The people that slate the xbox 360 dont have a clue. They think the PS3 in going to be mind blowing,So i thought i would tell you's, the graphics you have seen are not in game.Did you know the PS3 has ben put back to 2007,and people on the forums say that microsoft sucks and they are crap.

The ps3 is going to be an amazing system, more powerful than the Xbox 360 that's for sure, the only 2 bad things are: the waiting time and the price (which hasn't yet been announced but it's going to be high for sure).

You're acting like children.

The Xbox 360 is an excellent console, the PS3 will be an excellent console, both will have good points and draw backs. 50! I expect better than you to read whole-heartedly into such a biased text. It's likely the earliest we'll see the PS3 in Europe is early 2007, the launch will be staggered as Sony will not be able to cope with demand for a world wide release. Japan will get theirs first, hopefully spring 2006, USA six months later and then Europe after that, as it always is with Sony and Nintendo.

As for me I'm currently loving my 360, and I'm sure I'll love the PS3 when I purchase that.

Why are you even bothered about what people think about an inanimate object that sits infront of your tv.

The thing I don't like about the 360 is, you can't find one! Shops are taking the display models out because they need the room for christmas queues and you can't buy one so whats the point displaying it. Also most of the launch games are available on other formats. Both these negatives will change with time though.

As for the PS3, if it isn't more powerful then the Xbox360, I think the developers are a lot more ambitious then. Motorstorm, Lair, Heavenly Sword, KillZone and The Getaway all look amazing and they're from the little studios. Then you have Metal Gear, Gran Turismo, Devil may Cry from the bigger games developers and they look amazing and we know they'll have the gameplay. There is a Sony event at the start of January that should hopefuly show off more of the PS3.

I'll add my rant at the end to Microsoft...How come Sony can bring out "God of War" on a system thats nearly 6 years old and Microsoft feel it necessary to kill of the Xbox when its about a year and half or so younger?

Mick at least know what you're talking about, Sony will have the same problems. The number of faulty Xbox 360 is a lower percentage than is average for a new product, therefore the chances are Sony's PS3 will have more trouble than Microsoft especially considering their past record. A higher percentage of PS2 are returned within the warranty for faults than either of the other two. Sony are also having difficulty even getting the console to work... I'd be highly skeptical of a smoother release than the Xbox 360.

As for over heating, it can quite easily be the consumers fault, the length of play and conditions it's in are vital some people put the console in Video cabinets and the like where there is not enough space and block the fans.

As for the more ambition which in-game footage have you seen Travis? A lot of developers still don't even have developer kits for the PS3 which is signalling that an early 2006 release is looking doubtful even for Japan.

I'm getting both. Both of them have games i can't do without and i have an X-box and a PS2 right now. This console war thing is childish, but i'm glad it exists, only to make both companys out do themselves and produce exellent games on both consoles. While they're competing with each other and others are having a pointless "console war" over the consoles, people like me are just lapping it up and getting a ton of great games in for both.

If you can't afford both get either of them. Both have good games just get the one with the games that suit you. I'm sure the Revolution will be good too, although im not planning on getting one.

I didn't think you'd be on the "anti-Sony" bandwagon. Up to date Sony have sent out around 5000 development kits, first party and big companies have had them since last year, didn't you see the stuff at E3 in May? Obviously not everyone that wants one has one, but the final development kits go out this month, they are the ones with all the middleware. These final kits are a lot like the kits Microsoft gave out a few months before launch so Sony are keeping the same timeline as Microsoft.

If you haven't seen any videos here is a nice link "Link" of a lot of PS3 videos.

And also here's a link of the E3 footage "Link", E3 was in May this year so hopefully most of the games you see represented should be out for launch. Definately look at "Heavenly Sword" video, it is very good and if you go to the developers website "Link" you will see that the footage is realtime and running at 1080p and that was back in May so fingers crossed it will be ready for launch.

Another ambitious title is the infamous KillZone 2, we still don't know if the footage was realtime or not, people are still arguing over it. Hopefully though, as I said before, there is a Consumer Electronics event at the start of January "Link" which may give us some new info on PS3. If it doesn't there is a Sony conference in February that will.

My favourites are "warhawk" and "I8". Just look at all the planes flying around in the warhawk trailer, sweet. And I8, its an FPS made by Insomniac, the Ratchet and Clank guys!!11!!??! so it should be awesome.

Halo 3, PGR3, Perfect Dark Zero? Also I'd seriously hope that the Playstation online service is improved, as Xbox Live on the 360 is phenomenal.

