At TNA's Bound For Glory pay-per-view this weekend, Midway Games will be holding a major media launch for "TNA Impact: The Video Game." This is the first pro wrestling video game associated with a major promotion other than WWE since WCW shutdown in 2001. The game is scheduled to be released in May for Playstation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, and Playstation 2.

Both Samoa Joe and AJ Styles have spent a lot of time with Midway producers fine-tuning all the details of the game. So far the following as been confirmed:

- The Impact video game will feature 20 TNA performers that are all customizable within the game. Top names on the game include Kurt Angle, Samoa Joe, Sting, Christian Cage, Jeff Jarrett, Rhino, Abyss, and AJ Styles.

- Kurt Angle, Christian Cage, Sting, and Jeff Jarrett will be featured on the cover of the game.

- The Six-Sided ring will be included in the game and will feature the TNA specialty matches The Ultimate X, The King of The Mountain, and tag team matches and Fatal Four Ways. Midway is teasing that the game will feature "Online Tournaments".

- A story mode will be included into the game that is said to be similar to WWE video games. Story mode will allow players to create and choose a career path based on decisions that they take during the storyline. Gamers will be able to choose the look of their character as well as their managers who will specialize in different fighting styles.

- Mini games will be included in the game as they will be played to help enhance a character's appearance and abilities as well as unlock hidden features in the game.

- There will also be a Create A Wrestler mode where you will be able to create your very own performer.

I'm major hyped for this game, as i'm probably the biggest TNA fan on this site :)tongue:) and i've always liked TNA better then the WWE. Cannot wait for this to come out, now.

20 wrestler's is really really dissapointing, but they are putting A LOT of detail into each one, apparently. Also you could be able to unlock the other's, or it could just be 20 as its a early build. Take a look at this screenshot of The Instant Classic Christian Cage;

Now, that, that's graphics. You can also customize each wrestler, which is a brilliant feature and one I waited and waited for in the Smackdown! series.

Release Date:
USA - March 30, 2008 (According to caws.ws*)
UK - March 30? Maybe even before that, as we get the Smackdown games before USA do
Europe - Same as UK, I guess

Info:

* Character Creation mode will be a big feature in the game.
* Features Ultimate X and King of the Mountain matches.
* Several arenas, including one in Japan with different crowd atmospheres.

Some Screenshots:

...More to be added, including some Magazine Scans.

I hope they have a character countdown, like the Smackdown series do.

* - As you may or may not know, TNA iMPACT! is scheduled to be released sometime in 2008, but a working date for the release of the game has been set to March 30, 2008 on all major platforms. This date is not set in stone and this topic will be edited and updated as more news develops about the release of the game. Please do not make more topics about the released date of the game unless you have more news about the date, this topic is for your convenience, so don't flood the forum with release date topics.

Looks fantastic. If it can recapture the gameplay and fun of No Mercy we might finally have a good post-N64 wrestling game here.

True, No Mercy was by some way the best wrestling game to date... though the combo king in me will always have a soft spot for the mighty Warzone back in the day.

Is that the Warzone on N64? Whenever I went to my mates house I'd always insist on playing Warzone. Best wrestling game I ever played, although that's not saying much as one of the other wrestling games I've played is the arcade wwf game which came with my Playstation 1

I had about a day to digest what I saw and played of TNA Impact this past weekend. First of all I can honestly say that I am extremely impressed with what I have seen so far. The graphics, like I mentioned on the special live edition of GamingRing Radio, was the best I have ever seen in a wrestling game -- I am talking almost photo realistic graphics with the wrestlers faces and skin textures. Specifically impressive was the lighting and the way the lighting effects flow over the crowd.

One of the concerns I had before I saw the game was the animation and how fluid would the gameplay be. Well, the good news is that the game does extremely fluid at a rock solid 60 frames per second, which definitely is noticeable. While the build we played was far from complete, animation wise or gameplay wise, we were impressed. For example, there was one sequence where me and Charles traded about 3 reversals back to back to back, with Charles finally nailing the huge German suplex. One of the things I spoke with the developers from Midway about is reversals and chain combination wrestling. Already in place with this build is the striking combinations, but what wasn’t shown but was promised to be in was the chain combo wrestling. Where for example you lock up in the standard lock up, and from there you proceed to put your opponent in a head lock and from there you can perform different chain moves. 60% of the almost 2500 moves will be performed from the standard lockup. Everyone I spoke with from the TNA Superstars to the development team from Midway all said that the classic AKI Nintendo 64 wrestling game WWF No Mercy had a huge influence on the direction that this title is taking. Everything down to the shorter entrances to the actual gameplay where there is a weak and strong grappling system. Honestly, I felt the vibe from playing the game. Basically, Midway is attempting to make TNA Impact the WWF No Mercy for the next generation consoles.

One of the most impressive things is that the Midway developers have actually played all of the Japanese wrestling game imports to borrow and get ideas to make their game better. To help matters even more is that both AJ Styles and Samoa Joe who lended a helping hand with this game are both avid wrestling game fans. They, much like ourselves know what makes a great wrestling game and that’s the gameplay with the grappling engine, and if the moves look like they hurt or not. All of the games moves were motion captured by TNA Superstars Samoa Joe, AJ Styles, Senshi, Jay Lethal, Christopher Daniels and Sonjay Dutt. In fact during the motion capturing Sonjay Dutt took a hard fall and was taken to seek medical assistance. He was fine from the spill, but that does showcase just how serious the TNA Superstars took their performances with motion capturing the moves for the game.

