What If FIFA 07 manages to surpass PES6?

FIFA being better then PES is like West Ham beating Chelsea to the title. It's not gonna happen this year. Yes, the Hammers (EA) have fluked up these world class players (a new playable engine) and will be all the better for it, but at the end of the day, Chelsea's (Konami) experience and class will come through.

They've been in the industry of football games for longer then Konami, yet EA still haven't managed to build a decent football engine. They've tried but their sheer lack of knowledge on how the game plays means that no matter how many gimmicks they've thrown at it, they still can't crack a decent engine. If they don't know how the game works, no matter how many times they rebuild their engine, they're never gonna make it good enough. Even if they get close, Konami will just push on and take it to another level.

This year could well be the closest yet, for sure, but Konami will edge it again and come back stronger next time. Remember, FIFA has already had 2 next-gen games out already. We all know that in 2 games time in the PES series, it'll be much much better then it is now.

There are three main things that will keep me playing a football game for a long time, they are; good realistic game play (not just the same thing over and over), An indepth career mode which will allow a bit of managing (ie trading players and improving your squad) and good online play.

I would say that most people would give PES and FIFA 1 tick each for the first two but can anybody compare how previous titles have stacked up online

I own a xbox 360 and I have played fifa world cup 06 online. I played a few games that were absolutely perfect, others that there was so much lag u could hardly play and quite a few where the game dropped out half way through.

I doubt you could ever gaurentee perfect online play. It's just one of those things. I don't think its as easy to get a good online on a console as it is on a PC. I don't know why - probably because it takes time bed in the technology. It'll probably be sorted by the next-generation of consoles if not, later in the life of the current next-gen.

Gold star sir!

My brother buys every football game out, then he just lends them to me and ends up letting me keep them if I do random stuff for him i;e, making him a CD or downloading a movie. all good.

Greenegg you ding, you have got both of the 360's fifa's haven't you!?

If Jesus were alive he'd have you.

Luckily I had one and it was robbed which was a blessing. It was my brothers game and he preffered it to PES. I laughed at him and hit him

The one question I would ask all is that if FIFA 07 did manage to surpass PES 6 in terms of pure gameplay, then what will you do? Will you still shun FIFA just becuase of what it is or will you stick with PES6?

Your thoughts guys.....

To be honest... i actually think FIFA would have to be considerably better than PES over a few years for me to think about buying that EA shit again.

I second that.
Let me just say I have played Fifa infact my first soccer game was Fifa. However, after getting introduced to PES I can't see my self going back to Fifa.
It is like a day and night. Now I am refering to game play and everything else is secondary. Realy, if PES inproves in graphics and licensing and what have you well that will be a nice additon but PES has what I want and it is the game play.
As a fan of Football/Soccer and as a player it is the next best thing.

It is indisputed among REAL football/soccer fans that Konami is king when it comes to making realistic and fun footy games. The thing that Konami needs to keep in mind is that sooner or later EA will actually create (or copy) a good physics engine, and with so many licenses and a decent manager mode (lets be honest, the depth and authenticity of the manager mode in FIFA leaves the master league looking a little lame) they (EA) will start to really compete against the likes of Pro Evo Soccer.

In my opinion, I thinks its VERY important for Konami to make sure they continue to secure more and more licenses over the next few generations of PES titles. I know that at the moment they say they can't afford it, but lets just say hypothetically that in two years FIFA create an almost identical game engine to PES. With both titles playing almost identical, FIFA's official licenses will, (I think) mean that Konami's competitive advantage is gone.

I'd love to see two proper footy games out there, and I'd love to see EA get their act together. But as it stands, can't really see it happening.

I almost agree with you entirely here, the exceptions being the teams you chose for your anology, I think Arsenal or (dare I say it) Manchaster United as they have a far better history and pedigree than Chelsea, and Instead of West Ham, Liverpool or Newcastle as they have promised so much yet have failed to deliver thus far (hopefully I can remove Liverpool by the end of this season!).

I have not played fifa nor PES6 as yet obviously, but I have played WE10 and apart from questionable keeping at times, ludacrus if you include the occasional wonder to the corner flag, it is very good, and from the interviews it seems that the keeping, plus player movement and defending positions have been improved futher which if this is the case will make PES6 by far the best yet. I just hope the lag as been dealt with.

If Oxford ever put the word 'fanboyism' in the dictionary, this should be the definition.

Just been on the FIFA boards and they say FIFA has got a 9/10 in the OPS2 mag. The mods are closing all the topics though.

Few quotes

EA nails footy at long, long last.

