Never really took much notice.. I assumed the ball was on the right side of the line whenever a player was running with it like that

That isnt out ! Not in real football anyway. If you look from above you must be able to see a gap between the ball and the line (the ball must be completely out). In the picture part of the ball is on the line so it is still in play.

Nope, in real life the ball would be out. Because, a human would be able to see that the part of the ball touching the grass, is out of play.

But Konami can't see that unfortunately, so they just have to judge it by the whole ball. Get your facts right guys.

My verdict: out of play.

Bravo that is rubbish - the whole of the ball needs to be out and the picture shows that at least some of the ball is still in - so it is in play !

Exactly! Thickest touchline I ever saw though, someone should have a word with the groundsman...

It's not whether the ball looks out, it's whether the ball is touching the line or not, and because a ball is round, it's going to look like it's touching the line from above.

But if we were to have a view from below, you'd be able to see that just the side of the ball is overlapping the line, but not touching it, so it's still out.

Bravo it doenst matter that the ball is round - if you look down from above the ball and some part of the ball covers the line then the ball is still in play - thats the rule !

I'll continue to argue that it's only in if some of the ball is touching the line, and in this case, it isn't.

9.03 Is a ball touching the line in or out? What if it no longer touches the line, but the edge of the ball is still vertically over the line even though the rest of it is out?
In both these cases, the ball is still in. In order to be out, the ball must completely leave the field; if part of the ball is vertically over the line, then the entire ball has not left the 3-dimensional field.

Yep, whole ball has to be over the line...so Bravoboy is 100% wrong :D

But back to the point of the topic....In that pic which the guy was complaining about saying the ball was over, its happened to me a few times, but when I went to replay in one occassion the whole ball was actually over the line but it was still a play on! And I'm dead certain the whole ball was over the line, in the first pic on this thread the ball is quite clearly still in but if you saw mine you'd say it was out.

Ball is in play on this occasion but I have seen it cross the goalline itself completely, and no goal awarded. I checked a gazillion times, it was allt the way over the line. Not in this case though.
