I have always used 4-42 and if in need of a goal i go 4-3-3 with one of the strinkers as like an attaking RMF. You get lots of space to put crosses in with that.

My fav formation has always been the 3-5-2 with two defensive mids. Now i've switched to a 4-1-2-2-1, that's a 4-3-3 with two ofensive midfielders and two SD'S and one striker. Works really good as has a strong defense because the two centerbacks and the defensive midfielder and also a great attack with three forwards and two mid's creating chances and good passes to the forwards.

I also like the 3-4-3 especially when facing human oponents.

According to:
1)The team abilities and which players I you prefer in the starting linup.
2)Your opponent ability and formation thus you may have some tactical changes.

Most propably I'll go for the classic formation 4-4-2 or 4-5-1 with some changes in the midfielders positioning or 5-2-2-1 in some matches when I do find myself in the lead and my opponent is very tough and is trying to score by any mean.

When the oponent gets tough i get a defensive strategy (i manage it manually) and also apply a counterattack strategy manually also. It works.

I do everything manually during the match as well, of course according to the match requirements.

If ya chose Inter Milan, play with a 4-3-3 formation with Winged forwards. If you play as AC Milan, play with a 5-3-2 formation, Nobody gets through your defence ;)

4-3-3 is the easiest formation to play with, in my opinion, as long as you have two fast WGs.

Mine is 3-2-1-2-1-1 - 3 CBs; 2 WBs; 1 DM; 2 CMs; 1 SS; 1 ST.

Loads of arrows too.

On PES5 I moved from 4-1-2-1-2 to 3-3-2-2. However, having been raped while using that formation this time around, I'm now playing 4-3-1-2 (with Italy) and am unlikely to play with Milan until an option file I'm happy with comes out.

The three central midfielders are quite narrow allowing the full-backs to raid down the wings with a tiny bit of cover if I'm hit on the counter.

Depends what team you are playing as.

I'm currently playing as Real Madrid in the Primera Liga. I use 4-2-1-2-1 A back four with the full-backs going forward when they can, two defensive midfielders, a central midfielder, two attacking players, and either Ruud or Ronaldo as the striker.

Does anybody know how to utilise the quick settings? ie; Side attack, balanced, counter attack, etc..

I find this the all around best formation and the most exciting to play with. Although i do like overly defensive formations sometimes, as it's harder to score and makes the flow of the match more realistic.

At the moment, mines a kind of 3-1-2-2-2, with 1 DM, a left and a right midfielder, two attacking midfielders and two centre forwards. This works well with Internazionale, raw power with skill and pace. As well as Materazzi & Vieira providing some continental beef.