Halo 3 should hopefully be an awesome game (which we haven't seen any footage of?), but Perfect Dark and PGR3. Did you really think that on the new generation of consoles you'd be playing "a fancy looking Golden Eye" and a racer that has this generation physics, no dynamic weather conditions and its best feature is being able to take photos at any time!! The Xbox 360 will have amazing games, the videos I have linked are next generation gamesfullstop Microsoft was just so busy trying to get their console out first they forgot to show how titles will look in a year or two, ie: Those PS3 videos, and instead showed/released PC ports and average titles.

The conclusion I've come to now is that Sony has shown me what it wants from the future of video games. Sony has bought "Guerilla Games" (Killzone) and "Ninja Theory" (Heavenly Sword) two extremely ambitious dev studios with very "next gen" titles. Substantial developers have shown me what they want from next generation, Metal Gear Solid, Devil may Cry and that final fantasy tech demo all have what I'd consider the "next gen" look.

IBM have sent out performance specs of "the cell" (which is the cpu in the PS3) and it looks very powerful. Sony have used Nvidia to make a graphics card for the PS3, which the developers love, and they are putting new technologies into the console like bluray and blutooth that makes it look "future proof".

As for online, I don't really care about that. I have heard Sony will improve on it. Does anyone have a PSP because I've heard they will try to implement a lot from that, like a web browser and some sort of peer to peer file sharing system for Sony downloads. And it should be free.

To end I don't like the original xbox, it didn't have any games that interested me, but a lot of people did like it. Fortunately for them Microsoft have improved on what they had for the xbox with better online and better intergration in the whole "Windows Media Centre" setup. So if you like the previous xbox buy the new one because its better and they will continue with all the established games franchises. But don't think you'll be able to go on and on and on about the graphics advantage like you used to (not pointing at anyone in particular). And also don't think Microsoft will magically gain loads of developers to give them a vast array of genre titles, like the PS1 and PS2 had, just because the 360 has come out 6 months earlier!

I'm not on the anti-sony bandwagon, I'll be anxiously awaiting my PS3 as soon as it's ready for me to pre-order. On ther other hand I still don't expect to have my hands on one until 2007.

As for PGR3 fair enough each to their own, but Perfect Dark have you played on it? A fancy looking Goldeneye? There's bloody nothing bad about that, PDZ's gameplay is much better than Halo 2 and with far better graphics making it easily the best FPS available on any console.

Anyway to be perfectly honest, I pretty much agree with you. I'm really just trying to balance the skewed opinions in here as we have a lot of anti-microsoft people around. As with last generation consoles your preference will be personal choice. The most popular was the PS2 which was the least powerful console available, so all of those rattling on about the PS3 being the best due to it's power and graphics are being very hypocritical.

Im not for or against Microsoft/Sony as I have both a PS2 & XBOX, but looking at the specs of both new consoles(360 & PS3) I'd definetely wait for the PS3 as its supposedly 2 times faster than the XBOX 360. And as for the first post, from what source did you get the idea that the PS3 is being put back 'til 2007?

E3 in May:
May I remind you that the Phil Harrison of SCEE said they were not real and that they were video. The only thing close to them running in real-time, was they were built based on PS3 spec. Which doesnt mean a single thing if you remember the demos shown at the past E3's for PS2 before it launched. Still to this day, no game has lived up to those built to spec demos shown for the PS2. What makes you think the PS3 will be different?

The RSX was still on paper during E3 (Nvidia confirmed this a few months later when it was still only on paper), it did not exist yet. So please do explain how a company had real-time footage of a game back then?

Back on-topic, why do I slate the Xbox 360, because I already have three friends with fucked up systems. M$ can say the defect rate is low all they want, but it is a pure lie. Two people have systems that scratch games beyond reason. The other had to send theirs back for repair due to system crashes every 30-45 mins. Let me think, when the PS2 was launched, every damn person I knew got one, only one persons died within one year. My xbox 360 mates, didnt even have theirs for a week. Oh did I mention less people I know bought a 360 than I knew bought a PS2 at launch. M$ also says windows doesnt have very many security holes, bullshit. Why should I believe the 360 failure rate is lower than average, when they can't even be honest about the security holes in windows? Did you also know that M$ will not release a number for the faulty systems? Thats right, they refuse to release the numbers........

Then we have Nintendo. Unlike $ony and M$ who want to make graphics systems, Nintendo is concentrating on gameplay and changing the way we play. It will be my console of choice due to this. I want something new, not just better graphics. They have even hinted at a $150 launch! If I want a system that has great power and graphics, I will stick to my PC. Some people might say, "you wont get certain games", you're right I wont get exclusives, but I wouldnt have got them anyways without buying the console it is exclusive on. M$ developed the XNA, the best development environment seen in ages. The beauty of it has to do with cross-platform games. Thats right, making a game for the xbox, xbox 360, and PC has never been easier. It does most of the porting for you. The PC will gain many new games due to this ease of ports. You can already notice it recently, Matrix: Path of Neo, Prince Of Persia: Two thrones, etc. On the flipside the 360 having PC ports, Call of Duty 2, Quake 4, etc. They are all very obvious ports, but hey, at least I don't have to own every console and a PC to play most games anymore.