All in all, I left Atlanta very impressed with Midway has accomplished with TNA Impact in the short time the game has been in development. With nearly 6 months to go before the game ships, Midway has plenty of time to bring out the full potential on what their promising. We may finally have a legitimate competitor to what product that THQ is offering and ultimately when this happens, the winners are the gamers. To quote a legendary wrestling commentator, "business is about to pick up!"

We just got back from the TNA Fanfest and the TNA Impact Press conference, and they showcased the trailer that debuted last night on TNAWrestling.com, as well as the special "making of" video. After that, Christian Cage and Samoa Joe took the stage for a special simulation between the two. Visually, the game looks very promising. This is perhaps the best looking wrestling game ever. From watching the match, I got the impression that Midway tried to capture the feel of WWF No Mercy for the next generation. We asked TNA Superstar Samoa Joe, who had a huge part in helping Midway, about the simularities between No Mercy and TNA Impact and he said "it will be better than No Mercy." We also asked a Midway PR rep the same question and he stated that "it's unlike any other wrestling game on the market. What were doing graphically and with gameplay is different from any wrestling game ever released." The game utilizes the Unreal Engine and one of the developers promised that the game will run at a rock solid 60 frames per second. He also promises ultra smooth animations.

The lighting effects that the engine utilizes were also very impressive, considering that the game is only 60% complete.

We will have all of the footage from not only the press conference, but the fan event later today! Later this evening we will have interviews with the TNA Superstars as well as Midway developers and the videos will be up later tonight on the site!

Also, don't forget that we will have a special live edtion of GamingRing Radio at Midnight tonight where we'll give our thoughts and opinions of the game. We will have a link later tonight where were doing the radio program. Stay tuned!

SOME info is indeed upsetting (Like only 16 caws spots, etc.), But what you have to remember is that it's their first attempt at this game. I'm really looking forward to it. Story Mode sounds amusing, annoyed that you can't control a wrestler but it's something different I suppose. Gameplay sounds superb.

I was wondering when will someone make a thread for that game, good game IMO, I think it's going to redefine its genre. I've seen some gameplay videos on gamespot and I'm impressed with the gameplay as much as I'm impressed with the graphics. That should motivate the Smackdown vs Raw games as well so they deliver better games. Competition is a sweet thing.

Yes, it sure is. An example of this is when RAW and Nitro were at it in the ratings battle on Monday Nights. Both were forced to put on great shows.

Thing is with SmackDown vs. RAW games (I am not talking about THQ's old SmackDown games upto Here Comes the Pain - As they rocked), is that for some reason the gameplay just isn't that fun to play. Yeah it's great for a couple of weeks, but once you've played as every superstar, it gets very repetitive. Don't know why, i've just always felt that since the Original SmackDown vs. RAW (Which was the worst THQ wrestling game that they've ever done).

I'm extremely happy with the fact that Midway have announced that the gameplay will be fun to play, and it'll be a pick up and play game. I cannot wait to play The Ultimate X Match, or the King of The Mountain match. I know it will have plenty of flaws in the first version, but I have a feeling that the gameplay will kill SmackDown's fun. I honestly don't think that I will pick up SmackDown vs. RAW 2008 after i've got TNA iMPACT!, even if it's full of bugs (As i'm sure it will be - it's there first shot at it, but they can build on it from there).

I'm also not botheryd with the CAW season as if you really wan't to be a wrestler on the game, you can just copy his model. Also midway are focusing a lot on CAW mode too, and they should look as good as the in-game wrestlers. Which sounds great to me.

They definitely sound like they know what they're on about (with No Mercy - which, rumours would have it, is apparently going to be updated for release on WiiWare, which would cause me to wank myself unconcious), so this game does sound promising.

However, I don't believe they elaborate on the grappling system. Yes, one button grapples, but, after that, and like the AKI games, does a D-pad position and a corresponding button (A, B, etc.) perform a move? But that was obviously the key mechanic of AKI games and I really hope it is replicated here.

It will probably be a let-down, but lets hope it challenges the Smackdown vs Raw series, as so far it owns the wrestling gaming market.

I'll probably but this game as i'm getting tired of SD vs RAW. Can't wait to use AJ Styles.

They say that they're trying to make it the No Mercy of this generation but I have a feeling it's going to be JUST like Smackdown. Race to the finish, matches over in 3 minutes. I really hope it is good though and I'm very excited about it.

looks good but im looking forward to the ufc game

Me too.

I got this game today and its fucking shit. A real disappointment. The Ultimate X match was fun for about five minutes but the gameplay is wad and there's barely any moves. I've waited 8 years for a good wrestling game and this certainly isn't fucking it.

BELIEVE
Should just take it back then, use the receipt. I was tempted to rent it, but I checked on the Xbox forums first to see if it was worth it and the TNA Impact section was basically full of complaints so I backed out immediately. Only has something like 25 wrestlers, limited entrances and PS2 gameplay ?

Sounds mint. Give me WCW Nitro anyday! Lets fight in the Jungle!

BELIEVE
The WCW Nitro game was the bollocks man, loved it. You should just download a few demos and take it from there, the "Pure" demo is pretty entertaining, and Fallout 3 looks to be a promising title. Plus, PES 2009 is about 4 weeks away while COD5 is only about 6 weeks away.

Best thing to do in my opinion would be to get all your money back, then just wait a bit, test a few games and make a decision.
