tried practicing in training, but I simply cannot grasp the whole concept of tackling. My players either end up making foul or get dribbled like a bunch of clowns. Does anyone have any tips for me, please? I'm getting desperate.

It takes time, and a lot of practice. When I first played the game in July, I thought the tackling was hard. But after time spent in training mode (as well as the training challenge mode), I got good in the end.

And yes, there's still room for improvement. ;)

the key is not to just hold X and hope he will win the tackle. U have to wait, jockey ur opponent and then at the right time go for it

simply practice makes perfect m8, i was ready to bin the game but now i think its awesome :bravo:
That's because you're an absolute muppet with no brain that just takes advantage of the broken gameplay and glitches.

The best way is to play how you usually play and wait for konami to decide the outcome.

.....and then laugh as they lose even more market share.

For the ps3, press Square and R2.

square should only be used to let teammates pressurize the opponent.. Unlinke in previous versions of pes, the X (for ps3) is not really used anymore for tackling.. This time the cpu will perform a tackle with the player you have selected, once you are in a good position for tackling. So the key is to get your defender in a good position, jockeying (by holding R2) is a very helpful technique..

It's kind of retarded that computer controlled opponents can dribble like you can't. Also, online, the system does not work, especially in master league online, where the fun begins. btw before anyone bash me, id like to state im pretty good in dribbling and speed bursting throught defence too, but its not football game, its just arcade button mashing, for which fifa is so hated here.

^ Exactly. Amen to that. I've defended konami for more than a decade now, but i'm not sure how much longer i can continue :(

Whilst I agree with you that markcross is a muppet, I have to disagree with everything else. I am perfectly capable at tackling/defending on this game and enjoy it. It's not broken or glitched, it just takes practice. The game has advanced, so you need to advance with it and not "play how you usually play". This won't work. If you do then you will concede 2-3+ goals per game like the OP. I don't concede that many per game. Yes I have conceded that many, but when I'm playing against stronger opponents and my tactics aren't working. I've kept a lot of clean sheets, and conceded the odd goal here and there.

As for the OP, don't just rely on training to learn how to defend. If there is one thing that this game did to me it was knock me down a couple of pegs in terms of difficulty. I'm used to playing on Top Player, but I was knocked down to regular until I got used to tackling and got better at it. Now I'm playing on Pro quite comfortably and will move up to Top Player, then Superstar (I hope).

In pes the AI time your tackles because there is no freedom(when i press slide tackle, the cup automatically decides i want to stand tackle when i don't). Also, FIFA don't struggle with Zonal marking unlike pes which do as cb's are out of positions and they let every attacker get past them even with jockey

If every attacker is getting past you, then you can't defend. And the CPU does not time my tackles, I do. If I want to slide tackle, I press the button, and the player slides in for a tackle.

You're either doing/playing it wrong, or you need a new disc. Which I doubt.

I can accept that some people just cannot play the game, or have difficulty with the new defending method, and dislike the game because of it. I dislike COD, but not because I think it's broken or glitched, but because I'm just not very good at it. I accept all of that. But to suggest the game is broken when I and so many others can defend and can play the game well is just plain stupid.

I got a decent record of clean sheets but that's because I find it easy but unrealistic. I think you are being a bit like markcross now who says 'you only say the game is crap becuae you suck at it' I do not suck at thegame or defending but finding a bit unrealistic that attackers are overpowered and defnders are underpowered

But you said

I don't have that issue. When I press to slide, the player slides. So I am getting complete freedom to carry out that move.

You also said
Also, FIFA don't struggle with Zonal marking unlike pes which do as cb's are out of positions and they let every attacker get past them even with jockey
You must be doing it wrong if the attackers are getting past you all the time. Of course you're not going to keep them at bay 100% of the time, you have to realistic about it. But if they are getting past your jockey 100% of the time then you can't be doing it right. In my opinion obviously. I can't see what else it could be. Like I said, I and many others can do it, so it can't be an issue with the game, it must be an issue with the gamer.

They've certainly made the tackling harder, no doubt about that, but it's the method as much as the difficulty that's anoying people. They've made the defending a real chore, it bores the life out of me.

Loved the old system of just using the A button, hold A and away from the player to back off, push forward when you finally want to stick your foot in and make the tackle. What the hell was wrong with that? Why are they making us use the R2 button as well now? Why is everyone so bloody obsessed with jockeying?

Fine, tackling is only harder because of the abilities of the striker.
Are you saying, Steve Justice, that Heskey can peform Ronaldo Chop's in real life.

I like soccer mums, lots of them are lovely. Nothing wrong with being a yank who likes soccer. Those who are into it know their shit, it's those who have no interest in the game are a mare to deal with it. I'm
English btw been living here for 12 yrs, and have to say don't knock the place when your views are manufactured by what others may say, or the retarded media, it's a great place to live and I'm being 100% sincere.
