Whats with the AI SCRIPTED moments in ML? It was a little TOOOO obvious this time around....

I was 2-0 up against Liverpool in the 60' min, when a horrible blunder by the defense led gerrard to knock it in my goal, 2-1. Woo im about to win, 90 minute stoppage time, oh wait here comes liverpool full throttle, oh good I lbocked the shot... but then a series of really really odd blunders made the goalkeeper not catch a ball goign 1mpg hour.... and helping gerrard knock it in for the tie...

The keeper parried it into the center of the box where I had 2 defenders who were quite content to let Ibrahimovich (who happened to be outside the box when the keeper parried) have the ball and slot by my keeper who didn't even attempt to move, leave alone bend down and save it.

PES 2010 is like a girlfriend; sometimes absolutely jaw-droppingly (ahem, ahem) brilliant and other times unbelievably stupid.

things like this really throws off the gameplay . That has happened too many times to me. In Master League I had 6 losses total, about 4 of those were because of this horrible AI. it's like CMONNNNNNNNNNNNN

Personally I think the AI is so inept at times that they have to have these moments to try an keep it interesting. I have a theory that could be crap but if your playing online and your 1 nil up, even if your all over your opponent you will struggle to get a second but if they get just one shot up the other end - it will go in. Possibly just me being sh*te though.

Anyways , PES 2010 rocks. The feel of the game is beautiful thats for sure, I tried playing 2009... just cant do it.... I can score with Messi 10-0 .

You (the player) will always do smarter tactical choices, you will always be the more effective passer of the ball and you will always score more goals in such environment.

To counter this, the AI is able to cheat you by dribbling straight through one of your players and shoot more or less lame shots past your keeper on occation.

The more subletly this is implemented into the game the better ofcourse.

^True, but I guess Konami can make the AI cheat less and make them play better at the same time. I hate AI cheating. It's frustrating. But then again, as the above said, we will always outsmart the AI because we have the ability to think differently and the AI can't. Still I think they should lower the cheating, and make the AI smarter at the same time. But overall, a great improvement on pes 09 where the AI cheated all the time but they weren't half as smart as this year.

Well yes I understand that, but why make it so...obvious. It should be more subtle . Not " Oh yea!!! you are winning 2 - 0? WE"LL SEE ABOUT THAT!!!! TORRRES FULL POWER!! NOWWW!!!!"

1. When you do a tackle the computer conveniently gets the ball back - the player you tackled might as well have just done the perfect pass to his team mate as that's where the ball goes, and straight to feet.

2.when you're fouled in opponents box ref doesn't give penalties but for the same foul anywhere else on the field (that you commit) you get a yellow for.

3. your players turn soooooo slowly on the ball allowing opponents to tackle even if you're dribbling with someone fast like walcott and not someone rubbish like distin

4. slow opponent players catch up and push past you to tackle you as if by miracle (christiano ronaldo vs say makalele)

5. computer *nearly always* scores free kicks even if you have a brilliant keeper and the guy taking the free kick is John Mcrubbish

6. every pass you make goes directly to opposing team or goes to the wrong player in a bad position so the computer can get the ball back easily.

7. your defenders refuse to head the ball when in a brilliant position, allowing computer to score

8. when you tackle the computer the ball seems to bobble and then stick to that players feet defying physics.

9. your players refuse to shoot or pass when you tell them. For example you press the button to make sure they hit it first time and instead they take bad touches and allow defenders to close down making chances to score disappear

10. your defenders kicking the ball out when there's plenty of time to pass properly and you've told them not to kick it in that direction.

11. you can smell when the computer has decided it *will* score as all their players are crap and even though you close them down and give them no space they seem to be able to bustle past and push defenders out of the way in order to score.

Cheating is infuriating, this is what I wrote about it for pes2008.

i have not experienced the bad ai yet. ihave in previous games, but this game it seems a lot better, usally if i end up drawing its my fault to why the goals went in. although usually they cant tie cos its too late by then, they will usually get 2-1 or 3-2 so i still win
i hate one of those almost scripted games but other way round. i was man u and playing arsenal and playing at home. 1-0 and scored on the 75-80th minute to level things up and gain a point

Yeah its really annoying me too.

Started a ML using Liverpool (only got the game, so give me a break lol)

In the champs league, drew with Barca, and next up was FC Copenhagen.

I walked rings around them, but only managed to score once ('keeper pulled off amazing saves). Couple to that, every time I tackled them, the ref gave a free kick, yet every time I was blatantly knowcked off the ball, no free kick.

Then a few mins to go, and a serious of bizarre defensive blunders let them equalise. 1-1. I went back and tried to play against them 3 different times (there was no way I was not beating them). And each and every time, the same result.

Its so annoying that the AI can cheat so readily.

And its not that I'm bad at it, I had just beaten United, Arsenal & Everton in the league.

Oh, play Top Player too.

this honestly has never happened to me guys in any PES game.. i'm 2 seasons in my ML game with AS roma with a custom league (i play vs barca, chelsea, galatasaray, man city, etc). and i've won matches with 1-0 by scoring in 3 minutes and parking the bus for the rest of the match. i've also gone from 0-3 at half time to 3-3 full time. i play on superstar difficulty (i used an unlocker). so, i don't feel like theres any cheating going on here... maybe except for AI penalties, which we have no control of

theres no way to check if the gameplay AI actually cheats in PES bc you can't mod the AI file. but off topic, i know for a fact the AI does cheat in FIFA 08, 09, and 10 PC. there are parameters in their ai.ini file called "FLAMBOYANT_GOALIES" that makes opposition keepers ignore their basic stats and make them perfect goalies. there's also an entry "momentum enabled = 0 or 1". if you turn it to 1, then the AI cheats to make good comebacks. turn it to 0, and everything's normal and as is. the value is 1 by default...

just feel lucky PES doesn't pull shit like this. on the other hand, if PES allows AI modding, that would be better though...

anyway, the point is, i never had the AI suddenly "tick on" during any of my games. i'm not gonna post screenshots of all my games. but to my experience, i've never witnessed any AI inconsistency over 90 minutes. and i've never experienced an AI comeback, except the times i was sleepy, or drunk...

The AI "tick on" occurs in almost every single game at some point. Usually it ends once you regain possession but that can take a while. They'll often go from mundane and useless football to retaining possession perfectly. Fortunately the AI is usually too stupid to forge a proper goal scoring opportunity and you'll regain the ball in your final 3rd.
