Why can defenders blast the ball so far?

I'm sure everyone's already noticed it before, when your defending in your own half and just hold the long pass button till the meter is filled, the ball usually ends up near the opponent's gk. This is way too extreme, they even kick it that far with their weak foot from my own penalty box.

In those types of situations, the ball really shouldn't be flying much further than the half way line unless the player had plenty of time and was properly aligned and positioned to make the kick. Right now I can be running towards my own back line with Lucio and hold the long pass button (without turning first) to blast the ball three quarters up the pitch with his left foot! Crazy.

What doesn't help is the speed that the ball travels when cleared. I've seen player punt a ball up pitch to clear it but not at the speed we see on PES. It must be the ball physics.

Yeah, at times, the ball doesn't actually come back down. I've cleared the ball in my own box, and it's gone over my opponents bar before! :p

I've only ever noticed this under one circumstance. When your defender long passes the ball as he is running towards his own goal line, and does the desperation quick turn leg sweeping kick. For instance if the ball is traveling towards the goal line (not necessarily the goal) and as you chase down the ball you hold down long pass, when he catches up to it, his very first touch is to swing around kick the ball and fall backwards.

Something about swinging around and kicking a moving ball must generate a ton of power in this game.

Perhaps this move is derived from the infamous japanese karate hurricane kick, as performed by Ryu and Ken in Street Fighter.
