What If FIFA 07 manages to surpass PES6?

I have been reading alot of negative comments towards FIFA 07 recently, not only on this site (for obvious reasons) but across the web in general. The main reason for this is the tired cliche that FIFA 07 will be the same old rehash we have been treated to year in and year out.

I read many gaming magazines and generally keep tabs on game scores and reviews, but one thing that has stuck out this time around is the change of mood from many reviewers after they managed to get a preview play on FIFA 07.

One in particular is Gamesmaster, a dedicated independent games magazine form the UK. I have purchased GM for many years and can honestly say that they lie in the same camp as the rest of the people out there slating the FIFA series, and have always scored the FIFA games around the 70% mark as opposed to PES'S 90%+ score.

However after reading the months FIFA 07 preview, by GM's PES soccer enthusiast. I have to say that I am really looking forward to FIFA 07. This reviewer has always condemned FIFA for ripping people off with it razzmatazz mask of graphics, sound and licences, but more for rolling out the same tired engine every year.

According to his preview, he was asked if FIFA 07 managed to surpass PES6, and his answer was ... maybe! He added that "...EA had to tear me away kicking and screaming from the console after 4 solid hours of play and no FIFA has ever managed that before!..."

With this in mind, I don't think it's fair to condemn EA without actually getting your hands dirty with FIFA 07. Also we have to remember that the game has been in development since way before FIFA 06 by a different coding company, so should be a vast change from FIFA 06 or WC 2006.

With this in mind, the one question I would ask all is that if FIFA 07 did manage to surpass PES 6 in terms of pure gameplay, then what will you do? Will you still shun FIFA just becuase of what it is or will you stick with PES6?

Your thoughts guys.....

Probably, we'd all die from the ensuing nuclear winter and satan would start skating to work.

But seriously i'd stick with pro. i like it more.

I've seen videos of Fifa 07 on youtube and people have been saying its just the same old gameplay as ever and you can see that the way the players run and cross the ball.

Fifa - Non Editable.
PES - Editable.

PES wins.

I’ve always remained open-minded towards games in general, although I despise EA and their marketing ploys. I will say that FIFA 07 looks promising and it looks like they’ve done more work on it than Konami has done with PES6. I have to say I’m appalled by the responses on this forum I’d expect people to at least back up their opinions rather than the blatant “fanboy” responses. Which coincidently enough is why FIFA does so well.

They say these things about Fifa every year - but it's always the same crap. Who knows? - it may one day catch up with or even overtake PES, but it will not be in the near future that's for sure.

Agreed definetely.

Every year they build up the hype, they get one or two magazines believing it may do well. However it's still the same old crock, but somehow these FIFA numbskulls still believe it's second to none, it sheerly amazes me.

I can't see it overtaking PES anytime soon but whilst saying that we already know it's overtaken them in the sales don't we ?

Well, after seeing the videos and screenshots of PES6 I can't say that i'm all that impressed on the graphical side of it (i'm talking about next-gen here) whereas i have been amazed by the screenshots of FIFA 07 for the 360. But this has been the case every year.

I'm also usually open minded and buy both PES & FIFA, but not so this year. I am buying PES6, but i will wait for a demo on Xbox LIve Marketplace before i decide on FIFA. I believe this is the only weay of deciding whether a game is any good or not, by actually playing it. I hate it when people judge a game on a video or screens. Plus we won't know what it will actually be like untill the full game comes out.

I also read the article in GamesMaster and was blown away by what the guy was saying, that FIFA might actually challenge PES. But we will see come October, untill then i am keeping an eye on both.

I only know that I will be trying FIFA07 as I do every year, EA are, at least in american grown sports, the masters and it wont be long before the surpass the PES Series if Seabass doesn't pull is finger out and start doing some work on the fundamentals like the Master League, number of teams etc. If those that had played both FIFA06 and PES5 gave a rating of say 1-10 for game play and the same again for the Management side, I am sure the average for both games would be close. if you went further and added a score for presentation then FIFA would win outright.

The game I play (WE10) is not the game that I bought, thanks to the guys that do the editing, without this its just a poor imitation.

Surely your kidding right ? They look awful, hideous and possibly the worst they've been in ages. I'll show some examples of the ever-so immense XBox 360 graphics we will be expecting:

red, thats why PES is the best, gameplay.

It is mate, but as players of this game we want a little more, the gameplay has always been the best, and I would of been more than happy for a non change in player movements for a year if they had concentrated on other aspects of the game i.e. the master league.

The first 2 shots are from the regular Xbox mate...............

Anyways, for us guys in N.America it's quite a simple solution for me every year, I get FIFA in the fall and trade it in for WE in January/February when it comes out.

Sorry guys, I don't want to look like a traitor, but Fifa always had a slight edge over PES on graphics. But the gameplay of PES surpass Fifa by a mile. Game physics, my friends, Fifa is made by canadians (yes, my country), and very few people in canada appreciates or understand soccer well. You wouldn't expect canadians to develop a good soccer physics engine.

i'm not too sure. I use to play fifa but PES is so much more realistic. You can tell differences between player size. Bigger players able to hold ball to smaller and smaller players (Wright-Phillips) utilize their quickness to get around bigger ones. First time i played the game I was surprised to see u could kick the ball out for fair play when someone is injured, and still get the ball back. Plus there are more animation count ingame than there are in Fifa. I read that Fifa's fixing alot of these stuff (animation, gameplay and actually being able to tell speed differencial !!!!). But they still have a long way to go to catch up to PES gameplay wise.