That's just a misquote taken too far by people that don't believe the next generation of consoles will poop over all of peoples expectations. All Phil Harrison said was that the PS3 demos were all video playback so there would be less chance of anything going wrong compared to running all of the stuff directly from one of the early development kits.

Look at the "Heavenly Sword" website, they state they had their game running fast at 1080p before E3. Even if that was the only video there that was realtime (which I doubt) it still shows the PS3 is capable of a lot.

Which doesnt mean a single thing if you remember the demos shown at the past E3's for PS2 before it launched. Still to this day, no game has lived up to those built to spec demos shown for the PS2. What makes you think the PS3 will be different?

What are you talking about? Back at that E3 the Gran Turismo and Tekken demos were based on early code of the games, so obviously their standards were kept up and exceeded with sequels.

^^This you could say "technically" wasn't met, but I'm not complaining when I play Soul Calibur 3, Silent Hill 3 or Resident Evil 4 which has comparable facial models.

Lastly you tell me which one is the Final Fantasy tech demo from E3 before PS2 release, and which one is FinalFantasy X2?

The PS2 games have gone way beyond what I thought would ever happen back in 2000. Like Deftone said I'm sure someone could give me technical details of what was given at E3 before the PS2 release and I'm sure technically the PS2 didn't met the polygon pushing numbers given but look at the pics and think of the games you've played thay have been top quality. I'm sure all this technical jargon has only come along since Microsoft came along with a console, before that people were just bothered about games.

I don't really know why I've gone to this effort to prove this because I am not arsed at all about the "technical power" of consoles just the games. I remember sitting playing SSX on my PS2 back in 2000 when my PCgeek friend told me Microsoft would be releasing an uber powerful console in a year or so that would making these graphics look crap. I just shrugged and told him I've enjoyed playing my Sony PS1 for the last 5 years and seen all the amazing games and franchises build up, So unless you're telling me all those developers are going to move across to Microsoft (the most hated company in the World especially in the digital/creative society) then I don't care how much more powerful it is. I suggest xbox owners enjoy their games as well.

Hopefully we'll see some more stuff about PS3 in January and February and I'll post some stuff on here and everyone can argue about what's going to be possible or not in the next 6 years of games consoles!!

I sense selective reading on your behalf.

GamesIndustry.biz: One question on the lips of many people at the moment: how much of what we saw in the PlayStation 3 demos was actually running in real-time?

Phil Harrison: Everything in the demos was real-time.

And what about the game footage clips?

Not all of that - in fact, none of it was real-time because it was all running off video. If you make a presentation to two and a half thousand people, you're going to put some of it on video just to be on the safe side.

I've been asked this question a lot. The way we put those videos together, everything was done to specification. Everything was done to PS3 spec. Virtually everything used in-game assets; some things were rendered
Done to spec does not mean done with a devkit, it means done to what they think it can do, aka theoretical.

Lastly you tell me which one is the Final Fantasy tech demo from E3 before PS2 release, and which one is FinalFantasy X2?
Left is FFX2 and Right is FF tech demo. Here is the problem though. That FFX2 pic is deceiving. Look at it, notice that all jaggies are almost gone(you can even see they have been cleaned up afterwards. That was not the case when I played it on my PS2 or any other PS2 for that matter. The game was jaggie filled just like every PS2 game. God of War is the only game as a whole to come close to the built to spec PS2 demos before the PS2 release.

As for Heavenly Sword and what developers say. Yeah I remember the whole 1080i for Gran Turismo 4. The developers went on and on, when it ended being nothing more than upscaled 480p and it didnt even look better. I had GT4 and I own an HDTV. The difference between 480p and 1080i are very big, but GT4 had zero difference. So much for what developers say IMO.

Go back and look at the xbox tech demos like raven. Look at ATI or Nvidia, alwasy have some new killer GPU, but when out they dont seem so killer. Think about the difference between the 9700pro and the 9800pro minimal at best, but ATI made it out to be some big thing. $ony isnt the only one to exaggerate.

Its called marketing....

Both the 360 and the PS3 are powerful, but I don't think they are what M$ and $ony make them out to be. I have a few friends with 360's. I am very disappointed to say the least. M$ has no excuse, since the 360 is "supposedly" so easy to program for.

Let me make this clear. I don't care which is more powerful. I just want to let people know not to have high expectations. I may be biased as being a PC gamer also, but I was really let down this past generation.
