Very Close (16- 17 meters) Free Kick Tips

When you have a direct free kick just on the 16 meter box, it is almost impossible to shoot aover the wall and actually score. 'till now, I've only seen the COM do it against me but now I can return a shot to.

There are 3 ways (for me atleast) to do it:

1. The classic way- shooting to the corner above the keeper with :square: + up + :triangle: (there are other thread that explain it with more details).

2. The tricky way- you aim to shoot under the just as they jump or betwwen their legs. This can be done by filling up the bar with :circle: + down (also, there are other more detailed threads).

Now, I've found another way that works great for me:

3. My way- here you actually aim above and and over the wall. This uses the cross controls. When you have a direct free kick from (16- 17 and with a bad keeper 18 meters) from the center of the goal, this comes in handy. You need to aim the angle just next to the post close to you, and if you want to curl it, aim a bit further than that.

Now, you will need to press :R2: + :circle:. In game this makes you cross the ball high and then dip sharply. OK, you need to press and hold the :R2: button, and fill the gauge bar up to 3/4 of the half, with :circle:. If you want to curl the ball, press the direction of the close post to you.

This will make the ball go over the wall and dip straight to the top corner, leaving the keeper only the slightest chnace to save it.

If you shoot too weak- the keeper will save it, and too strong- it will go over the goal. Because of that, try filling only 3/4 of the half of the gauge bar.

Good luck.

16-17 is a good distance for a power shoot to shot.
I have tried to get a person with the distance shot talent, and let a 2nd person roll the ball to him, before the rolling the ball, aim the for the pole that is not block by the wall.
I think my way is easier since is more a controlled distance shot than a trick shot

by far the easiest way to score a free kick from a close distance, is to aim the ball in the corner where the keeper is standing. hold up, then tap square about 35% of the bar is full, then press triangle before the player shoots. best to pick a player with high shot power, ronaldo, xavi, works almost all of the time for me

Unless the keeper is crap then they will almost always save it if it's on their side of the goal, regardless of power or placement.

The lay-off and shot is the easiest but i always found it boring.

OP's method of using cross to drop it over the wall is pretty effective but it varies a great deal depending on the players long passing speed statistic. If you can get the hang of it then you can use players who hit longballs fast to do it from long range if you press up instead of R2.

untrue

try it, it works for me almost every second time. once u get the aiming right, and power right, it flys in

These are the easiest distances to score from

1. Pure drive it into top corner (UP+SQUARE+R1 and then in run up hold TRIANGLE)

2. Under the wall with holding CIRCLE+DOWN

3. Aim for over tha wall - (R2+SQUARE+HOLD DOWN TO South/East or SouthWest)

4. Go for little chip using CIRCLE

I same side where goalie is. aim just abit outside the outer post and curl it in. it'll be a good save but better chances of a good rebound position of the ball (other than the ball going out for a corner)

The tricky part is not about which buttons to press, it's about getting the power bar and the direction correct. Which means practice and practice. Don't worry about which buttons to press, all you need is the direction key and a light finger on the shoot button.