It's been a long wait, but FIFA has finally managed to meld both style and substance.

FIFA 07 is a serious challenger for the football crown

The end result is a game you buy into emotionally

A magazine as biased as Official Playstation Magazine....still not convinced. Why don't they release the demo?

Dan

There's a demo out for readers of........The Sun : | and if you pre-order from certain stores you get one.

The 360 version is meant to be very different, less teams, leagues and a new engine, so even if the PS2 version is 9/10 the 360 version could be same old same old.

We shall see.

Off the pitch, only 157 teams are included, compared to more than 500 on current-generation platforms. Only the top leagues and top divisions made the cut, and EA says it was just too difficult to bring everyone over to the 360.

That's abit shit. If there's no second divisons for each league, it'll grow old fast.

Okay first I was planning on staying away from threads like this, because they always come up, but I’ve seen it’s gotten a bit of steam so would like to comment.

Firstly, Jamez answered this question in his first post, well it should have. Which ever is the better product is the one I would get, and I thought that was the same with people who like PES (Since PES doesn’t have licenses, more teams, etc) it’s the game play which makes us love it, so if another game had better game play we would get it?

Anyways I see people are having a ‘loyalty’ to PES, such as with the playstation brand, when really they are consumers in a free market, which means you shouldn’t really be loyal for any particular notion.

I agree that I do have a bit of loyalty to PES/WE which means I hate FIFA/EA games. I do feel that the fact that Konami stepped in and innovated the world of football games so much, is the reason why you can even talk about FIFA with any dignity, because they ripped so much of Pro too still make it, some-what playable, its unbelievable.

However even with all the innovations that Konami made, and fifa copied, we still as consumers should buy the better product. Its not our duty to be loyal to Konami because they have made so many standards in todays football games. We paid for a product and we got it: a good one. If FIFA takes those changes and improves them we should also make the decision to buy fifa, as long as its good. If FIFA was to become better then PES, it will force PES to become better, BETTER then what is right now.

Just as FIFA has slowly started to crawl itself out of the gutter it was once in, (remember FIFA world cup 2002?) with its dodgy game play, to now days, people will actually try and say its as good as PES!
Remember people, competition is GOOD, really good. It forces PES to make changes and keep moving forward, to make sure it still sells. Likewise when FIFA was selling squarely on its name, we got games such as FIFA WC 2002 edition. Now with PES, the changes from each version has been smaller and smaller, why? Because FIFA was so far behind it wasn’t sensible to name them both in the same sentence. If FIFA surpassed PES, I can assure you that the amount of new ideas and changes made to PES would be amazing. We consumers would get better products then what would have been created, and therefore get the best product and win.

Directly on subject though, if fifa got better then Pro, I would buy it and PES, until the gap became too much for me too still find any incentive in playing a Pro game.

Being somewhat loyal to pro, I would give them the benefit of the doubt for a few editions, and give them a chance to catch up; Konami would defiantly improve the game play vastly if FIFA eclipsed it. Also having 2 good football games, can not be a bad thing? :D However I will say this. We should thank our lucky stars that winning eleven and pes are around. If not I can assure you that all the changes PES made and FIFA copied, would not have existed. Don’t believe me go look at the American favourite, madden (American football game), made also by EA sports. With no good competition the only changes made are roster lineup and licenses, and a few minor tweaks. I have American friends who cry for some one like konami to make a game which surpassed Madden even if it didn’t have licenses. Konami saved us gamers from the same fate.

It seems that EA is eager to improve their games every edition(whether that works out well is a different thing), whereas Konami seems to build on an already great product. A little more workethics would suit Konami.

Ahh now people are understanding. If you've read this far go back and work out who is an adult and who is a teenager (prob still living at home with his siblings).

People we need to be more specific and make more mention of "competition" "monopoly" and a "free market economy". Maybe if we discussed in these terms we'd avoid all fanboy comments.

Its good to see that people understand pro evo has a good gameplay engine (the only reason we are all posting) but also has very serious floors.

Oh finally

if FIFA 07 did manage to surpass PES 6 in terms of pure GAMEPLAY, then what will you do?

Well as sane free adult... I have never played FIFA its seems from the posts that FIFA has formation and editing issues but a superior master league. If it is completely better however...

Well would I buy the new lexus IS250 or a LADA

simple answer really. Get your thumb out, Seabass and stop shovelling us a game with two licensed teams and no second division.

I hope FIFA 07 360 is excellent and then I'll very anxiously hope PES7 is mindblowing.

I dont think FIFA will ever be as good as PES.

But FIFA will always have the upper hand in Licences which is a pitty!
